Fort Worth man shoots home invasion suspect, escapes through a window, police say
The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Maddox Avenue, where a victim told police that several males broke into his house.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Police are investigating a home invasion involving a shooting in Fort Worth early Friday morning, officials said.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of East Maddox Avenue, where a victim told police that several males wearing ski masks and armed with guns broke into his house, according to a police news release.

Police said the victim, 30-year-old Cristian Robles, used a gun to defend himself, and the suspects returned fire. Robles then escaped his house through a window and called 911, while the suspects ran away, police said.

Police responded and found a man shot one street north of the original incident. The man who had been shot had called 911 for help, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officers believe the man was shot by the homeowner who initially called police, according to the release. He is now in custody.

Maritza Hernandez, a neighbor, heard the gunshots. She said the Fort Worth Police Department responded within a few minutes. The bullets pierced through her fence and into the house she’s lived in for 45 years.

“Here is my niece’s room. She’s handicapped,” said Hernandez. “She sleeps here, and the bullet is right here. That’s crazy, right?” Hernandez points at a bullet hole in the window.

Hernandez said the suspect, who was shot, jumped the fence to her property, leaving a trail of blood from her side yard all the way to her front porch.

“There is blood everywhere,” she said.

Police believe two other suspects were also involved in the home invasion. They remained at large Friday afternoon.

It’s just no fun when the intended victim is armed too.

2 wounded, 2 arrested in shooting on Detroit’s west side

Charles E. Ramirez
Detroit police arrested two suspects who shot and wounded two other men Thursday leaving a nightclub on the city’s west side, officials said.

Vernal Newson, commander of the Detroit Police Department’s Sixth Precinct, said the shooting happened at about 10 p.m. on the Southfield Freeway Service Drive near Joy Road.

He said the two victims, ages 19 and 23, got into a late-model, wide-body Dodge Charger when two people in a blue sedan approached and pulled alongside them.

“They were wearing masks and announced a holdup,” Newson said. “One of the victims in the Charger, a CPL holder, produced a weapon and one of the suspects in the blue vehicle (both) opened fire.”

Police said a witness to the gunfight produced his a weapon and fired at the blue sedan.

Newson said the suspects fled and were last seen heading south on the freeway’s service drive.

Officers arrived and issued an alert with a description of the suspects and their vehicle to authorities in the area, according to the commander.

He said officers with the precinct’s Robbery Detail who were nearby spotted the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop and arrested the two occupants. Newson said they recovered two weapons and two ski masks from the suspect’s car.

Police said the victims were grazed by gunshots, and the Charger collided with another vehicle. The two victims were taken to a hospital where they are listed in stable condition, the commander said.

“We believe they were targeted for their vehicle,” Newson said. “It was a high-end Charger, a Scat Pack model. Very expensive.”

Teen questioned after shooting City of Houston employee found dead following crash

By Luke Jones
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A 16-year-old boy said he was questioned and released after shooting a man he said attacked him after barging into his sister’s Aldine apartment.

The man, a passenger in a black Cadillac that collided with another car on the North Beltway feeder road at JFK Thursday afternoon, was found dead with a gunshot wound, Houston police said.

Thursday night, Houston Public Works Director Randy Macchi identified the victim as Dequavius Davis, a public works employee.

Police said the medical examiner will need to conduct an autopsy to determine whether he died from the shooting or from the crash.

The shooter’s mother, who asked not to be identified, told Eyewitness News that everything stems from an acrimonious break-up.

She said her daughter, who has a child with the man driving the black Cadillac, had recently broken up with him and begun a new relationship.

Thursday afternoon, she said her daughter’s ex-boyfriend along with the shooting victim showed up at her daughter’s apartment and were met by her new boyfriend.

She said the ex-boyfriend “went to her door, kicked it, snatched her Ring camera down, tore up her house, threw the baby’s shoes everywhere, starts trying to attack her.”

At some point, she said the shooting victim began attacking her 16-year-old son.

“Someone began to cock a gun at my youngest son and my youngest son shot inside of my daughter’s apartment,” she said.

She said her son struck the man once in the arm and that he was able to walk back to the Cadillac afterwards, with the ex-boyfriend driving.

“He walked down the stairs. He was not chased, by no one. Was no one shooting at a car chasing it,” she said.

But the two men only made it about half a mile before crashing into a white car as it drove through an intersection. A utility pole ended up hitting the Cadillac, almost splitting it in two.

She said the ex-boyfriend Facetimed her multiple times from the scene of the crash, but didn’t say anything.

Police say it wasn’t until officers responded to the crash that they learned about the shooting.

The 16-year-old shooter returned home, where his mother said she called police and arranged for him to turn himself in.

He’s now been released and hasn’t been charged.

Both drivers involved in Thursday’s crash were taken to the hospital, police said.

Houston Public Works Director Randy Macchi released the following statement:

“Houston Public Works mourns the tragic loss of one of our employees. Dequavius Davis was killed while on his lunch break Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Davis was a dedicated member of the City of Houston’s drainage and maintenance team and has served the City since 2020.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Let’s all squeak out a tear for poor Mr. Davis who spent his final lunch break getting shot, fleeing the crime scene and then crashing out. The errant utility pole was unavailable for comment. Thanks again for the links, Gun Bunny.

“The incident happened around 3 a.m”

Nothing good happens at 3am.

KoB

A proper weapon to help defend the North Wall….and a proper operator to serve said weapon. Life is good!

Graybeard

That is almost certainly a crew-served rifle. 130+ lbs?

Tallywhagger

Yeah and 6’8″ long! Sure would love to shoot it at playing card, about a mile out. Probably need a scope and maybe a GPS to git’r all lined up because I can’t see that far with these glasses.

MIRanger

Considering the rifle weighs 59 pounds minimum – over 130 pounds with mounts and options – it’s a very stable platform. Moving it around might be a bit of a challenge and might be better suited with a pintle mount on a trailer or scout car.
Retail is $11,900. For the model with a fully-floated barrel and bipod expect to spend $13,000. A suppressor is a $3,200 option and, as the 20mm is loud in the extreme, is an accessory that should not be overlooked. Ammo runs $8 per round for training rounds, and tracer is $15. If you want the HEI variant it is an extra $200 tax stamp per round!!!

Dequavaius might have been on his lunch break but he was having FAFO for lunch and that tends to give one a bad case of indigestion.

David

The car was hit by a utility pole? Parked car, rampaging pole?

5JC

He was a city employee so could do no wrong.

Graybeard

“a city employee in a (D)emon-rat run city”

RGR 4-78

You have to be on the lookout for those free-range utility poles.

MIRanger

It would be a bad case of “karma” if that white car had mistakenly taken the opportunity to run a red light, and halted the ex-boyfriend running his buddy back to work when that utility pole came out of nowhere and just split their car wide open!!!

Claw

The Whiz Wheel®™ says it can be a real bitch at times to ferret out a middle name from the interwebs, but in this case it happened. So, here’s the spin results:

Dequavius Naviair Davis (DRT) 41 x 3 = 123

I misread it at first as some new virus.

Graybeard

Do we need to ask about melanin content?

rgr769

Nope, but it comes with a likely 85 IQ.

Tallywhagger

They might be dumb but they some good people.

Davis? Hee hee!

rgr769

Don’t worry, Momma will be suing the city for dangerous placement of the utility pole.

pookysgirl, WC wife

That last story needs some diagramming, a timeline, and names attached. Plus the subtraction of the passive voice, of course.

Graybeard

I strongly suspect the ‘journalist’ who wrote that could not pass a basic English test on the parts of speech, much less know anything about diagramming a sentence.
They’d probably draw a stick-figure illustration and call it “diagramming”.

5JC

I wanna know where the baby shoes landed. It couldn’t have been everywhere.

Also need an explainer on “He was not chased, by no one. Was no one shooting at a car chasing it”

Who speaks that language and can translate?

MIRanger

I would suspect that it was a direct quote from Grandma, and yes “she who can’t be named” does speak like that!
