More change for the Inauguration

| January 17, 2009

The other day I wrote how the homeless population that normally grazes through the tourists on Pennsylvania Avenue are in for a real treat at their shelters on Inauguration day. Well DC government is now concerned about the prostitutes plying their trade during the Hope and Change of the next few days;

District police have placed signs along 5th and I Streets. They read, “Warning, Prostitution Free Zone.” Those who disobey could be fined 300 dollars, and even jailed. But will the city’s plan work?

DC City Councilman Jim Graham said officers cannot enforce loitering laws, which is the reason for these signs.

“Because this is focused, its limited in time, its aimed at a very specific issue, if you don’t move along, well put you in the car,” he said.

John Thompson lives in the neighborhood, and he said prostitution is a major problem. He hopes the signs make a difference, but what will visitors think?

“I’m not concerned with what visitors think. I’m concerned about the problem that exists,” Thompson said.

Yeah, the problem exists because DC police are forbidden to enforce loitering laws in the District – that’s why we have a homeless problem and a prostitute problem. See that’s what liberalism has done to DC. The police are forbidden to do the jobs they’re hired to do, and now the District is ashamed of what the city has become.

It’s OK for the taxpayers to wander through the crowds of prostitutes and panhandlers, but not the tourists, I suppose. So we get sporadic enforcement – and enforcement in the form of signs. Given the District’s record on education, I’m sure a sign probably isn’t going to deter any crimes. But, hey, like any other city run by liberals, as long as they can collect a fat fine and look as if they’re well-intentioned, that’s all that matters. That’s why they put up signs and cameras all over the District as reminders of how readily they’ll spend our tax money without solving the actual problem.

So if they are labeling all these areas “Prostitute Free Zone”, does that include politicians? 🙂

Birds of a feather, like…..

I’m sensing a lot of anti-tourist resentment in some of your posts. Are you the spokesman for Harry Reid?

Frankly Opinionated

Work this out for me– If “Prostitution Free Zone” means it is illegal to work as a prostitute in this area; does it then mean that it is legal to work as a prostitute in any area not so zoned? I thought that the whole area was already a “Prostitution Free Zone”……….

Cool! FREE POSTITUTES. They could have worked though and donated their earnings to the cause.

Interesting how during the RNC the media carped about all the extra hookers that were coming to town, yet hookers in DC are so commonplace that they are normally accepted, outside of the One’s inauguration, of course.

Dave,

The hookers are just doing their part to help our Congress Critters. Leadership by example, don’t ya know, eh?

LT Nixon

Harry Reid doesn’t like the way they smell, I just don’t like ‘em. As far as I’m concerned, Reid is a tourist, too – one who has overstayed his welcome.

Youch! I used to live in Hollywood, so I know all about the fanny-packed throngs of tourists. When me and my mother were at the Natl Archives we should’ve looked you up and asked a bunch of idiotic questions about why the Declaration of Independence didn’t have cartoons to accompany it.

Lt. Nixon, not to worry about the Declaration of Independence, the Obamunist says we need a new one! I have no idea what he thinks we need another, new one for, neither does he, but it must have sounded good to him and MO.

It’s only gonna get worse. Notice how in certain circles, there’s a push to emulate Eurabia? Lately, there have been Moslem riots in Al-Britanistan, the British Bolshevik Communications network won’t cover them, and the Brit cops have “cut and run” from the rioting Mohamedians. Just wait ‘n’ see how the Police Force gets emasculated and “sensitised” as the days go by.
