Tuesday morning feel good stories

| July 11, 2017

From Moorestown, New Jersey;

Burlington County prosecutors say the resident told police that two men had forced their way into the home. A struggle ensued and the resident said he stabbed both intruders.

Authorities say one of the intruders was pronounced dead at the scene. They were trying to determine if a man who sought treatment Sunday at a Willingboro hospital for a stab wound is connected to the attempted home invasion.

In Columbia, Missouri;

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 27-year-old male victim who had been approached by a black man at 1014 Claudell Lane.

The victim told police the robber pointed a handgun at him and demanded his belongings. The victim said he pulled out his own handgun and fired several shots at the robber.

Police said no one was reported injured but an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot was damaged by one bullet fired by the victim.

From Norristown, Pennsylvania, an example of how NOT to handle an intruder;

When police arrived, they found Christen Greene, 26, in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers then encountered 29-year-old Santiago Villifan-Andrade, who surrendered at the scene by placing a handgun on the ground and raising both hands in the air.

Greene explained to the officers that Villifan-Andrade had shot him.

An investigation concluded that Villifan-Andrade arrived at his own apartment to find Greene there with a gun, and in the act of stealing money before running off. Police say Villifan-Andrade then chased Greene, tripped him, took [Greene’s] gun, and shot him.

Greene died at 4:01 am at Mercy Suburban Hospital

Villifan-Andrade was charged with voluntary manslaughter and bail was set at $500,000.

Another “how-NOT-to” story from Wichita, Kansas;

Officers were called at around 2 a.m. Monday to an armed robbery at the Valero at 851 South Meridian, near Kellogg. An employee told them a masked female entered the store, was armed with a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash. As she fled the store, a 38-year-old witness fired two shots in the air, Officer Charley Davidson said.

The suspect then got into the back of white Chevy pickup, which left the scene. She is described as a white and standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10. She wore a yellow mask, gloves, a black shirt and jean shorts.

Officer Davidson said the Wichita Police Department does not recommend firing a gun into the air.

“You could potentially face charges,” he said.

From Pensacola, Florida;

A Pensacola man has been arrested for sexual battery after a bystander held him down with a baseball bat as he allegedly tried to run from the scene.

According to his Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Cortez Pryor, 25, was spotted by the bystander running down North S Street just after midnight on July 7. The bystander told police he saw the alleged victim down the street yelling that she had just been raped, so he chased Pryor and held him down until police arrived.

If the bad guys are coming at you, shoot them, frequently, with a big gun. But, if they are running away, and you chase them down, you could be in big trouble for shooting them then, especially if you take their gun and use it to kill them. And, shooting into the air is senseless, stupid, and dangerous. Just don’t do it. Fire your warning shot at the center of their chest.

Local laws should be known and followed.

In Texas, if I understand correctly (I am not a lawyer nor have I played one on TV) if the property the perp is making off with is not easily replaceable then one can shoot him while he is running away.

Firing shots in the air is, IMHO, a dangerous and foolish use of ammo.

13yo boy got killed the other day by a bullet that someone a couple of blocks away had fired into the air (4th of July celebration, apparently).
