Russian fighters buzz US destroyer
Virginian-Pilot publishes the Navy videos of the USS Porter, a Rota, Spain-based guided missile destroyer that was conducing operations near Greece last month when it was buzzed by Russian Su-24 attack aircraft and an IL-38 maritime patrol aircraft.
Russian ships and aircraft have repeatedly come into close contact with their U.S. counterparts in recent years, but February’s incident was the first the U.S. Navy has publicly acknowledged since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Since the episode with the Porter, a Russian spy ship has been spotted operating in international waters off the East Coast of the United States.
Thanks to Mick for the link.

They need to work on the efficiency of their engines….looks like they borrowed some old J-52’s from the F-4 and A-6’s at the boneyard.

SMOKE TRAILS!?! We need to send Vlad a strongly worded message regarding the use of green fuels!
Geez, could that idiot learn to use a tripod?
How come no one in the crew was mooning the Russians? I’m so disappointed in the Navy. It’s gone too far into the PC zone.
Anybody who sailed in The Cold War Era has seen their fair share of Russkies, and yes, we mooned them more than once.
We had our own F-14’s buzz us more then they did…a little rivalry between Helo & Fixed wing pilots I was told Air Det OIC. He wasn’t impressed as “Pfff, any knucklehead can fly fast in a straight line. I’d like to see them fly backwards like a -46”
Mooning!? That might result in a pregnancy in today’s Navy.
Khuyesos’.
Da!
KA-BLAM-OVICH!!!
KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM-SKI!!!
LMFAO!
KaBlam!
Secondary explosions.
Xуесосs’
DOOMED I say !!!
Like the old joke about the Amish fella telling a house burglar “thou art standing in the spot at which I am about to discharge my shotgun” maybe some air bursts ahead of their flight path should discourage such behavior? Divert or get filled full of nasty holes, Boris… (hey, I can dream!)
I’ve been on many a mission where the P-3C I was flying in would “rig” ships of interest; fly close aboard at 200 feet, taking intell photos with the 70mm format Agiflite camera system. The window behind the pilot was actually a lens, and we would take our photos from there.
Yeah, compared to the shit I experienced on P-3’s and EP-3’s, this is really MEH.
As long as the Rooskies don’t do any dangerous maneuvers, have at it. Gives us some tracking practice.
I forgot to mention the part where, at the aft observer’s station, the Ordie had dropped his flight suit and was “pressing ham” on the observer’s window. Also known as a “Cracked Window Maneuver.”
Can’t take an Ordie anywhere, God love ’em.
*grin*
Well, at least they got a free show.
According to the article, the Russian aircraft were neither ‘squawking’ (transponders on) nor talking when they approached the USS PORTER, which is dangerous and stupid for any number of reasons.
In a situation like this, all it would take to trigger a very dangerous incident would be for a Russian pilot to get a bit too aggressive, go nose on and press in too close to the ship, and then take an SM-2 in the face when the ship was compelled to defend itself against a perceived attack.
After that, kids, it would be ‘game on’, and it’d be very difficult to dial it back.
“Since the episode with the Porter, a Russian spy ship has been spotted operating in international waters off the East Coast of the United States.”
It is my understanding that the ship had been in the general of Cuba long before Trump took office. It has also been around before, more than once. It has an air defense system. BFD. Good luck with that Olga.
Russians buzzing ships, Navy has a pregnancy problem.
Is there a relationship?
The truth is out there…way out there! LOL
The sailors are probably joking they just saw broke ass economy Russia’s air force – basically all of it. Yeah, and why even get in a shoot out. The Ruskkies are pretty much drinking themselves to death & not making very many babies.
We’ve been hull teching and rigging their boats for years, so turnabout if fair play.
The step brief before a flight included a current intel brief that showed the latest locations of AGIs from our good friends the Russian Bears.
The ship has CWIS, right?
Buzz back!
Well, more like
“BBLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWP!”
Than “Buzz”, but it works for me.
