Dickin_Medal

This weekend’s open thread is brought to you by one of our countless nameless ninjas who sends us a link to information about the Dickin Medal;

In 1917 Maria Dickin founded an animal charity People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) in the United Kingdom. During WWII she introduced the Dickin Medal which honors the bravery and devotion to duty of animals in wartime. The medal is considered to be the animal equivalent of the British Victoria Cross. Recipients of the award have included pigeons, dogs, horses, and a cat.

I love this part.

Law School: Southwestern Univ SOL; Los Angeles CA

So, let’s take a look at this esteemed corner of academia.

Current Rankings: Smart Rank #149
Why Is Southwestern Law School Ranked #149?

StartClass has developed a ranking system for law schools by combining expert rankings with the statistics relevant to the quality of the institution and how it prepares graduates. The following breakdown explains how this school stacks up against all other law schools.

Above Average (This is the ONLY above average rating.) Median Scholarship Amount: $16,882 (top 45%)

Below Average

Acceptance Rate: 59.4% (bottom 45%)
Median LSAT: 152 (bottom 45%)
Median UGPA: 3.17 (bottom 30%)
Bar Pass Rate: 56.1% (bottom 10%)
Bar Pass Rate vs. Same State Peers: -10.0% (bottom 20%)
Employment Rate: 65.0% (bottom 10%)
Students Receiving Scholarships: 42% (bottom 20%)
Student-Faculty Ratio: 17:1 (bottom 45%)
Attrition (1L + 2L): 21.8% (bottom 30%)

So it’s about the equivalent of the “Hollywood Upstairs Law School”, just like Dr. Nick’s medical school is on the Simpsons.

So then Dannie, so much for all the Oxford Law School bullshit and the Photoshop picture of you in the wig.

So try to emember Bernath, Photoshop…is NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!!

RIP would be the slogan initials for Bernutless’ canine school of rescue dogs, standing for “Rescues In Peril”, and having a zero, nada, clean slate, of ever having a successful rescue. You know, sorta like flying when you know the fuel tanks have less than the minimums in fuel, never a good thing, never a successful flight.

Yep, Damned near 76 years old and doing shit that disbarred lawyers 10 years younger than me haven’t been able to do for 20 years. On Wednesday, between 0900 and 0915 Central Time, I was given new life, and the new ability to once again JOG. Yep, even better than some worn out old turds can do when leaving the drop zone. And, while I was jogging, I didn’t have any problems hearing the quietest of birds chirping, as they celebrated their new day. No tinnitus problems, able to hear quite well. God done with that first jog, and, as usual, peeing off my cup of cuban coffee, in the natural method was no problem. No need to rely on a catheter, able to just stand and whiz it off in a down wind direction. While out jogging I got a phone call from a friend, inviting me to take a plane ride to visit another of our friends. I didn’t even feel the need to ask him if he was fueled up, or if he would be doing a pre-flight inspection, checking for water in the fuel sump, or even if his airplane was up to date on its inspections. He recently passed his bi-annual flight review with flying colors. Life is good, Folks.

I don’t jog, but I love to get out in the National Forest (just behind my house) and hike. Life is sweet. Glad to hear the after-action report of the day.

“Islam has been woven into the fabric of our country since its founding.” July 2015

“[W]e have to reject any attempt to stigmatize Muslim-Americans, and their enormous contributions to our country and our way of life.” March 2016

“Throughout our history, Islam has contributed to the character of our country, and Muslim Americans, and their good works, have helped to build our nation — and we’ve seen the results. “ January 2016

“Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. July 2014

“I also know that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.” June 2009

“Islam has always been part of America.” February 2016

All of those are oBaMa quotes. I’m sure that there are others with similar sentiment and content but they will do. Now, the legislature of the land of fruits and nuts has taken a page from the Gospel according to Baracka and declared August 2016 to be Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. The resolution points out, in part, that “WHEREAS, The history of Islam in this country dates back to before its founding, originating with African slaves who brought their Muslim beliefs with them to the Americas and who later contributed in numerous ways to the founding of the nation….” The link follows. In the next part, I will take a look-see at this utter bullshit by sharing some US history.

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201520160HR59

Ex-PH2

African slaves brought voudoun to this country, not Islam. That is bullshit, plain and simple.

2/17 Air Cav

The first building built as a mosque in the United States dates to 1729. No, that’s 1789. I mean 1829. Cripes. I’m getting there…It was built in 1929. (Hey, that IS a significant year in US history. Don’t tell me. No, it couldn’t be.) Anyway, that mosque was erected in Ross, North Dakota by a group of Syrian-Lebanese Muslims. It fairly crumbled from lack of use and was rebuilt by one of last Muslims remaining in Ross in 2005. Meanwhile, the oldest synagogue still standing in the US dates to 1763. But that was long after the first Jewish community arrived here and set up shop in….…wait…….1654. As for Catholics, the first church was built in Florida in 1565 and the first Mass (also in Florida) was celebrated in 1559.

So what, you ask? So nothing. Just setting the table.

2/17 Air Cav

There are many sources of information about Muslims in US history available on the net. Many repeat one another and some provide inflated, slanted, agenda-driven information. Wiki, for instance, overlooks that the slave who organized others against a possible British attack by sea was a plantation overseer and that the conclusion that he was Muslim is traced to nothing more than his Muslim-sounding name. So, I looked at a couple of academic sources, for one a textbook, published in 2010, entitled, “Encyclopedia of Muslim-American History.” It was written by a professor with impeccable credentials. What is striking is that the early US Muslims he cites—the ones everyone seems to cite—are very few and far between and are guessed to have been Muslims, again, by their names. And Muslim, as we know, is not a nationality but a religion. Thus, nearly all of those who arrived here from Africa, for instance, voluntarily or as slaves, ceased to practice their religion and, instead, became Christians. So, I ask you, is someone who is presumed to have been Muslim, due to continent of origin or name, but who later becomes a Christian, a Muslim in 2016 for purposes of recognizing Muslim contributions to the USA? (Utensils are down. Plates and glasses to follow.)

2/17 Air Cav

Before the Revolutionary War, the Muslims in the US were almost exclusively not Muslims at all or former Muslims. Virtually all were slaves, some 30,000 of them, snatched from their West African huts by fellow Muslims and sold to slave traders. At least one became a slave trader himself. Two slaves—one later freed—are known to have remained Muslim. The first was likely known to have been a Muslim by virtue of his marriage to a fellow slave in 1794, a woman recorded as a having been a Baptist. (I wonder how that Muslim/Baptist combo worked out.) The second, later freed by his Maryland owners, was one Yarrow Mamout, who bought a house in what is now Georgetown, died in 1823, and was buried in his own garden. The point I am making is that there were so few known or suspected Muslims that those who did nothing of note whatsoever are noted! In short, until the 1780s, Muslims were a nonentity in the United States. Things then changed, but not for the better. Muslim states on the Barbary Coast engaged in the taking of US merchant ships, holding ships and crews for ransom. What ensued were the Barbary Wars, forgotten but for the USMC hymn that references the shores of Tripoli. It was an ugly time and, truth be told, the accounts of that era could have been written today, with crime against innocents defended by a Muslim ambassador quoting the Koran, and jeering crowds, condemning the Christian dogs (i.e., sailors) as they were paraded through the streets.

Final installment: Without any other contributions from Muslims to early US history, perhaps some can be found in military matters…

2/17 Air Cav

How many Muslims fought in the Civil War? The Encyclopedia of Muslim-American History offers this: “Some 292 Muslim-sounding last names appear in troop listings for the Civil War; at least 10 fight in the Confederate Army, and four serve in the Union Army.” I have no idea what the other 278 were doing, but it gave me a laugh to see that 10/4 breakdown. I wonder if oBaMa know s about the certain contribution of those 10!

There were influxes of Muslim immigrants to this country, a spurt here and a spurt there between the Civil War and World War II, but this matter that I have spent this time examining has nothing to do with that time frame or later. The California legislature, the President of the United States, and every Lefist this side of the Kremlin, not to mention CAIR, like to give us flowery, conclusory statements about the contributions of Muslim to the establishment and formation of theses United States. What little there is isn’t worth mentioning. The Chinese did much more building a RR, opening laundries and, later, a whole lotta restaurants. In conclusion, this myth is BUSTED.

Thanks for the space, Jonn!

David

Considering that the bulk of the slave trade was run by, or facilitated by, Muslims in the role of Arab slave traders?

Naming anyone’s nationality based on their name is pretty risky. lots of names are ambiguously spelled, many are assumed to come from areas unrelated to the name or we just don’t know. Take the English sounding name Park – how many Koreans are named Park? Chinese named Lee? etc. Many of those “muslim’ names could come from anywhere else in the region, or even be Jewish in origin – the difference between some Jewish and some Arab names are just minor spelling differences, and we all know spelling was a lot more free-wheeling in the 17th and 18th centuries than now. Lastly, we KNOW there was a strong Jewish element in the new world – many Jews emigrated west from Spain to escape the Inquisition (for an example of how they helped change our history – Jews helped the English lay their hands on many of the islands to keep the Spanish from bringing in the Inquisition.) There’s a real entertaining book calls “Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean” detailing this.

ex-OS2

I am curious how sending rattlesnakes to England are offensive to the person who filed this complaint to the EEOC.

Ex-PH2

Let’s see if I understand this.

Shelton D, the self-centered attention whoring moron, is offended by a picture of a snake on a color background. He is unaware of or refuses to acknowledge that the very symbol he objects to was adopted by the LGBT crowd almost immediately after the Orlando nightclub shooting, with the motto ‘Shoot back!’ blazoned on a rainbow-colored flag.

Well, it really appears that Shelton D. just wants to be offended and probably doesn’t like white paper or white cardboard cracker boxes, either and I don’t give a shit. At some point, people have to say ‘Enough, already!’ and move on. I think Shelton D is mostly looking for cash as well as attention. If it was so important, why did it take him this long to bring it up?

The one thing I noticed is that the writer of that article disputes Shelton D’s opinion and attitude, and also, that there was a WaPo article following Shelton D’s complaint that says bodaprez is still up to his old tricks, bypassing Congress on the nukey deal, which the author thinks is a really, really bad idea.

This is childish.

HMC Ret

Yes, childish but also very serious. Yet another example of liberal pussies being offended by damn near everything, and demanding those not offended be banned from exercising their rights to speech and expression. The liberals are all about free speech and expression, provided they agree with both what is said and who says it. Remember, this is the professional victim, perpetually offended crowd. What is happening is long past being classified as insanity. Such action is actually destroying this country by constantly chipping away the rights of individuals to express themselves. I’m thinking 2 years in service to country, either in the military or otherwise, might instill a sense of maturity and responsibility to the pussified population who are offended by damn near everything. Maybe they should be exposed to life outside their safe space. Yeah, I know, maybe not a popular concept, but would the country benefit by this service? I’m thinking yes. Just a thought from an old man tired of the foolishness so prevalent in the nation.

Ex-PH2

Well, you do have to take into account that these squalling brats are people who do not go outdoors unless they are forced to, do not spend any real time outside a closed environment including their cars, and who do not want the responsibility of being real adults. They are also the people who are walking into bad neighborhoods in pursuit of the ‘rare’ PokeMon critters and getting beaten and robbed.

They may be physically and legally adults, but they are entrenched in a closed world. Hence, the need for a ‘safe space’, which as you indicate is a clear sign of complete lunacy.

They have a bitter awakening coming to them. Remember that post about the intern who got fired, along with all but a couple of others, because they didn’t think they should have to work regular hours or something?

Knocked on every door in my subdivision and no one claimed her. Took her to my vet hoping she had a micro chip (she didn’t). County animal shelter is closed today so it looks like we’ll be putting up signs and hoping we can reunite her with her owner. Someone spent well over $1k+ and not bother to get her in a microchip registry. In the meantime my 2 Presa Canarios are looking at her like she’s lunch.

In 2009 an Iranian nuclear scientist disappeared while on a trip to Mecca and later reappeared in videos made in the US. He was not unknown to the US gov’t, that’s for certain, and only the US gov’t knows what, if anything, he provided of value regarding Iran’s nuke program. In 2010, he walked into the Pakistani embassy here and into the “Iranian interests section” within that D.C. building. He claimed that he had been kidnapped while on that Mecca pilgrimage in 2009 and subsequently had been offered millions of dollars by the US and Israel to share whatever info he had. He was reportedly treated as a hero upon his return to Iran.

He’s dead now. He was executed by hanging after years of imprisonment in Iran. In a July 2010 email to then-Secretary of State H. “Wide Load” Clinton, Senior Adviser Jake Sullivan wrote, “The gentleman … has apparently gone to his country’s interests section because he is unhappy with how much time it has taken to facilitate his departure. “This could lead to problematic news stories in the next 24 hours.” Make of that what you will.
