Billy Ray Masters; phony POW

| June 20, 2017

Someone noticed a grave marker in South Bend, Indiana for Billy Ray Masters which claims that Mr Masters was a Vietnam War POW. Mr Masters has yet to be interred at his intended last resting place;

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) has never heard of him;

He is indeed a Vietnam veteran, an engineer equipment repairman and a warehouse equipment operator with a transportation unit 1969-1970;

There’s nothing to indicate that he was a POW, or anything to indicate that he was ever in a position to become a POW while he was in Vietnam.

Maybe there was a lot of noise in the background and he just, “misunderstood” what was being asked of him.

Hey, it works for phony SEALs, why not him?

Sapper3307

Almost took it to the grave.

Ex-PH2

Tombstones cost a considerable sum. Fixing such a mistake is not going to be cheap.

Graybeard

Being stupid can get expensive as well as painful.

Maybe Billy Ray Masters can start a GoFundMe with the tag “I am a stupid liar and need cash to correct my lies.”

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Hammer and chisel will at least correct it, if not very pretty like….

I’d carve NOT AN in front of Ex-POW but I’m a dick some times…

Poetrooper

Big expensive piece of granite to forever perpetuate your dishonesty…gives new meaning to “Rock the Lie.”

A Proud Infidel®™

Or like Don Shipley said in an interview “A lot of these guys will take their lies with them all the way to their graves.” and here’s one glaring example.

SgtM

Driving that forklift must have messed him up, being disabled in the Viet of the Nam. That’s what one would think by looking at that obelisk to his endeavors.

Dan

Good honourable service, what an arsehole….

Skyjumper

(Billy Ray Masters)

….there I was, in the Viet of the Nam, driving my fork lift, carrying a very heavy load of “C-rats” for the grunts in the field. Those ungrateful boonierats had no concept of the amount of sweat, mental anguish, hard labor, and physical damage to my body that I expended daily driving my fork lift around to fulfill their every whims. In fact, I just had removed a small wood splinter from a wooden pallet that had viciously attacked my finger, drawing blood in the process. Damn, this injury could disable me!

All of a sudden……”POW”!
A tire on the forklift blew out.

I had an idea………”

The rest as they say, is history.

HMCS(FMF) ret

You forgot to mention that they were wounded “in the lower leg, above the knee”… got to make it realistic…

Just An Old Dog

I see Forging Frank Visconti is still in your thoughts.
” Gunney” Almon Henthorne is giving him a run for his money though.

Thomas Alton

Yes, but did you apply for the Purple Heart for the splinter like John Kerry did?

HMCS(FMF) ret

Another vet that shit all over honorable service.

Ho Li Fuk Provence must have been a hell hole for those that served in Viet of the Nam. Should have stayed away from Poon Tang village, Lon Duk Dong (GONG) and that Cream of Sum Yun Guy soup…. real hazardous for those supply types, with having to pull double duty as door gunners…

Poetrooper

Hey Senior Chief, I have a photo around here somewhere of me standing underneath the sign of a Hong Kong massage parlor with the name, “WUN SIK KOK.”

Heh…

A Proud Infidel®™

I remember going past “Mi Suk Oriental Restaurant” right outside Fort Lost-In-The-Woods MO. I’m sure that Billy Ray Masters has all kinds of memories of his time in Al Phuk Tup.

Sandman

Well there was that time he injured his leg, and had to walk from one compound to another for treatment. He was grabbed off the trail but escaped 2 days late, and still made his appointment.

TX_Gunner

The thing that is really sad he had his BS lie scribed on the head stone where is wife is laid to rest. She probably lived her whole life believing this crap.

Mick

Yup.

He probably has the entire extended family believing it.

Green Thumb

Yet another turd that will shame his family from beyond the grave.

Its a good thing he is not interred.

I would dig him up and toss him in the closest trash bin.

Claiming POW status is just fucking low. Many of those men went through hell. Now that I think of it, maybe this turd will wind up there as well.

Martinjmpr

Let me guess, the Viet Cong captured him, transported him to a logistics base on the Ho Chi Minh trail and made him fork lift supplies off the trucks.

But he hid a file in his boot and was able to secretly sharpen the tines of his fork lift, which he then used to spear his captors and drove that bad boy all the way back to Long Binh with two dead VC impaled on the forks.

Mick

Oh FFS.

This phony POW nonsense is getting to be way out of control.

I know that I’ve posed this question here on these pages multiple times before, so I’m sorry for being repetitive, but just what the f*ck is up with all of these poser assclowns wanting to falsely claim that they were POWs?

I really do not understand any of it.

My great uncle was a POW in WW2, I’m acquainted with some of the POWs who were held by the Iraqis during Operation DESERT STORM, and a few years ago I was introduced to one of the POWs from the Vietnam War who had been held as a POW in the Hoa Lo Prison in Hanoi (the Hanoi Hilton) for almost seven years. As far as I know, not one of them has ever gone around running their mouth and bragging about being a POW. In fact, whenever I’ve been around any of them, it’s been quite the opposite.

To any of the phony POWs out there who may be seeing this: what you are doing is cowardly and dishonorable, so STOP IT. KNOCK IT OFF. STOP IT RIGHT F*CKING NOW.

And if the phony POW posers out there won’t stop it, then hopefully applicable Stolen Valor laws can be leveraged to put these phony POWs in jail so that they can finally experience what it’s really like to spend a long time behind bars against their will.

Rant over; Mick out.

lily

I think a lot of it has to do with the Chuck Norris POW movies. These posers want people to think they’er a Church Norris type of SF killer from NAM who will karate kick your head off if you piss them off.

John Robert Mallernee

Look at how the POWs were treated like long lost heroes when they returned from Hanoi, as compared to how Viet Nam war veterans were abused and mistreated.

Add to that the public’s adulation, festivities, and welcome home parades when the hostages were returned from Iran.

That prompted the Viet Nam war veterans to wonder, “Where’s MY parade?”

Suddenly, Viet Nam war veterans became heroes, and a lot of guys who had deliberately avoided military service during the war, felt guilty, questioning their own manhood, and began pretending to be decorated war heroes.

Silentium Est Aureum

Maybe he was counting that time he was “held captive” by mamasan and forced to eat banh tom.

RGR 4-78

Maybe he didn’t pay his tab at the comfort hooch and she wouldn’t let him go till he did.
He numba 10 GI!

Guard Bum

I may get flamed but who the fuck wants “Disabled” anything on their headstone?

What a moron.

26Limabeans

Who the fuck places their own lies on a gigantic headstone thinking no one will ever know.

Sgt Fon

who puts “Disabled Vet” on their tombstone? That speaks volumes about this guy

Martinjmpr

Exactly. “Disabled” “POW” = pity sponge.

The Old Maj

I have a family member with one leg. Try and call her “disabled”. She won’t even use a disability parking pass.

If we put disabled on her gravestone she would haunt the hell of us.

Green Thumb

Maybe he thought he could keep on ripping the VA off after death?

26Limabeans

It is chisled in stone.
How could they possibly deny a grieving widow?

Graybeard

She predeceased him.

She may have died from an OD of BS.

Twist

Isn’t putting “Disabled” on a headstone kind of redundant? I can’t think of a bigger disability than being dead.

Thunderstixx

Death is forever, so is the internet…
Stupid fuck…

Sadly, there are families that still believe/are in denial that their loved ones were Vietnam POWs:

A good example is Bob Curtis, who was featured on TAH in 2014:

http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=56615

He passed away past February and his obit identifies him as a Vietnam POW:

http://ligonbobo.com/bro-bob-curtis/

Other recents obits include Wilfred Simmons:
http://www.leavittsmortuary.com/obituary/wilfred-augustus-simmons/ Gene Autry Sellers: http://www.frederickdean.com/Obituaries/Obituary.aspx?ID=1018 Donald Edgar Myers: http://www.palmerfuneralhomes.com/notices/Donald-Myers Ricky Worden: http://www.schumacher-kish.com/obituary/4181565 Wayne Poe: https://www.afterlife.co/us/obituary-valley-wayne-poe-1854391 And that is just a FEW. So many others.

If I am wrong about any of the above names, please let me know. I could not find them listed as being Vietnam POWs.

HMC Ret

Who needs Google to find posers? Just take a stroll through your local cemetery.

Weapons grade stupid this one is.

Toasty Coastie

***Sits and waits for either family or sock puppets to arrive and demand that the article to be taken down.***

Frigg’n Knob Wobble.

Gee, I wonder if he is one of the 13,000+ vets who have claimed to be Vietnam POW’s to the VA? He prolly got himself a sweet, sweet 100% disability award for the PTSD he has from his time in those tiger cages in the bush. Or maybe he sold them on the agent orange gambit, from driving a forklift in the agent orange warehouse. You know those barrels were always leaking. Hell, according to some fake news page, an Army nurse just died from her “exposure” to agent orange. She must have been one of the “secret” Operation Ranch Hand nurses.

It looks like he got married just before he got on the airplane. I’m sure that he told his wife that it was just one of those 24 hour captures and that’s why she never got a telegram.

streetsweeper

No, no, no! People, his commanding officer had him pull extra duty loading and unloading trucks. That is because he was a *dickhead* in the first place and the C/O felt generous handing him the extra duty. In doing so, this jackass felt like he was a “POW”….having to work extra duty, in the warehouse. The only other option would have been a short tour of duty for him at LBJ.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Jeepers. May be he thinks POW stands for POSSIBLY ONE WACKO. Man, since I joined this site I really see all this stuff going on. I love it. Better than sex, drugs and rock and roll.

The Stranger

This site is awesome…but really? Better than sex, drugs, AND Rock and Roll? I think that might be a bridge too far!🤠

AnotherPat

The picture on the headstone: For a second, I thought I was looking at Bill Clinton and Sally Fields.

OWB

As with every other embellisher, the real tragedy is that this gigantic lie brings into question whether his actual service was as honorable as his official records would make it seem. Why anyone would do that to himself is beyond understanding. What in the world did he get from telling this lie? Seriously, was it worth it?

Guess we will never know. What a waste.

Draft#63

Hey you lying, cheatin no account. Did you happen to get a visit from Hanoi Jane while you were supposed to be a POW? Did you get her autograph?

Lori

POW? NO. Alive yes. Disabled? Only in his head. It would be difficult to be disabled while shifting gears hammer down going 70+ mph in his “hot rod”. But his lies on this tombstone do not not surprise me. He lied when that transmission fell out of his “hot rod” and took off an 11 year old girls leg as he has lied about what is on his tombstone. His blatant vulgarity is a disgrace to every veteran, sickens me.
From a little girl inside me, who knows the true evil that you are.
