Bill Nye . . . the Eugenics Guy?

| April 29, 2017

Seems that Bill Nye, the anti-freedom propagandist who originally made his name popularizing science, is propagandizing on a wider range of subjects these days.  And he’s catching some well-deserved heat for his most recent public position as a result.

Nye’s already shown his true colors by coming out in favor of jailing “climate deniers” – a rather odd and, frankly, hypocritical position for someone who makes his living courtesy of the First Amendment IMO.  His newest position only further confirms his anti-freedom/pro-authoritarian bias.

In a panel discussion on his new Netflix show, Nye recently seemed to come out quite clearly in favor of penalizing people who choose to have “extra” children.

Yeah, you read that correctly.  Nye apparently is in favor of government-imposed limits on family size.

Perhaps someone should remind the dipstick that this isn’t a new idea.  Communist China already tried it.

It was called their “one-child policy”.   It was virtually universally considered an egregious and unconscionable violation of human rights.  China formally ended the policy in 2015.

Any government policy that results in compulsory family planning and coerced sterilizations – as did China’s implementation of its “one-child policy” – is simply not something I find acceptable.  As far as I’m concerned, Bill Nye can go straight to hell.

And no, Nye:  history quite clearly shows it won’t be “done right this time around”.  Dictatorship never is.

Freedom may be messy and difficult.  But life as a free citizen is infinitely preferable to life as a serf – who is told by their lord and master what he or she can and cannot do and say.

Well, maybe its time “ex post facto” abortions should be warranted. Lets start with Bill Nye.

Facts are facts. It’s a slippery slope when we endeavor to dismiss opinions simply due to a person having any certain degree or no degree at all.

It actually opens the door for the “appeal to power” logical fallacy in which a person with the appropriate degree cannot have his assertions questioned.

There are many people here that don’t have degrees in a certain major that nonetheless demonstrate the ability to seek evidence and form opinions based on sound analysis.

I could go on, but Bill Nye should be allowed to shoot his mouth off as loudly as he likes. How else will we know what he’s cooking up in that dormant organ he has for a brain? The more he says things like this publicly, the more he pisses people off. The result will be that he’ll lose his TV audience and make a lot of enemies. Can you imagine any parents letting him anywhere near their kids, when he says things like that?

I just love to see people who are arrogant asses underneath their TV persona make complete fools of themselves when they get a chance. We should be grateful that he was finally stupid enough to show his true colors.

What more could you ask for?

He’s an entertainer, a failed comedian, and a failed dancer. He’s also said by many who have worked with him to be a nasty bastard, quite contrary to his TV image. And he’s a lefty who Trump’s immediate predecessor in office found to be a useful idiot.

Forensic accounting would likely reveal the reason Bill Nye does what he does.

It’s probably very similar to what drives, Dr. Mercola and Dr. Oz. It’s all about the benjamins, the exposure, affiliations and power.

Bill Nye does a lot of things I do not agree with. He also does many things I do support.

His debate with Ken Ham was a mistake in my opinion. The Answers in Genesis organization is utter nonsense. Teaching children that literal Biblical accounts of the Old Testament as if they are scientific fact. Nye gave Ham a pulpit and much needed attention to raise funds for his crazy ideas.

It scares me that cases like Kitzmiller v. Dover are still going on in my lifetime. People like Nye were instrumental in getting religious myths out of the science classroom. I have no issue with teaching religion in a history or philosophy class. It has no place in a science class.

Our worlds population is exploding. We struggle to feed the population as it is. We simply can not continue at our current rate without causing a collapse. The more we feed and bring fresh water to…the exponentially more people we have to feed.

All of this social do gooder outrage will mean nothing when some event causes a collapse in our ability to feed billions.

So, lets not ever talk about how to curb the explosion in population. Lets vilify anyone who does. Lets use Bronze Age ideas to defend an out of control population.

Global Warming is happening. The evidence for that is overwhelming. How much direct effect humankind has on it is up for debate. We many not be predominately responsible for it…but to deny that we have some part, even a small part, is just dumb.

Our impact on the environment can not be denied. Bill Nye is not a Nazi. I do not agree with all he says. I will not jump on a bandwagon and vilify everything he supports.

The only education I have ever claimed online is a GED. Following the reasoning of this thread…my opinion is worth much less than Nye’s.

“Human Caused” climate change due to CO2 emissions and many other emissions is a fact. Its not even up for debate. The stretch people like Nye make is that it is the main cause of Global Warming.

My problem with posts like this is they tend to swing the discussion in the polar opposite direction. We need to deal with a changing environment, regardless of who or what caused the change.

People who deny that climate change is happening are either ignorant or suffer from cognitive dissonance. I dont think we should lock them up, but we do not need them making policy about something they deny exists.

If “governments” do not make policy to curb the exploding population…who does? I guess we just stick out head in the sand and pretend it is not happening…like climate change.

Freedom is messy. It also has limits.

This is ridiculous. Here’s a clue: the Earth’s soil releases nine times more CO2 into the atmosphere than humans do.

Study finds limited sign of soil adaptation to climate warming

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/11/161114162228.htm

Date: November 14, 2016
Source: Marine Biological Laboratory
Summary:
While scientists and policy experts debate the impacts of global warming, Earth’s soil is releasing roughly nine times more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere than all human activities combined. This huge carbon flux from soil — due to the natural respiration of soil microbes and plant roots — raises one of the central questions in climate change science. As the global climate warms, will soil respiration rates increase, adding even more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and accelerating climate change?

Go that? You want population control? Stop having sex.

The story was not about global this or that, it was about Nye’s arrogant ass shit and what he said on that TV panel broadcast. He’s an ass. His mother should have swallowed. A vinegar douche on her part might have saved us the annoyance of having to listen to his ego-driven shit.

This planet’s climate changes all the time. The next change will be back to an ice age. Period. That’s the cycle, based on geology, geophysoics and geography, not some faked-ass numbers drawn up to get tax-based grant money by a bunch of greedy, conceited assholes. with their hands out for more.

When advances in birth control came about, women had some choice in the matter. Women were no longer breeding stock.

Global birth control will elevate woman who are currently being treated as breeding stock.

We need to control the growth of our population. Particularly cat lovers…we have too many problems as it is. Who needs those weirdos?

If they are being treated as breeding stock, then they are slaves. So, the people that are in control and using them this way are just going to allow the women to use birth control?

Twist

I agree about taking the Old Testament literally and teaching it as scientific fact. I am also of the opinion that one can be religious as well as believe in science. Take the creation story for example, the sequence of events pretty go in the series as science has shown the earth was created. What would be a day to an immortal being? Would a being that made billions of stars and planets decide to go by the 24 hour earth day? Maybe when He was creating animal life he wanted to create and play with dinosaurs for a couple of million years and just got tired of them and made them extinct. He then decided to evolve the remaining life into mammals. He then decided to make Mitochondrial Eve and then sit back for the next 200,000-300,000 years. Another one would be the great flood story. There is no evidence of it being a world wide event, however there is some evidence that there was a great flood in that general area around the end of the last ice age.

As far as over population goes, IMHO sooner or later earth is going to get tired of our shit and fix the problem. I don’t agree with Nye’s authoritarian idea on how to fix it. His idea would only affect those in the United States and would not stop those in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia (I know that the Middle East is in Asia).

I’m sorry Dave, but several of your statements are just not true. For example, world population is not “exploding,” even if it is increasing. Certain regions are experiencing high birth rates, but these flatten out in the long run. Same problem with your claims about feeding people. The issue is political, not mechanical. That is we do grow enough food to feed the world population, but foolish government policies (example: brainless opposition to genetically modified foods just because they’re GM. Ever hear of “golden rice?”) As for “global warming,” do you refer to the measurable, and mild, increase of about 1.5C the past century and a half, or to CAGW? If the former, have you viewed it in context of other large increases and decreases the past few millennia? I cite the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age in evidence. Which reminds me, go read up on the time Prussian Hussars captured Dutch warships on horseback. Apparently the sea was frozen near the coast to the point where the ships were trapped. All of this raises some questions like: what is normal, and are we in fact headed for catastrophe? Which leads us to CAGW. I strongly disagree with the Catastrophic describer, and consider the Anthropogenic element much smaller than claimed. I agree that some warming has occurred, as above. Our impact on the environment can easily be denied, as it hasn’t been accurately determined yet. There’s lots of claims & models out there, but little has been established. In fact the model predictions are consistently several degrees higher than real-world measurements. Bill Nye is not a Nazi in the strict sense of the word. 99% of the people tagged with that aren’t. He is still an intolerant bigot who regularly beclowns himself. I agree with PH-2 that we should allow, nay encourage him to express his views, such as the idea that we should lock up “deniers,” or pass laws on how many babies people should have. I don’t know why you threw that last passive-aggressive comment in. I doubt most of us use that as a… Read more »

Dave Hardin

That was a thoughtful, intelligent, and protracted promulgation. Nearly completely wrong, but I admire your foray into the realm of environmental apologetics.

In no particular order, our impact on the environment is all around us. All to often the use of the term is used to narrowly reference global temperatures. Any airplane ride across the country will show we have plowed up most of the productive land and planted it with non native crops to feed people. We have dammed up rivers, created lakes, drained swamps, created land fills, strip mined, and paved a good portion of the country. To deny that we have had an impact on the environment is non sequitur.

I am not saying that our impact is always or even mostly a bad thing. It just is. Most major rivers in this country have been turned into a series of lakes for navigation purposes. The environmental impact of that is obvious to anyone.

Insofar as the little ice age is concerned, science has traced that events cause to a volcanic eruption. Not if, but when another event like that happens we will not be able to produce food at our current level of production.

Use what ever describer you wish to depict our rise in global population. Either we learn to control the growth of population or nature will do it for us.

I am not sure my last comment was actually passive-aggressive. I often use sarcastic statements to express a position.

Catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is one of those terms created by the piously arrogant in an attempt to establish some kind of faux intellectual superiority.

Atheists are just as full of shit as the rest of the population. I concede that more than our share have participated in the sky is falling diatribe for too long.

My warning is…that does not mean there are not legit environmental concerns that we should be taking action on. Climate change is one of them.

Try this title for him: Bill Nye, the Money-Grubbing Guy.

He’s just jumping on the AGW bandwagon because that’s where the money is. Besides that, he’s completely gross.

Perry Gaskill

Bill Nye is apparently now getting thrown under the bus by a liberal political faction that wants a thoughtful discussion about climate change. In a recent piece in The New Republic to be found HERE, writer Emily Atkin both calls out Nye for his strident posture, and lays out some of what the greens see as the key issues.

In order to buy into Atkin’s arguments for climate change you would have to agree, for example, that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a definitive source of conclusions for the available data, that humans are responsible for at least half of global warming, and that the effects will become “serious” within a few decades. The definition of “serious” being non-specific.

My own view is that there are a lot of politics connected to the climate change issue that have little to do with science. For example, it might not be too much of a stretch to argue that part of what’s driving things are globalists pushing an urbanista agenda. From their perspective, it’s easier to achieve a one-world government if you can shove populations into major cities where they can be observed and controlled like lab rats. The last thing you would want is for them to be armed and wandering all over the place.

Ex-PH2

‘shove the population into major urban cities, etc….’ Wasn’t that the concept behind almost all of the following?

Aldous Huxley ‘A Brave New World’
Purge movie series
Divergent movie series
Soylent Green
Escape From L.A.
Revolt in 2100 (Heinlein)
THX 1138
…and others too numerous to mention.

Perry Gaskill

There was an odd comment made some years ago by William Gibson following the publication of his book Neuromancer which was set in a future dystopia. Gibson said although he wanted to indicate a grim outlook, something he had picked up from contemporary futurists, he was surprised that a lot people wanted things to be that way.

Ex-PH2

Well, then, Perry, where do they expect to get any of the following?

Food, processed or raw, of any kind
Materials to build housing
Clothing for seasonal changes
Clean water for drinking
Heating fuels and refrigeration

Everything that they want requires a massive infrastructure to produce, including the garment industry. Those pink pussy hats they like don’t just appear out of nowhere.

They live on daydreams made out of dust bunnies and pocket lint. They will starve without that infrastructure. I say we should let them starve and go cold and nekkid.

Cut the cities off. See just how long they’d last without that support. (Snerrk!)

Poetrooper

Perry, I think your suggestion of political motivation by urbanist/globalists is spot-on if you will but add the prefix “leftist” to that description. I think that these are people who understand that there is a large segment of mankind in which there exists an ongoing sense of impending doom, which I call the Chicken Little Syndrome, and they are seeking to exploit it for their own gain in wealth and power.

That constant sense of looming crisis that inflicts so many may well be attributable to the vestigial remains of an animalistic sixth sense that we sometimes see exhibited in feral creatures and even some domestic pets today. The problem for modern man is that the genetic “sense” is still fully operative in some folks while the threat of a quick death as a food source is long departed, leaving them with a genetic capability in search of a problem, thus their Chicken Little Syndrome.

Perry Gaskill

You’re making my brain hurt again, Poe. This stuff can get off into some deep philosophical weeds.

I understand what you’re saying about atavistic instincts. Call the Chicken Little outlook a remnant of a time when primates became self-aware enough to communicate the concept of a boogie man. Such a thing, one could argue, later led to formal religions and ideas such as predestination. Which in turn led to latter-day rejections of religion in favor of philosophies such as existentialism. You are what you make of yourself, you’re not a life-long victim of fate.

I more-or-less get that. What’s less clear is why it is now that a progressive movement on the left side of things would exist in an almost perpetual state of victimhood. You might think the political polarity would be just the opposite because conservatives tend to be more religious. Is it because liberals created a void that needed an atavistic instinct filled, but is channeled in a weird direction?

Or is it a matter of those pushing progressive buttons using atavistic fears among the population to get what they want?

Ex-PH2

Maybe it’s both, Perry.

How many invasion from space movies have been made since motion pictures were invented? Invasion fears and ‘being hunted’ fears go back into time as far as human history exists. Chimpanzees hunt and kill some members of another tribe of chimps. It is not unique to humans.

A state of victimhood somehow fills and emotional need, the atavistic instinct of being hunted, and yeah, it is being cosseted and pushed in a peculiar direction because no one is persecuting the people who are claiming victimhood.

It’s sort of similar to a schoolyard bully who pokes and slaps the other kids so that they’ll turn on him and beat him up, and then claim that they were picking on him when, in fact, he was the instigator.

Ex-PH2

I think the term you’re looking for is ‘martyrdom’, Perry. Means the same thing as ‘victimhood’, but is a stronger term and more to the point.

2/17 Air Cav

There must not be any climate change doubters. We’re all, instead, labeled “deniers.” As for gov’t-enforced limitations on the number of children a couple can have, that is just sick. How about we start with the infirm, the feeble minded, and the aged? They all eat and use precious resources. Let’s move from there to criminals and the parasites who are at least 25 and never held a job for longer than a few months, if that. They can be the executioners and, if we ever run out of people to rid ourselves of in order to save the whales/planet/whatever, the executioners get theirs. When discussions begin about thinning the herd, count me out. I want no part of that.

Ex-PH2

In my pompous-assed view, those who want the herd to be thinned should be thinned out first.

Then we can all go back to what we were doing in peace.

Twist

The ones that want to thin the herd never believe that they could be the ones being thinned.

Ex-PH2

Of course not. It conflicts with their false sense of superiority.

thebesig

Climate change is happening, the disagreement is with man made global warming. The regressives have hijacked the term “climate change” and used it instead of using “man-made global warming”. What we are allegedly denying is runaway global warming.

Those of us that do not agree with man-made global warming are not “deniers”, we are climate realists.

Ex-PH2

Geography’s wrong for ‘runaway’ anything. The last possible episode that MIGHT have occurred was when all the continents formed a supercontinent called Pangaea, which had a central mountain rage (Hercynian Mts) and CO2 levels were 25 times what they are now. And there is no evidence that runaway anything occurred. Antarctica was much further north than it is now, and it still had snow.

The uses of hyperbolic terms such as ‘runaway’ and ‘point of no return’, ‘escalating’, etc., etc., etc., is something that the dimwitted media mavens can latch onto and they do so, because it sells. It has shock value, so it sells.

Anyone who says or actually believes that the oceans will ‘boil away’ has no understanding of geophysics or physics or chemistry. But they sure do know how to stir up people’s emotions, don’t they?

So, he reapplied. And NASA said, “No!” Bill Nye finally got the message and did not again apply.

I’d probably be more right than wrong were I to guess they were along the lines of folks 500 years ago who thought the world was flat and that Earth was the center of the universe.

Maybe Billy-Boi here wants to act as the church/state and find him another Giordano Bruno to burn at the stake for heresy?
