Retired Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Britt K. Slabinski Medal of Honor
Our buddy, MCPO NYC USN Ret. sends us pictures from the White House while Retired Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Britt K. Slabinski gets his Medal of Honor today;
Category: Navy
By far the most humbling military ceremony I have ever witnessed.
He was truly blessed that day not to have collected a purple heart… or worse. Much respect.
Now that is impressive! Usually MoH and PH go hand in hand. His guardian angels must have been pulling overtime for him to make it out without a scratch.
Hand salute. Ready, two!
Amen…
Slab is a great man. SGT Chapman’s wife was there along with Patty Roberts.
So, all that noise in the liberal media about Slabinski abandoning Chapman is lie used to get back at the President?
Not the right place for this.
Good copy. I posted before seeing the discussion below.
Well done Master Chief and well deserved. You are part of the very best of our country.
BZ, Master Chief Slabinski! Glad to see your courage so deservedly rewarded. Even if you look a little uncomfortable being the center of the nation’s attention.
I liked the bit when the president gave him a little rub to lighten up the mood. Watched the video on twitter.
The POTUS was standing behind him and in a gesture of humility to Slab he expressed himself in a dignified way.
So now you get a MOH for leading an half-assed retreat? During which you left a better man behind, who then spent the last hour of his life desperately fighting to the last bullet? During which you didn’t suffer so much as a scratch?
“Well, um, see, his sight wasn’t moving up and down so I said “smell ya later!” and ran away as fast as possible. Now where’s my award?” -Slabinski
Especially love the part of the story where maximally butthurt SEAl bigwigs repeatedly tried to torpedo Chapman’s award, including crapping all over his magnificent (and actually valorous) actions that day. Real fine group of people. Outstanding.
The truth about this disgrace is well known. They can celebrate all they want, nobody’s fooled.
WTF? And you know about this because?????
I’m assuming that under your criteria, nobody should have been awarded a MOH at Pearl Harbor.
Its pretty well documented actually. Sworn testimony from radio operators and drone footage of Chapman continuing to fight after being left. Plus, its well known Slabinski misindentified Chapman with another soldier. Again, drone footage shows Slabinski climbed over a body about 15 ft away from where Chapman was. Not saying Slabinski doesn’t deserve this, I feel he does, but Navy SOF needs to get out of the way of Chapman’s award.
I’m in agreement with you, CA_SGT. Both men are deserving of the award for their actions that day.
HMCS, didn’t mean to hit “report”…that was a fat finger….stupid “smart phone” scrolling misfire.
What the hell is your deal? I doubt you have any business Monday morning quarterbacking this incident in the first place, let alone trying to shit all over people who actually were there. Chapman is getting his Air Force Cross upgraded to the MOH as well, and rightfully so. So why don’t you just chill the hell out?

“Nobody’s fooled?” Sounds like you might be… But then, I wasn’t there. Still, a few good guys doing good doesn’t diminish the character of my service at all. Denigrating others DOES bring more questions about my own service than whoever it is I might be whining about. Try to wrap your head around that one and apply it to yourself, OK?
Delaney
This discussion should have been on the weekend open thread (usually posts around 1pm Friday), where maybe you cite some reliable articles, etc.
I’m not in total agreement, but certainly fall closer to Delaney than most. I have serious doubts about MCPO Slabinski’s leadership that day. His poor decision making led to the deaths of seven service members and I personally don’t think he is deserving of the Medal.
“Many in the Army’s elite Delta Force and 75th Ranger Regiment claim Slabinski left a man behind on the mission and made a pivotal mistake by landing his team so close to the objective.” – J.Griffin, Fox News, (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/05/24/trump-awards-medal-honor-to-navy-seal-for-controversial-mission-in-afghanistan.amp.html)
“Some members of the military’s special operations community question whether it is appropriate to honor Slabinski because of ongoing questions surrounding the fate of one of his team members, Air Force Technical Sergeant John Chapman, who may have been left behind during the battle” – B.Werner, US Navy Institute, (https://news.usni.org/2018/05/08/retired-seal-britt-slabinski-to-receive-medal-of-honor)
“Slabinski believed, and told his men, that Chapman was dead. Air Force officials, however, reportedly contest that Chapman was still alive and fought by himself for more than an hour after the SEALs moved back to a safer position. Predator drone footage reportedly supports this belief.” – H.Seck, Military.com, (https://www.military.com/daily-news/2018/05/07/navy-seal-receive-medal-honor-heroism-afghanistan.html)
My own personal sources within SOCOM and DEVGRU confirm there are doubts about the decisions made that day by MCPO. Although his actions were heroic, he was only in the position because he failed to properly plan out the initial assault via helo insertion.
Respectfully to you,
I thought it respectful to take the discussion of the controversy to the “open” thread.
Out of respect for the MOH.
Out of respect for -all- holders of it.
Fire your broadside, sir, but in the proper place. -this- thread should be respectful.
To the Medal, and to -all- who wear it.
Respectfully, folks. Asking nicely folks.
Take the arguments outside. -not- here.
TSGT Chapman next.
So when will TSgt Chapman get his?
Well, this was bound to happen. It’s a shame but it was bound to happen. There are some hard feelings about this and, the fact is, no one who made the decisions post battle was there either. I don’t get a vote one way or the other and I don’t want one.
Jonn, Delete the above post please.

MCPO Slab: Thank you for the awesome display of heroism. If you did half the stuff for which you are credited, you are deserving. Fair winds and following seas. Proud to share the anchor with you.

Well, my comment was deleted so I’ll ask again: when does TSgt Chapman’s family receive his medal for his sacrifice on that mountain?
Very soon?

Folks,
-please-, out of respect for the Medal and all who wear it, please reserve the controversy discussions for another thread.
The “open” thread will be out in a few hours. -please- take the controversy elsewhere.
Respectfully, sirs.
I ain’t missing the open thread today.
I’ll get my sack of popcorn ready. People are going to slice out slabs of each other today.
For the record, I am betting on the Air Force winning this one.
We are on way to Pentagon now for Hall of Hero’s ceremony …. my son is escorting SGT Chapman’s wife.
We are in a procession under Pentagon Force Protectuon escort. This is a huge joint effort and all branches are represented in terms of invited guests.
Much of the negativity launched above is totally absent from all who are here and know better.
