Political Theater or Simply Criminal?

hate crime

As the Covington High School kids and the Smollet story continue to unravel, our own Veritas Omnia Vincit has penned a short essay on his findings on what could be seen as a reoccurring theme in race relations. This theme can be defined as “victim-hood chic” where racial accusations are immediately taken at face value and through the power of the media broadcast to the world unchecked, accepted and repeated by politicians, clebs and other talking heads, only to be later found a fraud. The silence afterwards is deafening. Here’s VoV:

Veritas Omnia Vincit
AW1Ed posted about Mr. Smollett already, I’m not looking to beat that horse anymore than we’ve already done here. However it has occurred to me that there’s been a few of these hoaxes in recent news and it seems a recurring theme for the Orange Man Bad crowd that hoaxes are now acceptable if they cast aspersions on Trump or his supporters. It matters not that they are using blatant lies to commit these crimes and create a palpable tension in the air between American citizens. I’ve also realized that I’ve not seen much in the way of prosecution of these hoax crimes, in several instances there has been an unwillingness to charge or prosecute these people.

So doing a little Google-Fu I’ve found the following random series of events….

Gay Organ Player vandalizes his own church in Indian with Heil Trump, Swastikas and homophobic slurs…charged with a misdemeanor.

Gay Black man vandalizes a Brooklyn Synagogue and sets some fires, turns out he worked with a city councilor on hate crime initiatives, he was charged with criminal mischief and committed to a psychiatric facility for observation…

Mississippi Church burned and Vote Trump written on the building, black parishioner of that church arrested for arson…..

Muslim student claims two white guys with Trump clothing beat her, took off her hijab, and robbed her…story went viral but also a lie, student never identified by the media after hoax was revealed and no word on any charges….

The list goes on and on, (thanks to Andy Ngo for compiling a huge list, of which I’ve taken very few samples for this essay) you can find his list here: https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1097020092791934976

So what are we to make of all this? My take is that the Orange Man Bad crowd has become so angry about losing the election they will tell any lie, commit any act, and incite all manner of violence to strike out at those responsible for electing Trump. Even worse the crowd of Democrat jagoffs in Hollywood will jump at any of these stories making outlandish claims about Trump stories without even taking a breath to consider if the story they are so angry about is even true.

For me this speaks directly to a lack of honesty about who the real villains are in all of this, those villains being the anti-Trump crowd that lionizes the “resistance” movement by rewarding those who speak out against the president. They create an environment where telling criminal lies and committing criminal acts becomes a potential road to celebrity status and acclaim. It started with that whiny speech from Meryl Streep bemoaning her tough lot in life as a millionaire actor, she spoke the only words she could speak to the Hollywood crowd that were acceptable to that group of people and they all clapped and commended her for being brave. Brave? Is it really brave when the minister preaches to the choir, is there anything hard in preaching to the only crowd that will always support your like minded viewpoint?

This is why we are here now, because people like Streep think it’s brave to speak out against the president. As if the United States stopped being the United States on Trump’s inauguration. Since his inauguration the evidence directly contradicts Ms. Streep and company…a despot doesn’t leave an investigation into his actions running for two years, a despot doesn’t create the best working conditions and employment levels for the very people he’s supposed to hate with all his heart and soul as a Nazi Racist. A despot doesn’t make everything about the economy better without arresting the opposition and sending them off for execution or re-education. If Trump is supposed to be a racist despot he’s not very good at it.

With our national worship of celebrity it’s no wonder the mentally unstable or those on the edges of celebrity would commit a crime to achieve some level of celebrity recognition, and the instant gratification of supportive tweets from celebrity twits must be truly heady stuff for those unstable souls.

These people are simply criminal, there is no theater at all not even of the absurd. The end result of that is of course the politicians who are now catering to that crowd of Trump haters, all of whom are raising the nature of histrionic dialogue to record levels.

As I’ve said before, the next couple of years are gonna be real interesting folks. Here’s hoping you’re all appropriately geared up.

That’s all for now,
VoV

Thanks, V. Timely and spot on.

Oh, I’m geared up. I’m geared up, all right.

I’ll start with a faded baseball cap with Door Gunner or something blazoned on it, and kind of go from there.

I get the impression that this “movement of hatred” is starting to lose steam. The majority of people who might side with them seem to be slipping away because they are busy, they have family to take care of, they have to work, they have more important things to do than to listen to the same old-same old whining complaints.

The fanaticism that accompanies a new/pseudo-religion has to have something behind it to keep going, or people will drift away. And the worst howlers about Trump are running out of same-old/same-old stuff and are now turning to just plain hate, and then repeatedly exposed for their ignorance and mendacity.

Truth always trumps hogwash and lies. This isn’t the McCarthy era when the newspapers did control what got printed. The gloves are off, and the media mavens are repeatedly being caught with their pants down. The Covington stuff was the best, most recent example. Then they were proven to be completely wrong, and now it will cost them, in the case of WaPo everything.

Keep your eyes and ears open and your talcum powder dry. You know what it’s like when you step in it and it’s someone else’s puddle of puppy potty.

rgr769

Naw, the “Juicy” Jussie hate hoax is the best and most recent example. There was something real that actually happened with the Covington boys; it wasn’t a scripted farce hatched in the mind of a B-list actor in a TV show most of the MAGA “biggots” never watched. It is obvious why Smollet was an actor and not a script writer. There is a reason Smollet rhymes with pullet.

Funny that the ones who seem to always be ones who stir up all this turmoil are the ones who have never read their history. The biggest driving force always seems to be a race issue and then the first thing that raises it’s head is the past history of slavery. It has been fully documented in the annuls of history that the first property owner of a slave in this country was Anthony Johnson and as slaves became more of a way of life more of Anthony Johnson’s race also became slave owners, Anthony Johnson was as it says in the quote a “Black Angolan and as time progressed more of the present known “African Americans” also became slave owners. Us non African Americans were not the only guilty ones, heck my ancestors came to the USA after the Civil War after being driven out of Germany and Russia, entered thru Ellis Island (Gitmo in New York Harbor). What is somewhat funny to me is that when they moved across the country they were banned from many cities and had to have their own towns also. Even worse is that in The 50’s when African Americans were allowed to live in city’s that were formally predominantly white with slaves and other city’s in the north. Out here in the center of the country in a small town I grew up in Hispanic Americans were barred from living inside city limits and had to be out of town by 6pm and not back until probably 6am.

Good add on Outcast. You gave more accurate info on the history of the slave trade in American than any young’un sees in history class. And between Ex’s and VoV’s post you’ve got civics and journalism. The whole race baiting is being done at a much higher level than day to day people. Keep ’em stirred up and hating on each other or something else, the sheeple won’t notice that we have royally screwed everybody. So many have made a nice living for themselves stirring up crap that it has become a way of life. College degrees are based on “race relations”, community organizing, the list goes on.

My ancestors have been here for hundreds of years, and yes 1 gggggrandpappy did some begetting with a Native girl. We owned no slaves and after the FIRST generation weren’t indentured at all either. I owe no one, and no one owes me any repatriations or apologies.

5000 years ago Moses told his people to load up their camels, pack up their ass and I’ll lead you to the promised land. FDR and more so, LBJ told a certain group of people to throw down their shovel, light up a Camel, sit on your ass, this is the promised land.

I say, get off your ass, stub out your Camel, pick up a shovel, this land ain’t promised you crap. Get a haircut and get a real job. Our widowed Mama raised 6 of us by herself, with the same ethics without food stamps, aid to dependant children, public housing or any of the other freebies that she could have qualified for.

I have seen “reverse discrimination” FIRST hand myself. These race baiters and the news media/hollywooders can kiss my white ass.

The left is completely off their rocker that Americans weren’t ready to jump at the chance to elect Satan herself. It was her TURN! Anyone who disagrees with them is automatically evil and not worth living.

There were quotes today from Nicolás Maduro using the same exact language as American Democrats. When your platform is echoed by a brutal socialist dictator, you’re on the wrong side.

When CNN (and the rest of the MSM for that matter) is giving better press to an actual ISIS terrorist that wants to come home than it did to a 16 year old kid, you’re on the wrong side.

When your party is run most vocally by people who want to overthrow capitalism, you’re on the wrong side.

When your party has openly become the party of infanticide, anti-semitism, and black face, you’re on the wrong side. I mean at least they used to keep that all on the DL.

rgr769

I should like to add that the term “capitalism” was created or exploited by Karl Marx. We have a free enterprise system. One does not have to be a multi-millionaire to start a business, so the term “capitalism” has a political construct that has no relevance to the real world. I could start and operate a small business with a few tens of thousands of dollars of start up money; I could even start a business with less than $10K.

Thunderstixx

In my case over the years, sometimes less than a grand can get you going.
I designed wheelchairs and started that business with about $800.00.
It lasted for many years and gave me a good living.
America is not a place for lazy fucks, the amount of energy expended by an American in one day can outshine pretty much any other individual across the world.
When I was young, it was nothing to put in a 16-18 hour day, go to bed then get up at 0400 and start all over again !!!
Maybe that’s why I’m so tired now…

Ncat

Well said. Capitalism isn’t a designed, philosophical system like socialism, which must be enforced from the top. The trade of individuals’ labor is simply what happens in both primitive and advanced societies when you leave people the hell alone.

Ncat

I genuinely hope the left keeps it coming. I’m fact, I hope they double down. I don’t love Trump the person, but I’ve found the Trump presidency magnificent.

They will get him reelected if they keep this up. The arrogance, preachiness and stupidity of the libtards is what vaulted him to the oval office in the first place.

(That and Republicans’ failure to do what they were elected to do)

The worst thing that has happened in the not so distant past is the assassination of three people who would have led this country to a higher level, in their place has arisen those Idealists who’s agenda is against anything those three did and spend every day trying to destroy their legacy. We lost JFK, RFK, MLK and in their place we got JJ, AS, AOC, NP, and most of the rest of the Dumbocrats. It is still my belief that there was a higher conspiracy in the higher ups that devised the assassinations and a cover up was in place long before the actual events as well as fall guy’s in place. We may never know the real truth as those involved have probably passed for the most part and the rest sit and marvel at the world they started and are continuing to create with their wealth spent in the right places. A clue as to my thoughts of the future is that if there are any more FBI agents that were involved in the Clinton mess, they will also suffer the same fate as two already have and the money men will continue pulling strings.

5jc

Y’all act like you are susprised that people who lie to themselves all the time lie to other people too. That media with an agenda will consume and repeat lies wholesale. This is hardly new behavior. It is older than any of us here.

A Proud Infidel®™

IMHO it’s even further proof that the liberal mainstream mess media is every bit as much of a whorehouse as the vast majority of Washington DC as well as being a dedicated propaganda arm of the DNC!

LC

However it has occurred to me that there’s been a few of these hoaxes in recent news and it seems a recurring theme for the Orange Man Bad crowd that hoaxes are now acceptable if they cast aspersions on Trump or his supporters.

For a slightly different take, human nature always makes us look for fault in those we oppose and let slide things in those we support. Hoaxes are now acceptable? What about the hoax about Obama’s birth certificate, which was embraced widely by conservative media? The Seth Rich was murdered by Clinton thing? How school shootings are fake, created by ‘crisis actors’?

Casting aspersions on the other side is not new, nor limited to the liberal side of the spectrum. This being a more conservative site, the focus on the liberal hoaxes gets more push, obviously.

I certainly hope, if found guilty, Smollett spends lots of time in prison. People who do shit like this are pathetic. But I wonder how many here want those pushing politically-motivated hoaxes on the right to also face consequences? Do we stand on principle or on party?

I’d also add that the ‘law of large numbers’ is a big factor in all of this – we’ve got 320M people in this country. If 0.00016% of them are crazy enough to make shit like this up (less than 1 in every 600K), we have enough to have one per week for the next ten years. I don’t think this is a new problem, I think the only new thing is we’re so polarized that we do things like track down Twitter threads that collect incidents like this to justify positions, on both sides.

That’s human nature, too, but I go back to principle vs. party – we need to holds people accountable to the truth, and their actions, on principle. Not party.

Fyrfighter

LC, I do agree with some of what you said in this post, but a couple of things.
.”What about the hoax about Obama’s birth certificate, which was embraced widely by conservative media?” Obama did nothing to minimize that situation, by initially refusing to release it, and then the fact that on college and scholarship paperwork, listed himself as a foreign student (fraud by most any definition). Both of these things lent credence to the idea (not that it would have mattered, his mother was a citizen, and as such, so was he, no matter where he was born)
“The Seth Rich was murdered by Clinton thing?” quite a few people that have crossed the clintons have ended up dead under very suspicious circumstances, so this is not a completely crazy idea, and as with the email server, the foundation, etc, investigations into things surrounding them are rarely in-depth or complete.
“How school shootings are fake, created by ‘crisis actors’?” this is one that only nut-jobs ever subscribed to, along the lines of the 9/11 “truthers” (may they rot in hell), this one was never adopted by mainstream conservatives.

“Do we stand on principle or on party?” On another blog, I saw this “A recent Monmouth University poll showed a majority of Democratic and Democratic-leaning independent voters of all ages prioritize the ability to win the general election over ideology in a 2020 nominee” which seems to answer your question quite succinctly, though probably not in the direction you hoped, nor in one that is good for the country..

LC

I’ve been busy so this reply is late and may get lost in the shuffle, but I think this illustrates the problem pretty well – Obama did not list himself as a foreign student on his college paperwork. It was an April Fool’s day post that people who wanted to believe the worst in him accepted without critical examination. Yet, it persists.

And that’s the problem – both sides have a very skewed notion of what is likely. Consider three statements I could make today:

1) Obama recently joined an Islamic community in secret
2) Trump secretly owns stock in the company building the wall so he can profit off of it
3) Mueller is a member of the Illuminati

Now, there’s zero evidence for any of those – I just made them all up. But my guess is conservatives would believe #1 more than liberals, liberals would believe #2 more than conservatives, and, thankfully, only the crazies would believe #3. But all of these are made up – we all have intrinsic biases that make us want to believe bad things about the side we oppose. But we owe it to ourselves, and our country, to be a bit more concerned with the truth than the politics.

As for the Monmouth poll, I’d love to see more – I can easily see that being a case of where the wording is critically important. Eg, there’s a big difference between, “Are you happy to give up on liberal ideology to win in 2020?” and “If compromising on things like the Green New Deal or Medicare For All would help the Democrats chances in 2020, would you accept that?”. And the flip side to this is that there are polls on countless things like, “Do you support US bombings in Syria?” and “Does the moral character of the President matter?” where Democratic numbers haven’t shifted much in the past ten years, but conservatives have down 180s.

And since I’m not a Democrat or a Republican, I’m against either side putting politics ahead of principles. It’s why I’m an independent.

He wrote in his autobiography that he was born in Kenya. You know if I were writing an autobiography I’d try to at least get where I was born right. But whatevers.

Mason

And his wife, when in Kenya, referred to it as his “home country”. Sounds legit.

LC

I know plenty of Americans of Irish descent who refer to Ireland as the ‘homeland’. Are they no longer Americans?

LC

Once again, this proves the point – go on, and find me where in his biography he says this. I’ll wait.

The answer is: he doesn’t. A blurb written by a publisher, for pre-publication, probably without having read the biography itself, mentioned that. It was corrected. It also, as others have pointed out, wouldn’t have mattered given his mother was American.

Poetrooper

Nice of you, Ed, to be so generously inclusive, but I have a bit of a problem with LC’s rationalizing. His comparison of some support by some of the much smaller, mostly online, conservative media to the lemming-like race-to-the-cliff by the huge mainstream media establishment, controlling all television news distribution to America, with the exception of FOX, simply doesn’t hold water.

That’s akin to matching the US Army against the Costa Rican Army (Yeah, that’s right– they don’t have one–my point) and invalid because it’s such a lopsided argument. LC is smart enough to know that but he simply can’t resist poking his finger in some eyes here. I’ve always called his personality type the “Yeah, butter’s,” because no matter how solid a case you make for your position, no matter how valid, even overwhelming, your evidence, the LC’s of the world always respond with,

“Yeah, but…”

I know the type well–my father was one and my younger brother got that particular gene as well.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Whataboutisms…yeah, but whatabout your guy did this?

A lot of us are guilty at times.

I took LCs response at face value, meaning he wanted to know if I really believed that hoaxes are now acceptable to the general public.

In some ways I think the left has shown a willingness to accept at face value stories like this without evidence. That until the lie is proven all manner of outrageous behavior is considered to have actually happened because Trump. As Andy Ngo’s list shows many of those involved in the hoaxes weren’t even charged or were charged with simple civil penalties instead of larger criminal acts.

When the Obama birth certificate horseshit started it was Trump and the other fringe weirdoes who were pushing it. It wasn’t Wolf Blitzer or David Muir which is the difference with these lefty hoaxes. Major news agencies report them as fact until they are proven lies then a retraction and move on to the next phase of the Mueller investigation. When that investigation concludes I wonder what CNN will spend it’s 4 hours of primetime opinion talking about.

LC

I always appreciate your measured responses, VOV. I will, however, reiterate a point you’ve made before, and I’ve tried to make here – our biases make us focus on the other side, and turn a blind eye towards our own’s shortcomings.

In my reply to Fyrfighter above, I laid out three made-up sentences, and stated how I felt each side would be willing to believe, or disbelieve, each one to a different degree, based on that bias. So yes, the Left does have a bias to naturally believing something like the Smollett case when they first hear about it. Consider for a moment someone dislikes the MAGA crowd, knows via FBI data that hate crimes are on the rise, and hears from someone else that a black, gay actor was beaten up by two people in MAGA hats. Is that so hard to believe? Of course not. It’s only when additional data comes in that things start to look suspect.

But just in case, here’s a different example – let’s say a conservative hears from a friend that a guy in Texas wrote ‘Police Lives Matter’ on the back of his truck, and a bunch of Black Lives Matter people were so offended that they spray-painted it, keyed it, and basically cost him $6K in repairs. My guess is most conservatives would believe that at first, too. The catch? This happened, except he did it to his own truck and blamed BLM. [1]

My point, again, is that our great country is in jeopardy when we put party over truth. And both sides fervently believe that the lies on their side are few, and the other side are legion, so they excuse the ones on their own. But it does happen on both, and we need to be vigilant and apolitical about the truth.

LC

“Yeah, but…”

Except there’s a world of difference between saying, “Well, the other side does it, so it’s okay when my side does…” and “There’s too much lying on both sides and we, as Americans, need to hold ourselves to a higher standard and not tolerate that!”.

One excuses the actions, the other says we need to be proactive in fighting it.

OWB

There will always, in a free society, be those with whom any one of us will agree and, conversely, those with whom we disagree. Were that not so, we would not be a free society. However, when folks want to kill those with whom they disagree, we certainly can no longer call ourselves a healthy society.

Some of us (I refuse to believe that I am alone in this) see that this systematic killing of truth is the sign of a society at least in decline if not worse. When your position, be it political or otherwise, is more important than truth and/or freedom, our societal equilibrium is out of whack.

Some of us were raised by people who valued truth above nearly all else. We were taught that if your cause has value, there is no reason to lie about it. If you need to lie, your position is not defensible and you had better find a new cause.

So, yes, LC, there are plenty of us out here in TAH land who value the truth no matter who speaks it. We are likely the same folks who don’t give a flip who raised you, how old you are, if you have religious affiliation, or any other characteristic which other people are telling us should be our first, perhaps only, consideration when deciding whether your opinion is or is not important.

Your apparent desire to find the truth, LC, is why you get along around here while others do not. I sometimes find your conclusions somewhat naïve, but you continue to demonstrate a system of research and logic which is no more flawed than most of the rest of us here.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

OWB, your comment reminded me of another of my favorite founder’s quotes….

It is error alone that requires the support of the government, the truth can stand on its own

Veritas Omnia Vincit

LC, why I made that comment is quite simple. When contrasted to the general reaction to the Obama birth certificate concerns the Smollett incident shows just how willing the media and the celebrity left are to believe anything written against Trump. No one I know believed the Obama birth certificate nonsense and even if he was born in a foreign land his mom, being an American citizen, makes the place of his birth irrelevant. I’ve always given credit to Obama for standing up in support of McCain when the same thing was said about McCain being born in the canal zone thus not being a natural born citizen. Many people openly criticized those promoting the birth certificate nonsense. The Alex Jones crowd notwithstanding there were very few people besides the Orange Man who were proponents of the stupid birth certificate concerns. Now think honestly about Jussie Smollett’s story for a single moment. Prior to this incident I had no idea who he was, granted I’m not the target demographic for the show Empire, but I suspect neither are most white racists. But now I’m supposed to believe that two white racists not only know a D-list mediocre actor but that they also know that he’s gay, that he frequents a certain club and then they plan to carry bleach and a rope to attack him at 2am? Then we’re supposed to believe these two big white men were frightened away by a gay black guy half their size? That story smelled worse than a dead chicken stuffed up a skunk’s ass from day one. But every asshole celebrity in Hollywood went right to twitter just like they did with the Covington kids. The idiotic, patronizing bullshit from that crowd is still on display because the internet is forever. When the Obama birth certificate nonsense came around responsible celebrities and conservatives alike said nothing publicly. Notable exceptions being clowns like Alex Jones, and our current president who has never been known for being able to shut the fuck up for five minutes and wait for the truth. However the vast majority… Read more »

I was gonna say the exact same thing, but less eloquently. These racist hate crime hoaxes are far more damaging because of how the media just runs with them. Then when they come out as a hoax, there’s a small “correction” or “retraction” and they go about their business, onto the next crisis.

BlueCord Dad

VOV, great point. I read somewhere(it might even have been here) that when one of these “crimes” occur you should wait 48 hrs before opening your pie hole in comment. Our “betters” should take note

ArmyATC

Methinks someone doesn’t understand the difference between a conspiracy theory and a hoax.

Fyrfighter summed up the differences between your cited conspiracy theories and the hoaxes we’re talking about.

A few things have been overlooked. First is a media complicit in spreading the hoaxes. The conspiracy theories you mentioned were never taken seriously by the media. They were looked at and reported as the idiotic ramblings of those with little intelligence. The hoaxes, on the other hand, were treated as breaking news and gospel with media talking heads and Democrat politicians jumping on the bandwagon to denounce the students’ deplorable behavior. Not once did anyone in the media or Democrat politics take a step back to ask if the alleged “hate crimes” actually happened or to wait for further evidence. They treated the stories as if they were true, excoriating children for something they didn’t do. Conversely, they ignored or glossed over the actual racism and threats the students were subjected to by the “Black Hebrew Israelites.” Second, there’s a huge difference in the level of danger present in the conspiracy theories and the hoaxes. The hoaxes were meant to either selfishly draw attention to the person reporting it, or more ominously, to whip people up into a frenzy and to push an ideological cause or idea. That’s dangerous. We can see how dangerous in the case of the Covington High School students who received death threats over a lie. Children actually received death threats and had to be moved to different locations to ensure their safety. And while the hatred for those children was widespread, the apologies have been few and far between once the lie was discovered.

Poetrooper

And LC conveniently forgets that some of these racist hoaxers have actually tried to railroad innocent whites into prison with their lies, frequently aided by too-eager police and prosecutors.

Yeah, that’s no different than questioning Obama’s birth certificate is it, LC?

Smollett is only being charged with disorderly conduct.

Fyrfighter

David, latest reports have him being charged with that, and felony false reporting… and I believe the feds are still looking into the letter with white powder (crushed aspirin) that was sent to him at the TV studio, and one report has a magazine with the letters cut out being confiscated from the apartment of the Nigerian brothers (that one is not confirmed, but if true, pretty damning), and if they do have / find evidence of that and charge him, that’s a big federal felony, that will likely leave a mark..

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Yes, I believe you’re right about the feds still looking at the letter that included white powder.

True, but I believe it’s Felony Disorderly Conduct. That doesn’t mean it won’t be plead down- it probably will be. I’m thinking he’ll get a fine and then go on a “racist Chicago cops set me and my Nigerians up” tour.

There are already people on the left who are pushing that narrative. Again, I say keep it coming.

He’s probably the most reasonable, and smartest, guy in Chicago. Glad he has the common sense that he does.

No, despite what some people are inferring elsewhere, Smollet won’t get out of this – ever.

Mason

Which is why he’ll be fired by the end of the month. LOL

rgr769

I am still betting he never does a day in jail, unless he is prosecuted federally for his white powder fake hate letter sent through the US Mail.

OWB

Heard him interviewed this morning. His tone of voice made it quite obvious that the words he was saying were exactly what he meant to say and that this will NOT go away.

What a guy – looking out for real victims of crime. He is absolutely right. It is refreshing to hear someone in a position to do something about it articulate the true cost of false reporting, hoaxes, and all that.

AnotherPat

Thumbs Up and Kudos to Ex-PH2 and OWB on their comments.

They both nailed it.

A heartful Thank You to both of you.

Poetrooper

Well I hate to be the proverbial turd in the punch bowl, but if you read Chicago cop websites, he’s known as Special Ed, as in education. Insiders were predicting Ed would sweep this under the rug.

So before we become too effusive in our praise, I think we’d be wise to follow the political crumbs to see where they lead through the murky swamp of Chicago and Democrat (perhaps even presidential) politics.

OWB

Uhmmm, Poe? I will continue to heap praise upon folks when they do something praiseworthy. Nowhere did I suggest that I am putting this man forth for sainthood. Just calling it good work when that is what I see.

Now, if it turns out that he was lying and/or I misinterpreted his statement, I will have no problem calling that out for what it is either. I don’t know the man’s politics nor do I care. (It’s Chicago – most likely he’s a dem, of course, but I don’t really care.) When you do the right thing, the letter behind your name matters not a whit to me.

The other real possibility is that it will not be swept under the rug because the CPD has been made to look like fools. Cop egos tend not to like that at all.

Poetrooper

OWB, my comment was not meant as a criticism of you guys but rather pointing out the possibility that this being Chicago, all is not likely what it appears to be. The chief wasn’t lying nor did you misinterpret his words. What you ARE doing is ignoring the reality that the chief isn’t calling the shots here–the mayor and the aldermen are–and that, OWB, happens to be the Chicago Democrat machine which coordinates closely with the national Democrat leadership.

So I do think you are giving them far too much credit for doing the right thing morally when a political motive is far more likely. You can bet that in a machine-ruled city like Chicago, politics is the FIRST consideration in EVERY situation because Chicago happens to be the textbook example for machine politics.

So please excuse this cynical old man if he just happens to be a tad less impressed by Special Ed’s performance than others here. Ed’s a skilled Democrat politician, which is how he got the top job–and why his own force mocks him.

OWB

Be as cynical as you wish to be. Your choice.

The political realities of Chicago don’t much matter to me as it relates to commenting that one individual done good in this one instance.

It’s not as if the political party you often praise is blameless in the current national mess we live in. The DNC could not have driven us here without the RNC helping to buy the gas.

Poetrooper

OWB, one thing you have never heard me claim is that the Republicans are blameless. And while I am a Trump supporter, as I have stated here plenty of times, that support is definitely qualified. And there are many Republican politicians that I can’t stand so don’t try to paint me with that broad brush.

As for your could-care- less attitude about Chicago politics, that’s a bit difficult to understand since it was that Chicago Democrat machine that forced Barack Obama on this country. I assume you cared about that.

Look, I’ve already said I wasn’t faulting you guys, just pointing out some realities you might not have considered. I’m sorry if that ticked you off, OK?

OWB

My not caring is simply in relation to that one moment in time. The man done good. I just don’t care if in an earlier life he supported the zero. That has nothing to do with this.

For those of us looking for glimmers of hope, even very small slices of them, things like this support our view that there is common ground even the most politically opposed persons can find if they look for it. Agreeing on something is always a good place to start any negotiation.

rgr769

“Its Chicago–most likely he’s
a dem.” Are you kidding, I don’t think one could get elected as an assistant dog-catcher in Shotcago without being a registered D-rat. And even if he is appointed as the chief of the popo, he would have to have plenty of D-rat chops to get the job.

Out of curiosity, went to CNN to see how they reported the Smollett case and found this analysis by the CNN Editor-At-Large.

You Be The Judge:

“Why Our Politics Can’t Handle Jussie Smollett”

Pat, Cilliza’s argument is the same as LC’s, moral equivalence: Both sides do it–while ignoring the huge imbalance between the two sides and the reality that the left has an overwhelming media advantage. He also ignores the reality that the Left are the ones with egg on their faces–this time and every time they pounce so eagerly on these racial hoaxes.

akpual

He also seems to think people like myself will forget about this by 2020, I won’t.

So true.

Thank you for your feedback and insight on the article, Poe. Also on your comment on Superindent Johnson. I still applaud him for what he said this morning.

I have heard so many on the left, with not just this issue but others, when confronted with a lie/hoax, proclaim:

“It doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t take away from the truth that this country is in trouble under the Trump presidency… blah, blah, blah.”

or “There is an undercurrent of racism that exists in this country… blah, blah, blah.”

No expression of relief that the story isn’t true, just an opportunity to spout OMB talking points.

rgr769

The LA Slimes is putting out the argument that Juicy’s fake but true crimes do not detract from the fact of the epidemic of racially motivated hate crimes which have spiked since Orange Man Bad became President.

Here’s another site that had done rather well capturing a bunch of Smollet-ish fabrications:

I remember some of those, I wonder what kind of self-victimization scam we’ll see next?

I JUST HEARD RUMOR that Jussie fooled so many people that CNN is contemplating hiring him as a Reporter!

OWB

Now THAT is funny, right there!

IMHO, this guy got it right (and it’s his opinion as well):

“In Jussie Smollett Case, Chicago Police Showed Us The Right Way To Behave”

Yes, and it only took about 25 cops and three weeks to crack this who-dunnit of a mystery. And as I predicted over a week ago, Jussie will never spend a night in jail. He was released on a $100K bail this afternoon, after spending the morning with the CPD. I’ll bet they didn’t even put him in a cell. And now the honcho of the CPD is saying all he wants is an apology from this phony asswipe and a check for what the City says they spent on the investigation, which will likely be nothing but the overtime paid out to detectives. After all, the City would have had to pay their salaries even if they weren’t working on Juicy’s fake case. Plus, you could argue they would have run up the same overtime investigating those 30 plus murders committed so far this year in Chiraq.

(1) Smollett may still face Federal charges for mail fraud.

(2) Who knows what the outcome of his trial will be on his fiasco. He may indeed be sentenced to serve time in the Cook County jail. Time will tell.

(3) He also may face time in prison for the mail fraud. Time will tell.

(4) Smollett got his 15 minutes of fame…and will evidentually be remembered in Wikapedia under “Hate Crime Hoax”. Someone will come up with a saying such as “He smollett that royally”..or “Juss Do It”…

(5) A college course will be taught about how NOT to committ a Hate Crime Hoax, 101Smollett or in Journalism, 101Jussie.😉

Thank you for your feedback, rgr769. If we all thought alike, TAH would be a boring Blog.

If Jussie’s case ever goes to trial it will only be because media whore Mark Geragos wants some more TV time. This defendant will be offered a plea deal on the state charges which will not require any jail time. After all, he was the only victim of his crime. Who will make the victim statement at his sentencing? Juicy himself? He will give a tearful speech about how he was driven to do it because of “institutional racism, police brutality against blacks,” and of course all the evilness of Orange Man Bad. The federal charges are the wild card because they have mandatory minimum sentences. However, someone has already observed you can’t be convicted of making a terroristic threat to yourself. I also think there has to be a victim of federal mail fraud charges. Who was defrauded by him? One of the essential elements of fraud is detrimental reliance on the misrepresentation. No victim relied on the statements in the letter to his or her legal detriment. Maybe inclusion of the Tylenol powder may satisfy the elements of some crime.

AnotherPat

Don’t think Ted Kennedy spent any time in jail…and look what HE did…

Bergdahl did not get prison time…

OJ is now a free man…

Hope Smollett does spend some time behind bars…we shall see.

Daisy Cutter

He’ll check himself into therapy and claim he is seeking help for some yet to be named condition. In other words, he was a victim and it is not his fault.
