Close Encounter
Your Shot photographer Matthew Smith photographed this stunning close-up of a newly hatched hawksbill turtle in the Bismarck Sea. He said, “Elders in the villages of Northern Papua New Guinea told me of the sad decline in numbers of these turtles, noticeable in their lifetime. A small project has been set up there on the island of Lissenung to educate locals about the vulnerability of these animals and to protect nests from poachers.”

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
Read it and weep, ye mere mortals!
Congrats, I am in awe….
Wow you let Mick off easy….must be because he’s been begging for the boom on every post on the site for weeks now…..
He didn’t congratulate me Mick…I think he used a different word….hmmm, if only I could remember what it was….
Thanks for setting me straight VOV, what the fuck was I thinking?
Mick, #1 Cocksucker for winning the WOT.
Oh shit.
INCOMING!!!
(dives for cover)
KaBlam!
I now hand the scepter and crown of WOT First to MICK!!
*bows*
/I was busy dealing with work and personal shit.
Thank you, kind sir.
Excuses excuses…
First!
FIRST!
Numba 4! Which makes me what, 3rd loser?
*grin*
Since I did the proper format of all caps, I here by claim the official first! Judges???
WW. Don’t even bother filing an appeal on that. You win not because of caps or punctuation, neither of which is required, but because your declaration appears before ex-OS2’s. You should be grateful b/c if caps and punctuation mattered, you would have been second at a time of 1:03, with ex-OS2 the winner at 1:02.
Wait. Now that I have my glasses on, I see that Mick was first. Oops. Good thing I didn’t make an entry earlier in the Book of Firsts.
Mick, followed by first loser ex-OS2 and the show horse, Wilted Willy.
Seventh … not bad. Not great, but not bad.
Top Ten….
The way this week has been going I’ll take it…
Dang
I hope you all have a great weekend! I go in next Tuesday for cataract surgery, I can’t believe how fast my eye sight went away! Wish me luck??
Luck WW.
Fortunately, they’ve gotten real good at that type of surgery. The Mrs has had it done and recovered quite well.
Thanks Graybeard! I look forward to watching TV again!
You are going to be happily surprised with the results. I’m 20/20 now after mine. Don’t even need reading glasses.
Mad Dog 20/20?sarc
Sure, if by “Mad Dog” you mean Multifocal Diffractive Aspheric Intraocular.
*grin*
So you don’t need my offer of a seeing-eye cat, after all?
Thanks Ex, I can always use another kitty! I love them all. I have an attack cat already, it will tear the limbs off of any poser caught in the open!
My right is better now after the surgery WW than it was the day I was born, so if you have a good surgeon you’ll be quite happy when it’s done….I had a TORIC implant put as a replacement lens…the result has been phenomenal especially since a great deal of my livelihood depends on my ability to parse and correct the color spectrum for clients….
Best of luck to you!
Thanks VOV, I used to be legally blind before I had Lasik years ago. I was 20/15 in both eyes before a couple of months ago! I hope I get that back. I am going for the blended vision that should be good for both up close and distance?
WW I am sure if that’s what they suggested you’ll be fine, I chose intermediate due my work requirements and the simple fact my left eye has no cataracts and requires a corrective lens…so I take my glasses off indoors at my business and wear them for driving typically…
Best to you, Willy.
Thank you Sir!!
tgere os noyhing wring with ny eyedight thsnl goofness. Simtinea I qear hladded and someyimea I don”y. Ir’s a bledding I huess.
I had both eyes done, before I was 50. The results were immediate. They kept me anesthetized but not unconscious and I could see the whole procedure from the eye that was being improved.
Hope your procedure comes out as good as mine did. It was painless and fast.
Whiskey!
More specifically, Bourbon!
Nae, Laddie!
Single malt Scotch!
Aye!
No nae never!
Irish! Jameson’s preferably!
Bushmill’s for the win!
The Glenlivet
Aultmore of the Foggie Moss
a.k.a. ‘A nip of the Buckie Road’
Another vote for Glenlivet. Might be biased on that one – toured the “factory,” got an appropriate amount of souvenirs, but no T-shirt. The pub at the end of the tour was terrific.
Never could get into Scotch – the smoke/peat component to the taste was IMO far overdone. Irish, on the other hand, IMO got that about right and was quite palatable.
For those who are big Irish whiskey fans . . . prepare to get, um, aroused. (smile)
http://www.celticwhiskeyshop.com/irish-whiskey-home-page/irish-whiskeys-from-a-to-z
And yes, they do also seem to carry Scotch – even if they refer to it as “Scottish whiskey”.
http://www.celticwhiskeyshop.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=2
Unfortunately they’re an Irish site, and I’m guessing they don’t ship to the US (or it will be insanely expensive if they do).
Quiche.
You forgot the “/sarc” tag.
No sarcasm needed if you can whoop up a good quiche!
Second the motion on forgot the “/sarc” tag.
Cause whenever I see or hear quiche, my first thought is it looks and smells like sunbaked three day old coyote puke on a Ritz cracker.
OH, come on, guys. It’s just beaten eggs mixed with half-and-half, poured into a piecrust over layers of shredded cheese and ham or crumbled bacon or whatever your little heart desires, including Lindt chocolate truffles, and then it should be chocolate scrambled eggs instead of regular.
Quiche isn’t food.
Quiche is what food eats./smile
Veggies are what food eats.
Mmmmmmm, Porter House steak….
I like pie!
*grin*
MEAT, especially red, is what I refer to as “Recycled Vegetation” when I mention it to veggie-heads!
Will it make you lost souls happier if I just call it egg-and-bacon pie?
Some people are just so pickety pickety picky.
Mine are usually egg/ham/spinach/cheese pies*.
If it’s good enough for Julia Child, it’s more than good enough for me.
*don’t do the crust- baking is far too specific for me.
Oh, nice! Just in time for my foray into ketogenic dieting. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Throw in some onions and maybe some fried potatoes and bacon & egg pie (with o without the crust) is just about perfect food. Fine if some consider it unmanly to eat it. Leaves more for me.
Will somebody please pass that pie? I’m HUNGRY!
Oh, yeah. Make it in a skillet on the stovetop or in a deep dish casserole, with or without the crust. I’m home.
Top ten again.
In other news – I get to don the old Scout-leader uniform (it shrunk, somehow) and sing around a campfire tonight.
Forecast is clear night skys with temps in the mid-50’s. With the moon near full, the astronomy will be a tad bit limited, but it should be nice, nonetheless.
Get away from the fire. Check Accuweather for moonrise time where you are. You can still see a lot of stars and planets if the sky is clear. Scorpio should be rising in the south now.
Truth be told, the sky probably has less light-pollution from my house in the woods than from the Scout camp on a hill outside a town. On the other hand, being on a central-Texas hill rather than in the East Texas Pineywoods, we can see more constellations at once.
When the moon rises, the songdogs may decide to serenade us.
As I understand the schedule, we’ll be leading singing-around-the-fire for some the participants, while the others are at astronomy. Round-robin style. There may or may not be other stations.
I’m not in charge of this one, so I’m sketchy on details. I just show up with my instruments and sing.
Some day, take them all over to the McDonald Observatory near Marfa. There’s a visitor center there and they have an online schedule of stuff going on for visitors.
We took our Venturing Crew over there once. Add Old Fort Davis in the mix, with the Marfa lights, swing by Carlsbad and you have a trip.
With time, drop by Alamagordo for the space museum, add White Sands National Monument, and you’ve got a fun couple of weeks. (Not to mention the cool mountains E of Alamagordo.)
Did you usta be a ___critter___, too?
This just in: the DRG will be working hobo balls this weekend behind the dumpster at the local truck stop.
The DRG has a court date May 11th in Kansas City Missouri. Yesterday Judge Steele started downloading and going through 1100 pages of shit pertaining to the case (to be clear this is shit that the DRG DOESN’T want to be seen)
To say he is unhappy with Berdturd and Witless is an understatement
1100 PAGES?!?!? Holy mother of God!
Hopefully, there will be a jail cell waiting for those two felching ass hamsters…
That’s 125 pages just shy of War and Peace. It’s probably not even as coherently and cogently written as War and Peace.
I feel as though I should send the good judge a copy of War and Peace, or at least one good video of a Chekhov play, as compensation for his performing the unendurable task of reading that doonboggle and putting up with the troop of crazypants crackpots that produced it.
Pity the poor fellow! If only we could reincarnate Judge Roy Bean!
I was wondering if any of them were sampling Kansas City BBC (Big Bulbous Cock) in the lockup.
Soon, DRG. Very soon….
18tenthteen!
Top Twenty and I once again lay claim to Honorary First.
By the way Russia’s words best S300 IADS system looks like a utter failer at shooting/detecting down Cruz missiles. I bet Iran and others are looking to Putin for a refund about now.
I read a book many moons ago that was written by a former Russian Officer that thoroughly described how the Soviets basically had a paper tiger for a military and counted on numbers, bluster and hiding it’s weaknesses to keep the West scared.
One of the things he covered was how shocked Russian Officers were when the Israelis reduced the state- of-the-art Soviet made Aircraft, Tanks and other equipment to junk.
They tried to explain it away by saying the Arabs were just shit soldiers and the equipment was the export versions that were not the best quality.
While this certainly had something to do with it ( and Western military experts gave weight to this) the Russians knew in the back of their minds the west had better gear.
Present! sebentyfifteenth!
Hey we are house hunting in the PDS area of SV,
Slept through it. One of my group needed to fly today from Houston and since Delta HOSED up the week in airplanes (according to their umpteenth rebook I should still be stuck in Atlanta till tomorrow night) we drove overnight from Atlanta to Houston. Made the outbound flight….but I’m too old for this shit and had to sleep this morning. Can’t do this kind of nonsense on a whim any more without paying for it. At least it was my last flight on Delta.
That’s a long drive for us “experienced” types, David. Glad you made it ok.
The only good I’ve heard about any airline lately is SouthWest. I’ve not flown in more than 20 years. I’ll schedule the extra days to drive instead.
At least they didn’t misplace your luggage. Hack landed at undisclosed airport in Southeast Asia, but his luggage didn’t. After travelling about 40 hours across the globe, he was smelling like a Vice President of a proud woman owned business. With no clothes, he had to go to a local shopping mal, and their Extra Large is not the same as American Extra Large. And good luck trying to find a spandex tuxedo to fit my ample frame. Fortunately, the luggage did catch up with me about two days later. My quest to recover Elaine Ricci continues. Details to follow…
Captain Columbo, Marine poseur may have some clues. I’ve been hanging out there.
42rd!
Holy Cow !!!!!
I’m ready for a V-8 with vodka
Long long Week
Well, hell. Eleventy-umpteenth, again. Oh, well. I’ll just be back here at tail end Charlie.
A Rocky Patel Sun Grown maduro, Italian roast coffee and Clive Cussler keep me company. Happy Friday, y’all
This should make all of you happy. This link http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/07/syrian-jets-take-off-from-air-base-us-missiles-struck-syrian-observatory.html has a satellite photo showing the damage at Shayrat Air Base in Syria.
This just in: per the State Bar of California, Daniel A. Bernath IS STILL DISBARRED.
If anyone is interested, the reason why may be found here.
Yo, Danni-boi:
Too bad, so sad
Sucks to be you
Received your due
Court said, “Screw You . . .
. . . and the horse you rode in on.”
(Note: linked image is possibly NSFW and also is not recommended around prudes, clergy, or children.)
There are a few jail cells and cockmeat sammiches waiting for Bernath, QuEeFeRs and Joe Cryer…
Who is this person you refer to?
What has he done?
Why is this important?
When will he be brought to justice?
And HOW will the final just blow result in the finality of this story?
I am an unfrozen caveman defendant, I know nothing of your rules and procedures.
Don’t worry, it’s like a good game of Calvinball.
We make them up as we go along !!!
We also play a lot of Sneeho here too.
Now THAT is a fun game !!!
Oh, surely, good sir, you’ve heard about this fellow before, haven’t you?
His methods are rife with confusion and psychobabble.
He creates illiterate, incoherent tripe with no substance, out of thin air.
He conjures more imagined wrongs than Tom & Jerry combined.
He refuses to appear, then throws fits when he does appear, and throws appliances at people when he runs from the courtroom.
He’s an unemployable actor with a stuttering, unfulfilled, incomprehensible need for being center stage, but can’t fill the roles he chooses.
He has mug shots somewhere. We could get coffee mugs made, but no one would use them for coffee.
Unfortunately for him, he isn’t as important as he thinks he is.
I’d bet money, guys, that he won’t show up in Kansas City as required.
Verry instringting!
I think that he was referencing this:
Mind if I “Shakespearify” that, Milady?
Oh, surely, valorous sir, you’ve hath heard about this fellow ere, haven’t thee?
His methods art rife with confusion and psychobabble.
that gent maketh illiterate, incoherent tripe with no substance, out of thin air.
that gent conjures more imagined wrongs than Tom & Jerry combined.
that gent refuses to appeareth, then doth toss fits at which hour that gent doest appeareth, and doth toss appliances at people at which hour that gent runneth from the courtroom.
He’s an unemployable actor with a stuttering, unfulfilled, incomprehensible needeth for being center stage, but nay one would’st expend them for coffee.
Unfortunately for him, he isn’t as death-litter as he thinks he be.
I’d wage pelf, guys, that he won’t unbolt up within Kansas City as required.
If he doesn’t, that’s just one more state that’ll have a bench warrant out on his useless old ass.
You’d think a “lawer” would be smarter than this.
👍
James Walls, phony UH-1 pilot still works da balls.
In the top 75, this week.
And the hits just keep on roilin’!!
‘“This morning, Bolivia requested an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting to discuss the events in Syria,” Haley said. “It asked for the discussion to be held in closed session.”
“The United States, as president of the Council this month, decided the session would be held in the open,” Haley said.
“Any country that chooses to defend the atrocities of the Syrian regime will have to do so in full public view, for all the world to hear,” Haley said.’
Oh yeah. New Sheriff, and his Deputies are all on board.
http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2017/04/07/amb-haley-any-nation-that-wants-to-defend-assads-atrocities-will-do-so-in-full-public-view/
Haley keeps kicking ass and taking names. Very impressive.
Saw most of her speech this morning. It was unbelievable. Talk about acting from a position of strength – yeah, she had all that and more.
Ka-BOOM!
Oh, it was not just ‘No’, but ‘Hell, no!’
‘Bout time. Just about time.
AAAhhhhh, having adults in charge again…
Been on the road so this is late, but I saw this earlier in the week and since I know how you all love to support the Air Force, I thought I’d share. IDC SARC already has an S2 digging up her number, I’m sure!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/afghan-war-veteran-becomes-instagram-10132270
Happy weekend, you deplorable types!
I got a ‘403 forbidden code’, LC.
“I got a ‘403 forbidden code'”
I didn’t….
I will pout now.
It’s a … male-oriented page. It was just saving you an eye-rolling. 😉
(Works fine for me too. Try again if you really want to see a hot Air Force woman?)
I’d rather see hot Marine Corps guys.
OK, Ex-PH2 – here ya go! (smile)
Hondo, Frank Sutton was Army. A-R-M-Y. WWII. Different hat. 🙂 <3 <3 <3
I’m wondering what the salad on Sergeant Carter’s chest is.
I was Army so I don’t have a clue about USMC ribbons.
Hell, since I was in right after Vietnam I don’t have a clue about Army ribbons.
Thanks.
Well, the bottom row looks like Korean War and next row up is the gedunk medal. My company commander at boot camp was a Korean War vet. Otherwise, I’m mystified, too.
Here’s the lowdown on GYSGT Carter’s fruit salad:
Top Row: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and USN/USMC Presidential Unit Citation.
Middle Row: USMC Good Cookie, WWII Victory Medal, and NDSM.
Bottom Row: Korean Service Medal, United Nations Korean Service and the ROK Presidential Unit Citation.
See, now, I’m curious about what unit Frank Sutton was in during WWII and where he served. Where do I find out?
Oh! Dave Hardin! Who else is the biggest snoop on the planet?
A little late, but still relevant, so I went and did a little snooping about Frank Sutton. Found this in a couple of different bios:
Enlisted in the Army in 1943 after failing the Marines physical and was assigned to a Joint Assault Signal Company composed of Army and Navy men. Within 18 months he took part in 14 landings in the Pacific, including Leyte, Luzon, Bataan and Corregidor. When the war ended, he was sent to join the occupation forces in Korea. Honorably discharged in 1946 as a Sergeant. It was said the Bronze Star and Purple Heart worn while playing his role on Gomer Pyle were the real deal.
Hope I helped and didn’t steal too much of Dave Hardin’s thunder.
Thank you, Claw!
John Giduck – the turd with a face!
Not an authentic powerful turd either…the cheap plastic fake kind like you’d buy at a rest stop novelty shop.
I wonder if Giduck is boasting of Russian intelligence contacts now? Other than to choke down their sweaty, vodka soaked love muscles….
I wonder if he still actually believes that he was in Beslan “just after the assault”. He likely does…just as LTC Dave Grossman believes that he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. It may not be true but the suckers buy it.
Woo Hoo! Number 100 or so. Totally occupied by the desires of our new DA wanting to completely remake the organization.
Haven’t seen any comments in a couple of months, so:
3/17 Air Cav – Commo Check. Are you on freq?
Inquiring minds want to know.
In checking the residents list at Sheriff Grady Judd’s Polk County, Florida Hospitality House, is seems that Stolen Valorist Kyle Christopher Barwan may have made bail. I was all set to send him a package of Gummi Penis chews.
I’m gonna take a guess, Frankie, and say taht the boys at the Polk County poundhimintheass hospitality house (home of the Polk County BTJT Deli Franchise) have made Kyle Barwan’s two-hole so loose a Mack truck can do thru it… with plenty of clearance!
Wonder who he scammed out of bail money?
Aha! I was mistaken. I must have made a wrong entry in the search. He is still there.
Serial Poser/Stolen Valorist Kyle Christopher Barwan is nearing 11 weeks in the Polk County Florida jail. He is experiencing the consequences of his actions, even before the trial.
I can send him a bag of Gummi Penis chews.
Not even in the top 100, but oh well…
Yo, Dennis Chevalier….when you coming to prove your points from four years ago?? I am still waiting on your sorry ass to bring it to the Pineywoods on your way to buying large amounts of jelly and cheese in Jefferson. Bring your papers, or are they still drying from a non-existent flood??
Or just do one better, STFU AND GFY!!!
The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) works balls.
Lots of balls.
Dear Danni-boi,
Cmon, be honest. You’re not leaving the country, are ya? Are you SERIOUSLY considering being an FTA on your next court date? Another jurisdiction that has a bench warrant out for you?
Ya know, any good lawyer will tell you running never works.
But then, you were never a good lawyer. Or good at much else, either. I’d say take your punishment like a man, but the next time you act like a man will be the first time.
On the stove, a big pot with lid ajar sits, with aromatic steam wafting over. What’s in it?
Green beans, red potatoes, ham, some left over pork BBQ, a shallot, herbs and pepper, all simmering away in chicken broth.
Crusty bread&butter and chilled wine to go with.
Now I’m getting hungry!
Interesting story on Instapundit about a California professor calling for the execution of President Trump:
http://dailycaller.com/2017/04/07/professor-trump-must-hang-republicans-should-be-executed-for-each-immigrant-deported/?utm_campaign=thedcmainpage&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social
Note the name, is this *the* Lars we are so familiar with? Sounds like his schtick.
No, that’s not him.
Lars Maischak lectures at Fresno.
Commissar is in Berkley and he doesn’t do any lecturing unless he shows up here.
Wow, such hatred of people who have done this Maischak clown no harm. A bullet to the head if we don’t knuckle under? Looks like university is disclaiming his views as being NOT THEIRS.
I’ll believe that when they fire him.
STEVEN JAY PERRINO is back in the Stolen Valor Spotlight again. Apparently some sap is writing a book based on his exploits as a SEAL. Don Shipley is going to give him a pasting.
He was featured on here about 3 years ago when he got sentenced for fraud.

I hate to stuff this here but there’s nowhere else. It’s a scream. Supreme Court Justice Ruth “Older-Than-Dirt” Ginsburg has ruled, informally, that Senator Lindsey Graham is, in fact a woman. “Let’s hope members of Congress, the members that Allegheny College has already honored — Vice President Joe Biden and Senator John McCain, the women of the Senate, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Lindsey Graham — let’s hope that they and others of goodwill will lead in restoring harmonious work ways.” Here’s the video of it.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/04/11/ruth-bader-ginsburg-confuses-lindsey-graham-for-woman.html
Muhahahahahahahaha!
Age-related dementia is a nasty thing.
Perhaps she should have retired years ago when she had her second cancer surgery. That would have allowed her to enjoy a long retirement.
Speakin’ of which, what happened to her promise of retiring and moving to New Zealand upon President Trump getting elected?
You believed her?
There are some people for whom ‘the dignity of old age’ is just not there.
I’m back, this time to vent. Maryland has a Republican governor. His name is Hogan. I visited his official website today to see what he had to say about the combat death of Marylander Mark De Alencar. There were many press releases posted but none about Mark De Alencar. There was no video clip, no nothing. I also checked on the status of the state flag. It flies at full staff. Maybe that will change tomorrow or the day the Fallen soldier is interred. The chief exec of the county where De Alencar lived ordered the county flag to half mast. And that’s where I learned that Hogan dod not forget a native son. On the very dignified and highly respected FACEBOOK!, he left a message of condolence–or his aide did. Nice. Real nice. The SOB.
