Felon among illegals suing landowner

| February 13, 2009

The other day, I wrote about 16 illegal immigrants who were suing an Arizona landowner for violating their civil rights in not allowing them to cross his land and holding them at gun point until authorities arrived. Today the Washington Times writes that one of those illegals, Gerardo Gonzalez is a felon convicted in the US for drug smuggling and deported in the ’90s;

Gonzalez, whose illegal re-entry after removal under U.S. law would be another felony, is among five women and 11 men detained by Roger Barnett, owner of the Cross Rail Ranch near Douglas, Ariz.

[…]

Asked about Gonzalez, [Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF)] spokeswoman Laura Rodriguez in Los Angeles said Thursday night that a gag order had been issued in the case and she could not comment.

MALDEF had sought Jan. 6 to preclude questioning, testimony or evidence regarding Gonzalez´s drug conviction and his removal from the U.S., saying it was “irrelevant to the factual and legal issues at hand and extremely prejudicial.”

Attorney Victor A. Rodriquez also sought to exclude at trial the numerous photographs and a videotape depicting vandalism and the transportation of illegal drugs through the Barnetts´ ranch. He said the photos and video did not involve any of the plaintiffs in this case.

On Jan. 8, Judge Roll denied both motions.

Well, other than letting this specious case go forward, the judge is at least appearing to be fair. They ought to put a homing device on Gonzalez, though, so they know where he is to throw his ass back over the fence when the trial ends.

I wonder what the jury will look like in this trial.

Okay, so the judge is fair.
But these are not “mexican Americans”!

Southern Democrat

Its a shame this is going to cover up the real issue. Just because someone broke the law once, we think its ok to take away all their civil rights??

Claymore

If you break the law, the only one who took away your rights is you. In fact, the law is situated so that even if you’ve completely lost the ability to remain amongst us as a viable citizen, we still recognize you can’t be dragged outside and given a 180gr hollowpoint IQ adjustment. Sorry…but if you’ve comitted a felony, it’s you that has decided your rights don’t mean shit anymore.

UpNorth

SD, I hate feeding trolls, but one more time, what civil rights did these trespassing, and in one case felonious, illegal aliens possess that were violated? Short, factual answers please?

defendUSA

Shit!! Someone get a band-aid, Southern dem is bleeding!! They broke the law multiple times. What part of that don’t you get?

Nucsnipe

Hey you have to remember SD needs cheap labor to work his plantation

I’m reposting to this thread since the other is outdated…

Southern Democrat is just a troll. You’d all be better off ignoring him/her/it. You’ll never change the mind of someone like that.

I’m a first generation American (father born in Guadalajara, Mexico) and a Revolutionary War descendant (mother’s side). I consider myself to have a fairly balanced perspective. My father came here legally and is now an American Citizen. It took him many years to do that. I don’t speak a word of Spanish. My father gets irate listening to the nonsense about illegals. “If I can do it, so can they”.

What infuriates me are those that cannot (or will not) comprehend the fact that there are people all over the world that are in horrible situations in oppressive countries yet don’t have the convenience of being American neighbors. Why do we allow Mexicans to jump in line simply because they’re next door? How is that fair to all the others around the world that want to come here too?

I’m all for helping people lift themselves up to a better way of life. But be consistent and fair. And FOLLOW THE LAW.

One final point: Maybe I’ll have a bit more sympathy for the Mexican Illegals on the day I see one, just one, sue in court to be allowed to join our military and fight for us. I hear time and time again how they just want to be part of the American way of life, yet never once have I heard about an Illegal here to fight for it.

Troutbum, I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls, but sometimes its fun just to watch them twitch

Troutbum

That’s true, Nucsnipe.

It’s also fun to see what spews out of their mouths every once in while. It reminds me of the times back in second grade when I’d pass by the sewer drainpipe on the way home from school, stopping to see if anything interesting would ooze out into the puddle of filth at its base. And also like now, I was disappointed every single time.

Troutbum, I salute you and your family for your honorable and straight ahead speech and the example you set!
About the trial – I find it pukeworthy that any crap-for-brains officials would even allow this to be entered into a court of law!!!

Matt

Why are you using a 180gr hollowpoint? Ain’t that too small? If you are gonna do it, use a 230gr. Really shows you are serious.

Claymore

I’m looking for velocity…some of these dumbasses are so thick skulled a slow mover like a 230 might just mushroom against their noggin’ and give them a reason to sue me.

God willing & the creek don’t rise, there may be hope for true justice yet.

And personally, I’d go for the 180 grain vs the 230 grain. Smaller, lighter & can carry more of them. (LOL!)

Matt

I prefer bigger holes. Sends a message.

I’m really surprised that a judge didn’t just laugh the plaintiffs out of court and into a CBP van to be deported back to Mexico. If the respondent wins, expect to see landowners inviting a few Minutemen onto their property for “vacations.”

Hell, with 22000 acres, I’m surprised that the respondent didn’t just do the 3 S’s with all those trespassing and tearing up his land.
