Taco Bell Employee “Doesn’t” Speak English

| September 15, 2018

Chances are that if you wanted to spend a long time in another country, you’d want to learn some of the language. If moving there due to a job or other reason, perhaps a more detailed, in-depth study and practice of the destination country’s language.

Dito for those who want to come to the United States or to another English-speaking country.

A couple were in the mood for some Taco Bell. They rolled into the drive through, just like they’d do at any other drive through, in order to place their order.

There was a problem though.

The employee at the Taco Bell drive through claimed that she didn’t speak English. The customer tried to reason with her, even schooled her on how she could be doing her job. The employee still insisted that she didn’t speak English.

From Fox News:

After getting nowhere, Montgomery asks to speak with a manager.

The employee, who identifies herself in the video as Luisa, replies in Spanish: “She is in her house sleeping,” in a dismissive tone before saying “Honey, I have a car behind you,” and closing the window.

Towards the end, the customer asks, in English, what the employee’s name was.

Luisa answered, despite claiming that she didn’t speak English. She couldn’t even use this as a, “Well, that’s a common English question that folks know.” Unless the signs and menu in the restaurant are all in Spanish… Or they honestly don’t speak English.

Their community identifies mostly as Hispanic or Latino.

However, someone representing the minority in that community had to have visited that restaurant while Luisa worked there. Or, is this a case where they, and their customers, only spoke Spanish at that specific Taco Bell?

A video of the incident:

It’s even worse than that. The Taco Hell (former) employee instructs the customer they need to speak Spanish.

Best Mexican food, my ass.

/literally.

//my ass.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Taco Bell is always bad for asses in general

STSC(SW/SS)

That is why it is called Taco Hell.

Roger in Republic

Per Taco Bell Luisa no longer works for them. And her name was not Luisa, and she was the shift manager that night. I think she was just getting it over on the black customer. That video was posted within moments of its occurrence. And it was delivered with a race card, BOOM!!!

Mason

“Luisa” should know in the social justice hierarchy, black outranks Hispanic. It’s the George Zimmerman rule.

“If moving there due to a job or other reason, perhaps a more detailed, in-depth study and practice of the destination country’s language.”

No brainer- especially if working in the service industry, like fast food restaurants.

This reminds me of the time I stopped at a gas station in the LA area to ask for directions. Think I stopped at five different stations before I found one that had an employee who could speak English, but she was so clueless about the area where she worked she couldn’t give me direction to the street I was searching for. (For the benefit of the critics here: No, I did not have a surface street map; and this was before most rental cars had the Nav function.)

Casey

Americans aren’t so hot on directions either. I got lost recently and received more than a few “I think it’s down that way” directives until one nice lady gave me specific directions. And nav on my phone kept crashing, thanks. I blame Google Maps. They told me to turn onto the wrong bloody street.

I work with a lot of Mexicans in restaurants, and most of them speak fairly decent English, but they stay in back of the house. Most of them aren’t fluent enough to work front of the house and they’re smart enough to know it.

NHSparky

I had a 2004 Expedition. The center console on that thing was MASSIVE.

It barely held all the Thomas Guides I needed for work (I covered the entire SCE territory.)

What happened to the days when one could gas up at the gas station and the attendant would clean your windshield and check the cars fluid levels and you could go inside and take a free folding road map to help guide you on your way to your destination. Now those days were really a “Gas” Sorry, but I had to get that in on the comment.

Ex-PH2

Have you been watching ‘Back to the Future II’ again?

“May I help you?”

“Yes. I’d like a an order of nacho fries.”

“Would you like hepatitis A with that?”

“No, no thanks.”

“How about a dose of E. Coli?”

AW1Ed

Easy. E. Coli is in the lettuce. From the, err, fertilizer.

Fyrfighter

That’s what happens when you hire people from a third world shithole to pic your lettuce.. they’re used to just wiping their asses with one hand after taking a shit in the fields, and continue to pick the lettuce…why wouldn’t we want more of them our country????

HMC Ret

Sorry, 2/17, today’s specialty is hepatitis B with a side order of projective diarrhea.

HMC Ret

Damnit, projectile. Damn autocorrect. Projectile, damnit.

JacktheJarhead

I think Projective is very descriptive. I have a Taco Turd up the street from me that I have not been to since I was constipated. After eating there, regular as clock work! There are better Mex food places even here in the DPRM than Taco Turd.

5th/77thFA

Damn a buncha fast foods slops, err shops. Damn a drive thru window, and for damn sure, damn a buncha taco hells. And while we’re at it, damn a buncha people coming into our country and not learning our language. We are the United States of America. We speak American English. Deal with it, learn the language, or GTFO. Been all over the world as a “guest resident” and made it my business to at least learn enough of their language to get by. As you can tell, maybe, I’m not a fan of fast food, especially taco hell. Did cook and manage a KFC or 2 way back yonder. There is a very good reason taco hell food is so cheap and the help so sorry. If you have ever worked in fast food, you know what I mean. If you must frequent a place like that, always go inside, check their Dprt of Health posted inspection sheet and the rest room. That should tell you if you want to risk their food. Oh, and Jeff, that place you were talking about that disappeared 50 years ago? It was called a Service Station, where you could get Service for you and your car. Buy enough gas, tires, batteries, or oil, and you’d have a nice set of dinner ware. Lots of times/places, there would be a Mama Jeans Country Kitchen next door where the Blue Plate Special would run you .35 – .75 cents. Only us dinosaurs can remember that. You’re showing your age, Brother.

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Last year, after picking up my daughter from Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA, we stopped to get gas before the long drive home.

I learned the station wasn’t “self service” when an attendant told me I was doing his job. (He was nice enough about it).

Sure enough, it was a service station just as you described from years ago. He finished pumping my gas, checked under the hood, checked the tires and cleaned the front and back window for me.

Until then, it had been at least 35 years that I visited a full service station.

My daughter mentioned that in some places, it’s considered “illegal” for people to pump their own gas, and that New Jersey is short of like that.

2/17 Air Cav

Similarly, I stopped on the NJ shistain (or was it turnpike?) some years ago. Drove up to a pump, got out, and went to fill ‘er up. Immediately, I thought there must have been a prison break, but it was only the signal that some idiot was trying to pump his own gas. In Joisey, it is illegal to pump one’s own gas.

5th/77thFA

Had heard that about Joisey awhile back. Wasn’t sure of my source. Wondering if that goes back to Service Stations being a “Family Business” that had bought and paid for “Family Politicians”? Have never driven thru there so no personal experience. Probably one of the few states like that. Hondo would know.

Fyrfighter

Nah.. look at the kind of assholes they elect in Joisey.. Booker being a perfect example… any group of people that would elect a piece of shit like booker, the best part of which obviously ran down the crack of his mama’s ass, is OBVIOUSLY ot intelligent enough to pump their own gas.. hell, they probably have a hard enough time remembering to breath…And THAT is why you can’t pump your own gas i that state..

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Your right 5th/77thFA and I’ll never see 72 again along with the Friday night Green stamps from the local A&P supermarket where it cost my Dad twenty five bucks to feed a family of 4 for the week.Amen.

I can remember when a Blue Plate Special, say two hot dogs, coleslaw, baked beans and sweet tea was 75 cents with refills for free.

Fatcircles0311

Last week I drove off after trying to order a simple salad from wendies. The person taking the order didn’t understand English. I’ve also had to point at what I wanted at Burger King because the person taking orders didn’t understand English either. I live in fucking Michigan. This immigration shit is out of control.

2/17 Air Cav

And just to add to the fun, I must say that, generally speaking, I find Mexican males to be fairly repulsive and Mexican females to be attractive.

2/17 Air Cav

That makes me a gender-based racist, I guess. I’ll take it.

26Limabeans

And heterosexual at that.

Ex-PH2

It makes you hopeless, Air Cav. Simply hopeless. (Sigh)

Fyrfighter

The only thing wth mexican females is that, no matter how hot they are in their 20’s, eventually, they get a visit from the “burrito fairy”, who waves her magic wand, and their asses expand like a balloon….

Garold

Maybe that’s why I married one of those women 39 years ago; that and her ginormous bosoms. At my old unit we had special black t-shirts with our emblem and call signs on them. My wife was given one in honorarium as being the “team mom” who’d bring food and booze upon our return from deployments to our unit – “Jugz”.

Garold

I’ll say this about Hispanic males; if you get in a fight with one, you’re in a fight with all of them. They will pounce you like raccoons on a stray cat. I speak from experience having the crap being beat out of me in my youth as well as in my 40’s.

Garold

Make that 30’s. If I recall correctly I was 34. However, I didn’t go down without inflicting pain on the one guy with the mouth challenging me.

Those black people don’t know how lucky they are. Would you REALLY want to place an order there after going through all that bullshit? I can guarantee-damn-tee their order would have been contaminated. I am terribly selective where I order. I go to only certain BK in a good neighborhood where the workers are white. I never fucking to to TB (that’s Taco Bell, not Tuberculosis) or Arby’s. Whataburgers are always safe. McDonalds so-so. Depends on neighborhood, time of day. It’s always better to go inside, make friendly eye contact and hope for the best. I always say hello, please, thank you, etc. I rarely get the same in return. I’m genuinely surprised when treated well. Hardy’s is hit and miss. Wendy’s hit and miss. Crystal is a shit house, IMHO. Bottom line, we infrequently go to fast food. I want to go to a place where I’m not singled out for shitty food and service. If the food is going to be contaminated, I want everyone to have the shits with me and/or have spit on their burgers. It’s personal preference kind of thing. lol

Ex-PH2

This is becoming a problem, yes.

I’m inclined to go to a pizza shop to order pizza instead of having it deliverd, because then I can see whether or not it’s clean.

I really don’t like going out for a meal very much these days, because there is always some issue announced on the news, and it isn’t pleasant. And that’s a shame.

There is a hotdog stand not far away that serves Polish sausages your way and nice, crispy fries, but the owner is always there, so I will gladly give him my business.

It’s hard to find a place you can trust to give you decent food instead of food poisoning now. The McD’s I occasionally go to is very clean and all the Latinos employed there speak good English.

What a world we’re living in now, when you can’t go to a fast food spot because the place is – well, not good.

NHSparky

I’ve learned in my years on the road what neighborhoods are okay to have lunch/dinner in, and which I do my own cooking.

Where I’m working right now, the hotel area is decent enough, but the work area means a trip the night before to pick up a sandwich and chips at Wegmans.

It’s a damn shame that Barbara Billengsley was unavailable.

We haven’t eaten out since the Jack in the Box kangaroo meat story. We only buy at neighborhood run stores and Safeway…sadly our town is 50% Hispanic 30% white 20% opiate and meth heads.

Hire the good people at The Stunning Agency to provide cover fire for you on your next shopping run.

NHSparky

Preach.

Back home, we’ve had people OD’ing in the Walmart parking lot.

But that pales compared to what I saw last week here. Work location faces a supermarket and parking lot.

Saw a fight straight out of World Star/youtube hell. Two women fighting, one gets in her car, nails the other hard enough to send her 15 feet or so. This chick gets up, GRABS A SHOPPING CART, and goes Hulk, throwing it into the car window/hood. Car REALLY guns it this time, but misses, and everyone takes off.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Off topic —

Brothers, I could use some advice. I’ve been taking care of my mother-in-law and sister-in-law for probably 15 years or more of my 39 years of marriage. I rescued them once again three years ago from being homeless. I even converted a bathroom to accommodate ADA standards for them.

The problem is there is a toxic stench coming from their room over the last year that permeates the house. While their downstairs on the far side of the house, that stink comes through the kitchen and living room upstairs to my bedroom and sometimes I have to close my door.

I can’t have company over. I can smell the stink outside when the windows are open. They don’t seem to have any sense of smell because they are oblivious to what I’m telling them. I’ve got a dozen odorizers hanging about their door and in the kitchen. Febreez doesn’t help. Their clothes stink, their carpet stinks, their person’s stink yet they don’t believe me.

Between the two they bring in maybe 4K a month. They can’t survive on that alone. I don’t want them to leave because I know they won’t make it plus Mom is 88 years old.

What the hell is a guy to do? Suck it up until the funerals?

MY HOUSE STINKS! WHAT OPTIONS MIGHT YOU THINK OF?

Garold

A ditty on the sister-in-law, I’m pretty certain she’s the cause of the stench. However, I’ve also come to conclusion she has damaged her brain. I throw Super Bowl parties every year (and of course you all are invited) and one of my vet buds was talking about the long term affects of marijuana use and how it causes brain damage. My sis speaks up and says “Yeah, I’ve been smoking since I was 14!” proudly. Later in the conversation my bud makes a similar claim and she responds with the same statement.

When I purchased my retirement home in 2011 my wife and I designed a custom kitchen and had hardwood floors installed. My sister-in-law has proceeded to destroy it since she moved in. She filled a pot of water to the brim and boiled it over into the electrical switch on the stove island so as to burn it out. She thought the sink sprayer was a 100ft garden house and pulled on it until she pulled it out. She broke the dishwasher by leaning herself on it while open until it came off the hinges. While the wife and I were in Alabama visiting the Air Force daughter and family she had some clown come over to fix the sink hose, though he was unsuccessful. What he was able to do was create a link that slowly flooded the hardwood floor there and destroy it. She’s not allowed to use our washer and dryer because she was using the dryer door while open to hold her massive body weight up.

Each time accused though she takes offense as a 12-year old would saying “did you see me do it?” Yeah. Long-term marijuana use. 14 years of age. No side effects and nothing to see here folks.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Honeywell-True-HEPA-465-sq-ft-Air-Purifier-Allergen-Remover-HA300BHD/204390560

Does not suck. I have the older round model and it was a god send when I watched my brother in laws house along with his stench hound. Dam dog funk ruled the house no matter what. I went and got one at 6am one morning when the Home Depot opened and a few hours later when my spousel unit woke up she could not believe the difference.

Garold

Thanks for that idea, Couver, I have to make a Home Depot run this week anyway. I tried some of those smaller ones that plug into the wall but maybe they’re just too small.

HMC Ret

Good price for a True HEPA 465 sq. ft. Air Purifier/Allergen Remover by Honeywell. Very good price. I see it is on sale.

Re your SIL, any chance she is flushing sanitary (how in hell did they come to be called sanitary?) napkins down the toilet?

Where do you live where $4K won’t support two people? Put their butts in a cheap hotel and tell them they are on their own until they clean up their stink.

Crazy from decades of being a doper or not, she has no respect for your property. Tell her she is bounced if she doesn’t square herself away.

I know, harsh, but I sense this is weighing heavily on you and I’m offering simplistic ‘solutions’ that may or (probably) may not work.

Have you had a plumber of your choosing eyeball the plumbing and the stench? Could be they have a good, cheap idea.

Sure would like some feedback on this down the road, regardless of outcome. Wishing you the best.

Garold

Howdy HMC and thanks for your ideas. I’ve ordered two of those purifiers that will soon be here. It is not a feminine issue. The smell is not from their bathroom but the bedroom.

We live, unfortunately, in California. 4K a month, especially given their mismanagement of monies, will not allow them to stay in a place month to month. Like my wife, decimal points elude them. To them there is no difference between $100 and $1,000. If they’ve a nickel they’ll spend a dime.

I can’t turn them out which is my issue. I love them but the problem is my brain-damaged sister-in-law. In the multiple times I’ve housed them over the last four decades when the daughter moved out, the mother did as well. I’ve found out just today via my wife that they lived in an automobile right prior to them moving in with us the most recent time three years ago. I can’t have that happen again.

The reason I asked folks here is to obtain ideas I couldn’t see out of my frustration. It allowed me to think more clearly and come up with additional solutions. Air purifiers, yes. Possible maid/healthcare individual, yes. Health inspector, yes. More patience on my part, yes.

This site consists of fellow vets. I consider this a displaced VFW for which I have fellow brothers. At times I come here with my dilemmas and have yet to be disappointed by the support I receive; to include you, HMC.

Ex-PH2

I hate to say this to anyone, but your in-laws require more than just a room to stay in. You are going to have to swallow your sympathy and get someone to supervise their care if you can’t do it. It sounds like they’ve clogged the plumbing in the bathroom that you set up for them, hence the foul odor. That, or a dead animal, but dead animals stop stinking after a while.

This isn’t a joke. They need more supervision than you are giving them. They can’t be left alone in your home. It may be embarrassing to have to ask for that kind of help, but you need it because they are wearing you out.

Garold

Thanks for that PH, and that is an option I need to explore. Normally my wife would be here during the day but she’s been watching our latest grandson about 40 miles away and I didn’t want her driving back and forth each day.

Speaking of their bathroom, they did knock the toilet loose as well as break one of the sliding shower doors last month while I was at VFW Service Officer training.

I’ve checked the bathroom but the smell is coming distinctly from their bedroom. I’ll have a second room available soon so they don’t have to share. At that point I’ll be able to deduce which on has the issue. But right now anything made of cloth in that room smells.

I’ve considered the possibility that the sister-in-law may be sick; literally. I did some research on trmethylaminuria and tissue necrosis but won’t go to the doctor.

Garold

That should have read ” trmethylaminuria and tissue necrosis but she won’t go to the doctor.”

Ex-PH2

If she’s as dense as she seems to be, she’s more of a danger to herself than to anyone else. Your home can be repaired.

You have my sympathies. You might want to talk to someone in Family Services about how to get some help, both for you and for her.

Garold

Thanks for that. She has regressed over the years as she’s gained a tremendous amount of weight. I believe she simply wants to die and is taking the long route. There’s a family service office in my mountains that I’ll contact.

Garold

Thanks Sig, I’ve decided to attack this from a few angles. Speaking with my wife this morning, she’s going to watch the grandson here at our house. I’m gonna get two of those air purifiers Couver recommended.

I’m also going to contact the county and see if I can get a safety inspector here. He or she may be able to deduce the issue as well as make other recommendations. I’m worried they may burn the house down some day and would like to have their electrical devices and extension cords inspected.

The sister’s only 56 but seems to have the mentality of a 13 year old these days. When called out on her actions she becomes defensive and points fingers elsewhere.

It’s hard to fix a problem if it’s not recognized as such.

JacktheJarhead

Garold, I feel for you and have been dealing with my BIL who is very similar to your SIL. He is a long term alcoholic, started drinking when he was 13. He has multiple health issues among them is Alcohol dementia. I am sure there is a similar condition for long term marijuana abuse. He has been in a few assisted living facilities but always leaves because they take most of his money and does not have enough to get drunk. He is about the same age as your SIL and the blaming portion is from his play book.

It is tough to force someone or suggest someone with these addictions to go to someplace that will help them and keep them at least safe. Unless you can get them declared incompetent, it is tough to keep them somewhere that they do not want to be.

The smell is unfortunately related to poor hygene, bad toilet habits and the obesity necrosis is probably adding to it. If you can get the county to help out and declare them incompetent, it may releave you of this burden. Love can only go so far and you have other things in your life, like grandchildren, that are more important. I don’t think you would have problems with Elder services because you are showing that you are trying to care for them. But you can’t be a parent to them. Good Luck and if you need some support or need to vent, we are here for you. We had to clean up after the BIL on more than one occasion and the dog cleaner works great.

Not trying to be funny. The first will get rid of stink bugs and the second will get rid of any other leftover odors. Or, ship the Raid and do the Ozium first.

Garold

Bug bombs, I hadn’t thought of that. I used to use those in the apartments I managed.

Zitskey

Do they do laundry there? I’m remembering the stench coming from my boys’room when they would pile their laundry up for weeks, including wet towels…I used to throw their clothes away cuz you can never get that smell out. We didn’t tear out the carpet until they had all moved out. No matter what it turns out to be,you have to find the source or you’ll just be masking the smell

Garold

Zitskey, it’s a combination of body odor, bad breath, and sewage intensified so much it counters any deodorizers. We have a new washer and dryer but the sis is not allowed to use it for fear she’ll break the dryer door because she’s been caught leaning on the door when open.

The rug was replaced in their room yesterday with the old one being thrown away. However, anything made of fabric still stinks; to include their clothing. They have so few possession.

Funny, today my mother-in-law found a dirty diaper from my grandson and attempted to blame the smell on that. The smell started about a year ago. My grandson is six months old.

They honestly do not think they are the problem which is a problem in and of itself.

HMC Ret

Bugs. I hadn’t thought of that. If a large enough colony of roaches are behind your walls, they can generate more stink than can be removed by a small thermonuclear device. Put off those bombs, repeatedly if necessary. Problem with bugs, primarily roaches, is you don’t see the bastards during daylight. I’m only slightly kidding when I say I would rather have a root canal than see a roach in my house. I only see about 3 per year, but I still put out those roach hotels, the ones designed for large roaches. We have no smell from them, but the house was overrun with them when we bought the place in 1984. I put off bombs after bombs after bombs. Finally didn’t see any more. Nowadays I put out a few dozen of those roach hotels every spring and later in the year. 3-4 roaches per year. So, see if roach smell is the problem. Good news it will kill the hell out of all other types of bugs.

As others have said, man you have to get a handle on this mess. Regardless of her mental age, she is destroying you and you have to get a handle on it. Contacting the county health department is good advice. Air purifiers would be first step and county would be my second. You may be lucky enough to get a government employee who actually gives a shit.

Garold

HMC, if it were bugs in their room there would be bugs throughout the house.

I can literally walk through my house and follow the stink directly to their room. When their door is closed it’s not so bad throughout the house.

Upon opening their door, it’ll knock you out! It is nothing I’ve ever smelled in my life.

As to a government individual who might care? We all know how that works, however, I do know a guy in my mountains who used to be an inspector. If he’s too old and mentally gone I’m thinking of at least having one of my friends come up here as a fake and pretend to be an inspector so as to let the two know there is indeed a problem.

My sister-in-law told me just last night she thought it was all in my head.

Can’t fix a problem that isn’t recognized by all parties.

Garold

I should have prefaced my prior reply by telling you we live in the mountains. We don’t have any roaches up here. The worst we have is the piss-ants during the dry seasons. Lemon juice and water mixture works well for them.
