Ikaika Erik Kang; soldier arrested in Hawaii
Hawaii Now reports that Ikaika Erik Kang, 34 a soldier stationed in Hawaii has been arrested by the FBI;
FBI special agents and SWAT arrested Ikaika Erik Kang, 34, on Saturday evening at his Waipahu apartment.
FBI spokesman Arnold Laanui said Kang is with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa.
Fox News reports that Kang was arrested for his connections to ISIS and the arrest was the culmination of a year-long investigation. (Not a “year-long infestation” like the article says)
Added from NBC News;
Kang’s service record shows that he was an air traffic control operator with the 25th Infantry Division at U.S. Army Pacific Command.
He was deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and South Korea and has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Achievement Medal, the Humanitarian Service medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others.
From the Associated Press;
Kang enlisted in the Army in December 2001 just months after the Sept. 11 attacks. He served in Iraq from March 2010 to February 2011 and Afghanistan from July 2013 to April 2014.
Kang was assigned to the headquarters of the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade.
They say he was a Sergeant First Class.
Kang’s father, Clifford, said that his son may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from his tours overseas.

Well it’s also a infestation to
Made worse by the last moron in chief
Throwing open our doors so all can come in a try to kill us
Mr. Kang has seriously prodded the pooch:
18 U.S. Code § 2339B – Providing material support or resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations.
Maybe he was just bullied…that first name alone must have caused much mirth in the barracks…I’m laughing even now!
My kids are all local Hawaiian. That name is not unusual, it means strong or strength. Now the ones that have 10 or more syllables like Kamakanamakamaemaikalani, or Kauʻionālani those are unusual.
And I guess if he had lived up to that, we wouldn’t be discussing him now…and yes, barracks humor is rough but also roughly honest…this dude is a loser no matter the lofty aspirations of his name
agreed, my comment was only concerning his name. If he was in Hawaii I doubt he got teased any more than everyone else.
Yeah. Lots of Hawaiian names there. Go figgah. Pono, Kawika, Ikaika, Lopaka, etc, etc, etc.
What I loved were the women with names like Julie Kamakanamakamaemaikalanikahanamokukamahapono Smith. Hilarious.
And all the Hawaiian words thrown into ads, etc. “Kokua da Keikis!”
I also remember a while back that the trash cans in Waikiki had the word “Mahalo” painted on them. A shipmate of mine thought it meant “Trash.” Ha!
LOL MC! You got two of my grandkids names there. Bra, what bodda you? Like beef you bugga? LOL.
My buddy is a PersO in Cali and his first name is Ikaika. It’s not uncommon.
Reminds me, why Bergdahl still free and collecting a pay check?
Will being a traitor now have consequences?
Joined at 33?
Sorry, but that’s a red flag there.
I joined at 32.
More like re-joined after a twelve year break in service.

Wow, just Wow. I just heard he was “highly decorated.” What media bullshit. His highest “decoration” was the vaunted ARCOM (not with V). Moerk must be so proud now. They aren’t just handing those out for conduct that is not heroic. A handful of “I was there” medals/ribbons and an ARCOM (likely for a tour in the sandbox), thus he is highly decorated. (Too bad they don’t have a special badge for being a military air traffic controller. That has to be even more dangerous than being a fobbit.) It is obvious the media can’t report anything without putting their bogus slant on it.
Becuz he was a “highly decorated” combat ATC, that caused his dreaded PTSD and made him turn into a ‘Slamo terrorist wannabe.
rgr769, ATC’s get to wear what is now known as the Aviation Badge. (used to be Aircraft Crewmans Badge)
If you go to an Aviation MOS related school, you get to wear the badge.
Participation trophy for everybody. Hell, many years ago I heard that even if you were a clerk or cook and assigned to an Aviation unit, you got to wear the badge.
“Surprise, Surprise, Sergeant,” as one make believe Pvt. used to say. Just what the military needed, another participation trophy badge to decorate the over-decorated X-mas tree everyone is wearing as a uniform. Pretty soon they will have to eliminate the front pockets on the dress uni’s so they have more room for badges and ribbons.
Just like major Hassan and also flight controller -umm remember 9/11? Oh what was his rank? he joined in dec 2001 that 16 years ago.
SFC/ E-7
Military plane crash has been reported on CBS New’s website: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/mississippi-c130-military-plane-crash/
I say weld his cell door shut while the key is being either ground to dust or melted in a furnace. WTF possesses one to do shit like that? Of course there will have to be prior formalities such as a General Court Martial with Reduction to E1, forfeiture of all pay and allowances along with a DD with Life Imprisonment.
It’s Hawaii. Give the key to the forever vigilant on the Arizona. They are men who understand Duty and Honor.
…And it’s PTSD:
Oh. Fuck. No.
Maybe his and maybe he isn’t; what does one have to do with the other?
Bother. That should read: Maybe *he is* etc.
Probably related to the ARCOM.
So if I have PTS I’m going to join ISIS
Seriously we’re in da funk do they get this from
Is daddy a counselor or psychologist?
No? Then he needs to STFU.
Yes, telling an aircraft it is cleared to land or takeoff is very stressful. Plus he had to be worried every day when he was doing his duties at the airfield about being strafed by the Taliban Air Force.
He was moderate until he wasn’t……
If convicted he should be hung in front of his former command.
Knew him. Always crazy. Always threatening. Wanted to cut off his earlobes or something for his MMA “career”.
“Clifford Kang also told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that his son began studying Islam during one of his deployments.”
Funny, most people with reading comprehension at or above the 3rd grade level usually realize what a hateful crock of shit Islam is within the first few pages of the Qur’an. FFS
But… But… But…

I worked in a warehouse when I was deployed, so I can only imagine the hell an Army air traffic controller has seen.
You guys don’t know what that shit can do to a man.
Bwahahahahahahah…(gasp)…Bwhahahahahah….
I can attest to the horrors an Air Traffic Controller sees during any given day in Iraq. I served at Balad (05) and Kirkuk (07) and it was ridiculous! They only emptied the porta-potties once a week! Our chow runs were never on time and the ice cream would be melted :(. And the eight hour shifts, please don’t get me started on those.
But in all honesty, the Tower controllers are big sitting ducks. In Kirkuk, a MSgt had a round go through the window and lodge in the wall about 4 feet above his head (yikes!). He’s fine, made SMSgt, and is now retired without PTSD.
This guy is a joke and should have that drone shoved where the sun don’t shine while the blades are turning full power.
What really frustrates me is that I have good friends who were told “you’re a piece of shit and we are getting rid of you now, fuck off!” during the last administration’s reduction of force craze. Bureaucrats ran wild on people for any excuse they could find.
But this guy survived that and is still around even with this kind of bullshit going on as an apparent “pattern” of conduct? Just too egregious for words, other than egregious….
Fox News has an update.
Toss him in a cell, and throw the cell away.
Toss him in a volcano.
I second that, he needs to get used to burning.
I just heard this reported on WTOP. They refer to him as a “highly decorated Soldier” who received the Global War On Terror Medal. If receiving a GWOT makes you highly decorated, and may need to step up my game and stop referring to myself as moderately decorated.
My ARCOM citation says “exceptionaly” meritorious, not just plain old vanilla meritorious. It’s all in the words they use
so yeah, I guess I’m slightly better than just decorated.
Just retired after 20 years. I have ONE MSM and ONE Navy Achievement Medal…..apparently i’m not even moderately decorated.
I took an early out from Viet of the Nam because my DEROS fell within a few weeks of separation from AD.
Big mistake. If I declined the early out I would have gotten A good cookie as well. Man, that would have looked awesome next to my ARCOM.
Or on a vest….
I do not know how far back it can be done retroactively, but the (Army) Good Conduct Medal can be awarded for a satisfactorily completed initial period of service less than the normal requirement, provided the character of service completed would be qualifying, and the separation is for the convenience of the service (reduction in force, etc, not in lieu of non-judicial punishment or other more serious bad paper).
You might actually have earned a GCM.
“…“highly decorated Soldier” who received the Global War On Terror Medal.”
FFS…don’t these news organizations have at least a token vet that can explain the difference between geedunk and actual decorations before such stupid comments go to print?
With 21.5 million veterans in the country, you’d think every one of these media agencies could hire one veteran to tell them about military awards and simple concepts.
But then, that would be the media actually supporting veterans and the military and who wants that?
of course, it’s easier to further a false narrative if there’s no worry that a real vet is standing at the ready to put a thumb in your your eye when you deserve it.
Was in Oahu last Nov. After surfing and visiting Hawaii over the past 45 yrs, I finally conceded to my wife to take one of those island bus tours. Was great but my real point is that the “Hilo Hattie” type tour guide couldn’t keep from crying every time she mentioned the patriotism and pride Hawaiians have for the military and senior citizens.
Anyone with a Medicare card or AD/retired military gets a serious discount anytime they get on a bus in Honolulu. This FU’d E-7 in no way represents the fine patriotic & loving people of Hawaii. Aloha
CAPT Bones USN (ret)
I love how any disorder these says is classified as PTSD. Back in my day, it was called shell shock because of the trauma experienced in combat. I have no idea when it was renamed PTSD. I guess it was an easy label to cover a wide variety of nut cases.
PTSD first appeared as a diagnosis in the DSM-III in 1980
“Back in my day, it was called shell shock”
WTF? Are you 130 years old?
That phrase was coined in World War I./smile
Shitbag.
Highly decorated, no less. Fart, burp, giggle….
Its the PTSD……
He joined in 2001 and didn’t deploy until 2010? How the fuck did this shitbag manage to stay out of Iraq & Afghanistan for nearly a decade while everyone in uniform had several combat patches to choose from?
I heard on the news (didn’t see in this article) that he offered to train ISIS in hand-to-hand combat, which just made me laugh. You know how they turn those Air Traffic Controllers into lethal hand-to-hand killing machines.
He completed the H2H MCI
NNOOOOOOOO….!!!! Not my beloved 25th Dimension, the Electric Banana Leaf!
Toss this turd off The Pali (high cliffs), and leave his corpse for the feral hogs.
Electric Banana Leaf, Electric Vagina.
Tomayto, Tomahto.
Electric Strawberry.
The guy had his security clearance yanked in 2012, and it got REINSTATED??!?!? Why did they not get rid of this dirtbag then??
Probably because all he had to do was submit an “appeal” (adjudication) for that clearance yanking and because of that, it took them another year-plus to determine whether he should get it back or not.
All the while, he remains on active duty doing whatever tasks he can without that clearance.
Don’t forget pay and all those medals.
