Midweek Open Thread

Meme from r/The_Donald. Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder.
In early 2017, a certain Berkeley Graduate tried to “put us in a box”, based on studies he saw on conservatives. A Proud Infidel®™ responded with some terms for said graduate: Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (TARD); Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder Operative (TARDO); and then there’s the Really Exceptional Trump Acceptance Resistance Disorder (RETARD). I found a meme to go with this definition, posted above.
Happy Hump Day TAH! Here’s your midweek open thread.

Heh. Where ya been, thebesig?
Present.
If it ain’t said, it won’t be written. FIRST!
Top 5
Just passing thru, y’all have a good time.
Firbteenth, and proud of it. Trying to rain and snow at the same time in my kingdom.
Present and nice meme, I think it fits TARDOs to a “T”!
Any new railroad stuff, API??
A little bit of news from Cheyenne about the UP4014 “Big Boy”. As of 29 January, she is all back together and is currently undergoing hydrostatic testing on the boiler.
Maybe out running in time for this years summer excursion season, but for right now, it’s wait and see.
UPRR’s goal is to have “Big Boy” #4014 operational in time for the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the driving of the Golden Spike. on a shakedown run after UP Challenger 3985 was rebuilt, she pulled a 160+ car Intermodal train unassisted. Challenger 3985 is a 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement while Big Boy 4014 is a 4-8-8-4, the biggest Steam Locomotive ever mass produced!
Well, then the fellers in Cheyenne better get to humping. May 10, 2019 is only 80 days away./smile
Sweet. I remember SP 4449 as the Freedom Train and it is a monster but still smaller than UP 4014.
I know what you mean, I saw her in Topeka KS on the 1976 Freedom Train, my parents almost had to pry me away with a crowbar! SP 4449 is a 4-8-4 wheel arrangement meaning it has a four wheel pony truck, eight driving wheels and a four wheel trailing truck below the cab and firebox. UP Big Boy 4014 has two sets of eight driving wheels, Challenger 3985 with two sets of six!
Just go to YouTube and type “Virtual Railfan Live Feed” in the search window and you’ll get a whole menu of live railcams, La Plata MO is still my personal favorite!
And my personal favorite of the Rail Cams is the Mierlo-Hout cam in Holland. Been going there every day to see if they had gotten any snow yet. None so far for the whole winter. Temps have been running in the 40s to 50s range with a few spots of rain now and then. Easy winter in that part of Europe.
I still like watching that cam from time to time, some people swear that is THE busiest Railroad Crossing in Europe!
Hey! I should have known I’d find some train fans on here! I sure hope these guys succeed with their project. A replica of a Pennsylvania Railroad 4-4-4-4 T1 Duplex streamliner (https://prrt1steamlocomotivetrust.org). The parts colored green on the diagram are what they have completed and the parts in yellow are currently on order. They are looking to beat Mallard’s speed record.
I wouldn’t doubt that a live T1 could do that as well as a 4-4-2 Atlantic type I saw in Greenfield Village, that machine has 88″ driving wheels making triple digit speeds a breeze!
Sheldon Cooper would be so proud. Anybody made it to the Bailey Yard in Nebraska? On my bucket list. Killer museum and the largest train yard in the world.
Bailey Yard is on my bucket list as well. As far as Railroad Museums, I highly recommend Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga as well as The National Museum of Transport in Kirkwood, MO!
Speaking of railcams, La Plata Mo has been busy today, enjoy!
Anyone here ever read the “Brotherhood of War” series by W.E.B Griffin?
“Griffin” past away last week:
“Prolific Historic Fiction Writer and Alabama Resident W.E.B. Griffin Dead at 89”
https://www.al.com/life/2019/02/prolific-historic-fiction-writer-and-alabama-resident-web-griffin-dead-at-89.html
I know there have been critics of Mr. Butterworth and his works. But that’s ok. We all are entitled to our own opinion. I enjoyed (and still do) reading the Brotherhood series as well as his other books on the Military. Will oneday sit down and read his series on the folks in Blue.
I read the Brotherhood series a couple of times. Met a few people that bitched about Craig Lowell being able to do all that and blah blah blah… It’s FICTION written around history, not a biography you dumbasses! Loved his writing, he will be missed.
I read “The Corps” series years ago. Quite a bit of history in the first books on the China Marines, Yangtze River Patrol, the Shanghai International Zone, and other elements that made up the land of adventure, mystery, and misery that was pre-war China.
How dahell did I miss this? One of my all time favorite historically accurate fiction writers. Have read a lot of his stuff, and for sure the entire Brotherhood of War Series, most of The Corps and pieces and parts of the rest. One thing I noticed on his BoW series, is he based a lot of it on his personal experiences and/or people he served with. Think his accuracy style had a lot of influence on Clancey. Don’t know what made Clancey want to be so wordy.
RIP Bill.
ps. I Liked (+_+) the accurate depiction of the TARDO.
So thus any time you see a bunch of screeching moonbat libs, you can just blow them off thinking something like “Meh, just a bunch of TARDOs…”
Liked his books but it seemed every new book was 1/4 new and 3/4 repetition of previous books in the series. Gave up on him 20 years ago.
According to Stephen Coonts, he used to write as William E. Butterworth but libraries balked at loading up on his many books. So he changed his pen name to the familiar W.E.B. Griffin.
Also write kids books, and publishers don’t want “adult” theme stuff under the same name as parents can get twitchy.
The Brotherhood of War and The Corps series were my favorites. Some of the greatest military historical fiction ever written IMHO. Griffin’s real name was William Edmund Butterworth III and he was an Army veteran. He humbly described his service as: “My own military background is wholly undistinguished. I was a sergeant. What happened was that I was incredibly lucky in getting to be around some truly distinguished senior officers, sergeants, and spooks.”
My only complaint is that he evidently got tired of writing them before I got tired of reading them. That seems to happen to a lot of authors of a series.
Spending my tax return money on home & vehicle improvements, hoping to have some ammo money left over.
Also starting on that “Red Dawn” project (hopefully my modified M60A1 does you TAH tankers proud), as well as a couple of others. Just bought an airbrush for that.
And just to make things interesting, my water heater took a shit in the midst of a snowstorm the other day, I found repair to be beyond my limited skills, another snowstorm is rolling in this afternoon, and the water heater guy won’t be available until tomorrow. Cold showers are so much fun!
I didn’t realize it snowed where you are, TOW. Up here, it’s either been low 20’s at night and dry, or above freezing and rainy.
Also, has Xavier Becerra sued Donald Trump about your water heater yet?
I live in the mountains, so snow happens every year. It usually only sticks for a few days at a time, long enough for the goddamn biblical plague of flatlanders to show up and make a nuisance of themselves.
As for Becerra, he’s too busy following in Kamala “Will Suck Dick For Political Advancement” Harris’s footsteps trying to nose his way into my gun safe.

“Museum Officials: Vandals Try To Burn a Confederate Statue, But It Was the Wrong General Lee”
“Vandels Attack Gen. William C. Lee Statue”
“Vandals Tried To Burn a Confederate statue in NC — But It Was the Wrong General Lee”:
https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article226506060.html
http://mydailyrecord.com/stories/vandals-attack-gen-william-c-lee-statue,45472
“A marble statue memorializing the founder of the U.S. Army Airborne was set on fire Thursday in North Carolina, and museum officials believe it happened because vandals confused it for a Confederate memorial, according to the Dunn Daily Record and other media outlets.
“Airborne founder Maj. Gen. William C. Lee shares the last name of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, but they are unrelated men who served different armies in different wars during different centuries.”
“Still, officials at the William C. Lee Airborne Museum in Dunn believe someone mistook the two for the same person, according to TV station WNCN.”
“This is not a Civil War museum,” museum curator Mark Johnson told WNCN. “This is General William C. Lee from United States Army Airborne from World War II, so I was hurt and surprised that somebody would actually do this.”
These comments that were posted on Facebook on the above article are classic!
“I am an 81-year-old 82nd Airborne trooper and I would enjoy kicking the hell out of this trash…”
“When caught, don’t take them to jail. Just drop their sorry butts off at a 82nd Airborne barracks (at) Fort Bragg,” “I guarantee they will get their due justice.”

Well, I am a 73 year-old paratrooper of the 509th PIR, and I would like to do some curb-stomping in my Corcorans. What gets me is how totally ignorant of history the responsible proggy cretins are who did this. The statue of this General Lee is in WWII uniform with his image wearing bloused jump boots and the c*nt cap w/ parachute-glider patch.
It’s the name that TRIGGERS!!! them. (Well, really, everything triggers them, so….)
They can’t tell the difference between 19th century, 20th century and 21st century, not if you put a gun to their heads. And they do think that everything happened yesterday or last week. They can’t do simple arithmetic or write complete sentences.
Just you watch …. Bruce Lee will be next!
rgr1480:
Well, whadda know…
There IS a Statue of Bruce Lee…in Los Angeles..
https://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/46661
Any day now the TARDOs will assault it as well.
The only thing TARDO hippies want to do is try to force TARD and liberalism down everyone’s throat. The only time they try to get bold is when they either outnumber their intended victim by at least ten to one and/or out weigh them by at least two to one!
Leftists vandals are also ignorant dickheads who can’t read? This is not my shocked face.
Just.gonna.get.worse.
To these ignorant fools, every War Memorial depicts “Massa” with a whip. We are tracking and documenting each one. May recall from earlier comments on another thread about a Border Patrol Memorial vandalized.
These idiots need to study the history of the slave trade in America, who started it, who built the ships, who owned the massive plantations that grew the cotton, who invented the cotton gin that made the growing thereof so profitable, what was the first “stocks” sold on the NYSE, and who/what party decided that a war was needed.
They further need to study who paid for and built the War Memorials that are out there and what they stand for.
Oops my bad, what dahell was I thinking? You cannot convince idiots of the facts when their minds are made up.
In some areas, armed patrols are starting to watch over War Memorials. It is just a matter of when, not if, something is not going to go very well.
Short history lesson for the moron/morons who tried to burn the statue of Bill Lee:
“William Carey “Bill” Lee (March 12, 1895 –June 25, 1948) was a senior United States Army officer who fought in both World War I and World War II, where he commanded the 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the “Screaming Eagles”. Lee is often referred to as the “Father of the U.S. Airborne”.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_C._Lee
Let the TARDOs try their shit in Red State America and see just how quickly they get their asses handed to them. They say they’re going to start a revolution while at least 98% of them can’t even start a lawnmower, let alone figure out which restroom to use! OH, and we Conservatives own the vast majority of guns and ammo, thus if we decided to be a problem, we would have by now, anyone remember the mobs of rioting Conservatives the last time a D-rat was elected President? I sure don’t!
“…can’t even start a lawnmower”…
“…anyone remember the mobs of rioting Conservatives the last time a D-rat was elected President?”
Yes, in fact I do!
Other than the teabags left on the fence and lawn of 1600 Pennsylvania AVE there was nothing else to report, yet the MSM painted as violent anti-gov/racist/militia-types that had all the hate in their eyes.
Another reason why I refuse to see the liberal mainstream media as anything other than the propaganda wing of the DNC!
Not convinced that it isn’t the reverse which is true. Could it be that the media is driving the propaganda from the DNC?
(Refer back to the very old leftist agenda to take over both the media and the education industry. We know that they long ago accomplished the latter, but it is entirely plausible that the former is also a done deal. It is further plausible that the entire agenda is being driven by media types, and has been for a very long time.)
These would be the same mental giants that didn’t want an Asian man named Lee giving color commentary during a UVA game last year, right?
AW1Ed, thebesig, Ex-PH2, Dave, Hondo, Admin:
Do any of you think the “General Lee” mistaken identity story may be a separate topic to post?
How ignorant/dumb was that individual/folks who did this, i.e.did they ever take history or listen during history class…or is the Civil War even taught in school anymore? (Hopefully unbiased, but that is wishful thinking on my part).
As I recall, a year or two ago (Charlottesville), a Virginia college football team did not want to have their sports announcer do his job because his name was Robert Lee. The irony was THAT Robert Lee was Asian-American!
And that is why I posted this YouTube Video made by Budweiser (The Lee Family Reunion)…it’s a classic!

You are always welcome to post an article if you would like to.
You have been around these parts for a long time.
Thanks for all you contribute around here.
Besig, where did you get that highly accurate portrait of our fave Berzerkeley commie cuttlefish in full meltdown.
speaking of which rgr, did I miss him getting the ban hammer dropped again, or did he just die from sniffing his own farts?
Likely the latter, as the admins here have been extremely tolerant of his commie agitprop bullshit.
From what I understand, Jonn let him spout his shit until he wore out his welcome and got himself banned. Part of me misses getting to mess with him while the rest of me misses him like I do my last toothache!
AW1Ed addressed VA Corruption in Los Angeles. It never stops. This one is Maryland. Greedy Little Ducks. All of Them:
“Greed Corrupted You’: VA Official Who Exploited Veterans In Fraud Scam Gets 11 Years”
https://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/greed-corrupted-you-va-official-who-exploited-veterans-in-fraud-scam-gets-11-years-1.568932
“…King led a scheme to steer 88 disabled veterans and more than $2 million in taxpayer-funded benefits to sham job-retraining schools in exchange for bribes and kickbacks.”
“He was sentenced to 11 years in prison in Washington after former U.S. service members told a judge how King, 61, of Baltimore, wasted years of their lives and left them with nothing but debt and stolen dreams of post-service careers.”
Couldn’t find any pictures of him and his cohorts. Just curious.
Hope they all enjoy the attentions and ministrations from Bubba Thor Julio & Mr Tiny.

IMHO, a well deserved upgrade.
“Army Amputee’s Award Is Getting Upgrade To Distinguished Service Cross”
https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2019/02/19/army-amputees-award-is-getting-upgrade-to-distinguished-service-cross/
“More than 10 years after earning a Silver Star for taking down an insurgent in a suicide vest while deployed to Iraq, retired Sgt. Daniel Cowart is getting an upgrade.”
“On March 20, he’s going back to Fort Hood, Texas, where he’ll receive the military’s second highest valor award ― the Distinguished Service Cross ― for the heroic act that cost him part of his leg and led to his early retirement from the Army…”
“…He received the Silver Star for his actions in 2007, but a 2016 Defense Department-wide review of Global War on Terror valor awards resulted in a recommendation to upgrade the award…”
Thanks for posting Anotherpat. Glad he got the upgrade, shame it took this long to recognize his level of Valor.
Troops such as these is why Army can Go and Beat Navy.

Anyone here chew? (Tobacco, that is).
Cuz if you, the Veteran Affairs is looking for folks to partake in the Great America Spit Out Challenge tomorrow.
Not a joke:
“Would You Take This VA Spit Challenge?”
https://www.militarytimes.com/veterans/2019/02/20/would-you-take-this-va-spit-challenge/
“Do you chew tobacco?”
“The Department of Veterans Affairs wants you to take the Great American Spit Out challenge on Thursday, Feb. 21.”
“And no — the feds aren’t interested in how far you can spit after you dip. They want you to kick the habit for one day, and hopefully for good, using VA health resources at your disposal.”
I don’t dip. Never have. If others want to do it, that is their choice. The only thing that always bothered me was when folks spit into an empty bottle or can in front of me in public. Or in staff meetings…or at airports..in a non-smoking building. Or on an airplane…After all, tobacco is tobacco..

I once made the mistake of sitting next to a buddy of mine while sipping from a 20oz Coke bottle while said buddy was spitting into an identical 20oz Coke bottle. I’ll let you figure out the rest.

“VA Says It Made A ‘Mistake’ Using Gender-Neutral Motto”
https://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/va-says-it-made-a-mistake-using-gender-neutral-motto-1.569465
“The Department of Veterans Affairs made a mistake — not a policy change — Tuesday when it published a gender-neutral version of its motto on official event programs, an agency spokesman said.”
“The altered motto was published in the back of programs provided at VA headquarters in Washington during the launch of a new benefits appeals process. It read, “To care for those ‘who shall have borne the battle’ and for their families and survivors,” and was attributed to President Abraham Lincoln.”
“The agency’s official motto is a quote from Lincoln’s second inaugural address in 1865: “To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan.”
“VA spokesman Randal Noller said Wednesday the altered version used Tuesday was “simply a mistake.”
Non-troversy.
Some people just need to have their feelings trampled on constantly, you know, to make men out of ‘em.
Let’s throw this against the wall and see what sticks?
More PC run amok? Something that needs changing?
Whether we think it is good bad or indifferent, it will be changed. Man, especially orangeman…BAD!!!!!
Got no problem with the VA making the effort to make the motto more inclusive, but it remains simple fact that when quoting someone, the quote should absolutely be accurate. This was not.
How about Buzz Aldrin’s travel voucher from Apollo 11?
https://twitter.com/TheRealBuzz/status/1097904998158123008
I love that they get to list AR and LV as “Moon” and their mode of travel is “Govt Spacecraft”. I feel like I missed out.
Mason….that is SO neat!
Thank you for sharing!
Coincidently, I finally watched “First Man” yesterday. Despite critics, I really enjoyed it.
Neil Armstrong, Rest In Peace.
Same with Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee, who lost their lives 27 January 1967.
That was cool as hell. I had a few travel vouchers while on AD, but not many. I did spend 20 = years as a “road warrior” and had to fill out one every week for private business. Have had a few more with Ma Bell over the last 20.
Per diem and reimbursement sure has
changed.
Saw a little blurb the other day, somewhere, on what an E 4 was making in country in ’69/70 w combat & O/S pay. Worked out to about $.03 per hour.
Much respect for the Astronauts. Strap your happy ass to a gazzilion gallons of high test and hang on. And no AAA Auto Service or recovery vehicle standing by.
Myself and a couple guys at the office are working on our private pilot licenses for the express purpose of submitting a DTS voucher and claiming “privately owned airplane” as mode of travel.
I liked First Man as well. I’m a space geek, and in particular the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. In fact, last fall I went to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago without realizing they had the actual Apollo 8 capsule on display (and a ground test LM). My wife was astonished when I totally geeked out and told her (from memory) about their December 24, 1968 trip and the reading from the Bible.
As for First Man, it was a tad slow, and I thought that Gosling’s portrayal of Armstrong made him seem like a total rigid stuffed shirt, but overall it’s good. The landing itself is cinematically gorgeous.
Mason…we thought First Man was a bit slow in some parts…and yes, I thought the movie depicted Neil Armstrong as being somewhat aloof, but as you stated, it was overall a great movie.
You are so lucky to got to see the Apollo 8 capsule!
Thank you again for sharing Buzz Aldren’s travel voucher with all of us…
I look at TARDOs the same way as I see the Drivers in these “11 Foot 8” videos, a Business Owner whose windows face this Railroad Overpass have made it THE most famous “Truck-Eating Bridge” on the internet, local Government installed a lit up warning sign telling Drivers to detour yet many still ignore it resulting in everything from nicks to full “top-offs”,enjoy!
API…some villages are missing their idiots…
My big bucket truck has 12’6″. Got nervous every time I had to go under anything that was marked less than 14′. The smaller buckets were 10-11′. It was against company policy for any truck to go thru a drive thru window. The idiots would still try to go thru an 8′ drive thru. We’re self insured. Now you know why your phone bill could be so high.
Needs more SWIFT drivers.
Yeah, SWIFT, I always took it as an acronym for:
Student With Idiot For trainer
Sure Wish I’d Finished Training
Slow Wagon In Fast Traffic
Stopped Wagon In Fast Traffic…
Some say that Swift Transportation is the reason that the State of Arizona posted a MINIMUM 65 MPH for the passing lanes of their Interstate Highways, I came off the road in 2001 and Swift was the laughing stock of Truckers back then as well, they had just taken that title from JB Hunt (Jim-Bob Has Underspeed Neutered Trucks)!
Nice way to say it but that is not the term used for JB Hunt that I heard and you probably heard the other version.
*UUUhhhm*yeah, definitely maybe, I can neither confirm or deny at this time, yeeeaaahhh…
That makes me miss being a commercial truck inspector. I’d submit them all for a driving retest.
That is NOT going to look good on their driving records, DAC Report or resume’!
At least a couple of them slowed down as they reconsidered just how tall they were. Not quite good enough but they didn’t peel the entire top off the truck or bump the load off.
“What did that sign say?”
And here we go…

I saw this and thought to myself, “Damn, problem solved”.
Her father was Yemeni so is that the next stop on her jihadi vacation?
Stay tuned though, the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the left will commence in three, two, one…
Paint ratio question. If a mixture will be 5:1:1 are there not 7 parts? The question is in the context of mixing paint for a car where the main part is the paint, another part is reducer/thinner and another part will be a catalyst.
To my thinking, 5/7 is the volume of paint, 1/7 is the amount of reducer and 1/7 is catalyst/activator. In respect of a quart or 32 oz that would be 22.85 oz of paint, 4.57 oz of reducer and 4.58 oz of catalyst.
Alternately, the devil makes me wonder if it might actually be 5/6 + 1/6, wherein the values, for a quart, might be 21.3 oz of paint, 5.33 oz of reducer and 4.39 oz of catalyst.
Guiness be damned, I’m going with the first notion, that there are 7 parts to account for.
FWIW, I think this stuff was covered in 8th grade chemistry, before I went to college!
The first one, just divide 22.85 by 4.57 and you’re left with the ratio 5:1.
And significant figures (sigfig) bro!
If you’re measuring a quart and your cup or spray bottle isn’t that accurate you can drop the hundreds place, should round up (ie 4.6 oz).
Now the technical aspects of painting, you are on your own!
Good luck.
Thanks. Amen on the technical part, the more I read, the less I seem to understand how it can be so variable. Maybe that’s why they invented paint booths, to minimize the variables.
Of course, you may need to make some adjustments depending upon stuff like humidity and such. Phase of the moon may not be significant this week, but the position of Venus in relation to Jupiter may be.
Oh, wait. You were making a serious inquiry there? Hmmm. Maybe my reply had a little bit of seriousness in it. Or not…
All of that stuff has to be taken into consideration, especially temperature vs dew point. It’s probably good to have the paint around the same temperature as the surface to which it will be applied.
I will practice a bit with spraying water, lacquer thinner and work my way up to primer/sealer.
Some of the materials are pretty costly, notably clear coat. At those prices, it helps to read the instructions and make sure the instructions mean the same thing as what you think they mean!
As to the planets… geez, it’s all a wonderment but some folks really get worked up about mercury being retro-grade or reprobate-something of which mere mortals have no influence.
So long as Venus is not in Uranus we’re probably good to go when spring shows up.
Is Earl Scheib still around? I once lived in the greater Pittsburgh area. My father had them paint a ’51 Ford Crown Victoria, with the two piece windshield, and it came out pretty good. Hehe, he had to install turn signals, seat belts and put new brushes in the generator. Wonderful interior.
Good, good. Always nice to be extra careful when you retrofit your retrograde.
Hey guys. All good. Checking in. PRoMD. Snow day with kids and now travel for few days.
Will be back online Monday.
Have a good weekend dickheads.
I’ve served with some awesome Navy Nurses. Putting this here to recognize and say thanks to all military nurses, many of whom have gone in harm’s way. They are often the last person a troop sees before going to the other side. Bless you nurses (including my daughter who is an RN).
THE LAST BREATH!
WHERE AM I?…I’m afraid.
You’re in the hospital…it’s okay…I’ll stay right here with you.
I don’t hurt anymore but it’s hard to breathe.
I have given you something to take care of the pain.

“Cheerleader’s last moments before gas explosion kills her captured on video”
That’s a headline right now on Fox online. Just click the arrow there to watch a ltttle girl be incinerated, I guess. No thanks. Someone tell me the redeeming value in such a clip. Cripes. What a screwed-up world. A sick, screwed-up world.
Bet we won’t see any Liberals tweeting about this incident:
“Conservative Activist Assaulted At UC-Berkeley Campus During Recruitment Drive”:
https://www.foxnews.com/us/conservative-activist-assaulted-at-uc-berkeley-campus-during-recruitment-drive
Some of them will openly say “your expression is violence. Our violence is expression. ”
You really have to hear that, in person, to understand the evil of a Communist.
8200 comments and climbing on the Fox link as of 1915 hrs. Most condemning, others blaming Trump.
If it had of been 2 conservatives assaulting two libs, the Nasty News would have been all over it.
Gee Whiz…
I just talked about him last week, that he turned 77 on 13 February..and now he is gone:
“Peter Tork of The Monkees Dead at 77, Report Says”:

Music from the casket, playing backwards.
Decomposing!
11B-Mailclerk:
I think it was the Beatles that were recognized as playing a song backwards “John Is Dead…”
Will have to look thru my Beatles Album collection (33 1/3 LP) and pull out the ole turntable to play it (the White Album?)
“Here we go…walking down the street…”
Sympathies to us all AnotherPat. More of our youth has slipped away. ID’ed with Peter somewhat as a bass player. Ours was a tad more rock and roll v the bubble gum crowd, but we did play a cut or two of their stuff.
Damn that was a long time ago.
Last week, you commented that you played in a garage band when I made the post about Tork’s 77th Birthday…and a week later, he’s gone.
Next it will be Mick Jagger…Keith Richards will probably live forever…

Yeah I did. Maybe taking that “trip” down the memory lane is what sent me perusing thru the you tube icon thingie that John Boy had inbedded in this machine for me. Hell found that by accident to. Guess I’m piggy backing my boys account some how or another. Sat here for hours with a real good pair of high end Panasonic ‘phones I’d forgotten I had. Didn’t realize how much music history was on there.
I didn’t make Woodstock but I was at the Atl ’69, and more better the (2) Atl Pop Fest, held in Byron GA in ’70. Felt a little guilt cause so many of my school mates were over yonder having a rumble in the jungle. Tempered by knowing I’d be there soon enough. Good times!
I’d guess that there are a lot of TAH members who have been in garage bands.
I still have most of my equipment from those days including a Hammond organ and Leslie speaker, Ampeg bass amp, Marshall guitar amp, a couple of trumpets, clarinets, saxophones from Baritone to Soprano, flute, old Baldwin Acrosonic piano, Kurzweil K2000, Shure SM58Bs, EV mics, a couple of Neumann’s, but I ain’t got no mo’ drums.
Have a viola but that hasn’t worked out much better than a cello. Western Swing needs a fiddle of some size, probably not as thick as a viola.
I want a tuba, one of those big round rigs, not to be confused with a Euphonium
As Sam & Dave might say, I’m A Soul Man
Tally, you got some sho ’nuff collectables there, ‘specially the Marshall and Shure Mic stuff. “Western swing” ie, if wanna play in Texas, ya gotta have a fiddle in the band! RTR!
Biggest regret of my life is not keeping up the fairly considerable music skillz I had from 64 thru the late 70s. Had an ass load of sound re-inforcement equipment too. 2 16 ch boards, mics, spkr columns snakes, ect… Life and divorce # 1 made casualties of most of it. A buddy gifted me a decent acoustic a few months back. Been doing a little pickin while I’ve worked on this whole medical restriction/rehab thing.
FTWIW dprt war story alert. Way back yonder one of my all time favorites and a true gentleman I met and heard was Otis Redding. Saw him and Little Richard on many an occasion at a bar in Macon that Sister was waitressing and BnL was bouncer. Otis’ death was a personal tragedy for a lot of us. Also hung out with Duane A and the boys a good bit. Would set up the sound stage in the local park on weekends and we could never tell who might drop by, plug in and just jam. I got ya…Soul Man. Old as I am, I still loves me some of our Classic Real Music from back when.
*Sigh*…when will it end..
“I own you’: Prominent Psychiatrist Accused of Sexually Exploiting Patients”
https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/02/21/own-you-psychiatrist-keith-ablow-accused-sexually-exploiting-patients/kL9rl6ti7eFFeMPRPAMZvJ/story.html
“A prominent North Shore psychiatrist is facing lawsuits from three female patients who say he lured them into degrading sexual relationships, including beatings, conversations about bondage, and, in one case, getting a tattoo of the doctor’s initials to show his “ownership” of her, according to court documents.”
“The women allege that Dr. Keith Ablow, an author who was a contributor to Fox News network until 2017, abused his position while treating them for acute depression, leaving them unable to trust authority figures and plagued with feelings of shame and self-recrimination…”
Sick bastard. Anytime now when I see doctor/patient abuse I vizulize the father of one of the girls that was abused by the Olympics doc coming after the bastard in court. The Bailiffs had to pull the Dad off of the doc. If this type of punishment was allowed to happen and broadcast on the news, you’d see this type of behavior slowing down quite a bit. Dirtbags are being dirtbaggery ’cause there is no swift and sure punishment.
He said in a Boston TV Interview that he is innocent and that all charges are false…
Am waiting for the mainstream media to pounce on this story since Ablow was once a Fox News contributor and a Reoublican.
It never stops, 5th. It never stops.
The lame stream news is too busy keelhauling Trump for the actions of that scumbag Coast Guard LT. I watch a few seconds of CNN and MSNBC a few times each day to determine what Trump is up to. Because, you know, every damn thing that happens is b/c of Trump. On MSNBC (the absolute worst, IMO) this week, by watching a few seconds I heard that Trump WAS an agent of Putin. I’m waiting for the report to be made public, which I understand may be within a few weeks or days. I’m thinking there will be no nexus between Trump and Russia. If this is the finding, the LSM will announce that the investigation was not thorough and should be continued. They desperately want for the witch hunt to continue, at least until the 2020 elections. I’m SO tired of this bullshit. My hope is that there are sufficient numbers of critical thinkers who will vote in 2020. I’m tired. SO tired …
I found this and thought it interesting and thought HMCS (FMF) and SARC might also be interested, as may others. It appears that the purpose is to give a certain number of NEC 8404 Corpsmen advanced training. I think this is a good thing. I went through Field Medical Training (8404) at Pendleton the first (? second) class of 1970. I learned a great deal, but wished there had been more hands-on training. The headline is shown below and the response is after that. “AFRICOM Marines have signed up Air Force PJs to do Corpsman work.” Corpsman training may be in the same base at Ft. Sam but it is not affiliated with Army medic training. Different commands, and different buildings. PJ’s are operators capable of austere care and except for the few RECON IDC SARC’s, who’s numbers are in the 150 range, they are a great bridge until the Navy can get their SARC numbers up. Formal paramedic certification is not needed to function in this environment. You can piecemeal it and have a final product that is great. The Air Force simply chooses to put their PJ’s through civilian paramedic training for whatever reason. A lot of the training is unnecessary. It’s not like any of these guys are going to leave the service to take a low paying, terrible civilian medic job. So I like the way Navy SARC’s do their pipeline better. The bottom line is a basic 8404 corpsman is not trained well enough to perform Prolonged Field Care. It takes more knowledge which is why all the new Navy SARC accessions will be rated RECON IDC’s upon completion of the 123 week pipeline. Google HM ATF program. The Navy is ramping up the numbers of these guys because of exactly what this article is saying. But in truth the needs of MARSOC, JSOC, and NSW are so great that I doubt SARC’s will ever be placed with units like this. So, there’s more value in my opinion in training a higher level of FMF corpsman that can do this type of work with a… Read more »
