El Chapo’s Fast and Furious rifle

| March 17, 2016

Back in January, Fox News told us that when Mexican narco-terrorist Joachim “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested, Mexican authorities found a weapon that was traced back to the Fast and Furious “gun walking” exercise that armed several thousand Mexican thugs by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The agency was trying to track how weapons moved from illegal purchases in the US through the criminal elements south of the border. Well, today that rifle is news again because the Associated Press picked up on the story finally;

The [Justice Department said in a letter to members of Congress that a .50-caliber rifle that Mexican officials sent for tracing after Guzman’s arrest in January has been connected to Fast and Furious.

Officials say the weapon was one of 19 firearms that Mexican authorities said was recovered from the hideout and was the only one determined to be associated with the botched sting operation, in which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed gun-runners to buy weapons in hopes of tracking them and disrupting gun smuggling rungs.

But, no worries because the BATFE has issued a statement of regret, so it’s all cool again;

“ATF and the department deeply regret that firearms associated with Operation Fast and Furious have been used by criminals in the commission of violent crimes, particularly crimes resulting in the deaths of civilians and law enforcement officials,” Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik, head of the Justice Department’s legislative affairs office, wrote in a March 15 letter to congressional leaders.

This only proves how effective the entire program was – they have been able to track the guns all the way to the top echelons of the Mexican gangs. Yay!

Oh, yeah, there are still about 1200 more firearms out there in the hands of criminals, but I’m sure they’ll find them all. It shouldn’t take long at all, because most of the guns turn up at crime scenes.

Then SUCCESS, because it’s THAT what they were trying to do in the first place.
YAY WE WIN!!!
/way to spin it assholes.

I deeply regret that anyone in that BATFEk department is allowed to keep his job.

Along with the N.E.A., the dept of no Energy, the ATF should be disbanded for being corrupt, lying, communist led ASSHOLES!

Wow, that operation appears to be the gift that just keeps on giving.

I’ve seen some pretty ill conceived concepts previously, but this operation quite clearly extends well beyond ill conceived.

But, their intentions were honorable, VOV, they were just trying to abrogate the 2nd Amendment. And make sure that nobody could purchase weapons anywhere.

I was going to post a clip from The Three Amigos but I don’t want to make light of this issue. It was not merely stupid. It was not merely illegal. It was a harebrained, illegal, purposeful course of action by the DOJ which resulted in the death of a Border Patrol agent and others. It took months and months and heavy pressure for any personnel action to be taken against anyone. oBaMa claimed executive privilege. Holder played Sergeant Schultz. And the family of the agent was left with, “Gee, sorry.”

in a lawful administration, the BATFucks should all be indicted for illegal arms-trafficking; instead they’ll all get bonuses…

Maybe there should be more laws regulating the handling of firearms by certain USG Agencies and bureaus. WTF were they thinking those drug runners and gangsters were going to do with those weapons? It’s obvious that B. Hussein 0bama & Company only want firearms in the hands of Government and criminals, but aren’t they one and the same in many cases these days?

Just another bullet comment for Obama’s sterling resume….

Executive privilege…from the administration that brags about transparency

Maybe the DoJ was in a snit because they hadn’t figured out a way to disarm law abiding citizens when they decided to hand out weapons to criminals instead. In the interest of fairness, doncha know. That they were given to foreign drug dealers for use against US citizens was just a bonus. Naw, the folks they supplied with the weapons wouldn’t use them on their fellow countrymen because that would be sooo racist, or something.

Sadly your commentary doesn’t seem to be all that far off the mark. A decided lack of foresight, a decided lack of accountability and a rather definitive negative outcome.

Once again proving that the democrats ideas surrounding accountability are markedly different from most of us among the great unwashed masses.

You mean BATFA couldn’t do this bone head scam with some M-16s, M-4s and such? They had to add .50 rifles to the mix? Thanks guys, nice knowing there is that kind for firepower being brought back into the U.S. illegally for thugs to use here. I feel warmer and fuzzier already.

B Woodman

Gee. . . a .50 cal? And. . . just HOW many planes have been shot down by this monster of destructive firepower? Fortunately for us, none.
But don’t worry, BATFEces, only YOU know how many other high power .50 caliber fully automatic rifles with shoulder thingies that go up, their clips just trembling and quivering, are still out there, just lurking, waiting, to unleash their full fury and might, so that you can have a fig leaf of legal cover to come and seize all gunz in the US.

(/sarc), for those too obtuse to recognize when it comes up and bites them on the azz.

That was my first thought…a freaking .50 cal rifle that they purposely gave to the peace loving members of the drug cartel(s). How would you like to be a member of the Border Patrol (or even a local PD) that has to/had to engage the friendly cartel folks armed with one of them.

At least we won’t allow the Iranians to have nukes….what a bunch of dumbasses.

It sounds like the BATF has its share of Good Idea Fairies too. Can you imagine sitting in on the meeting where F&F was pitched for the first time? I can hear the lips kissing the bosses asses now. Sycophants or simple group think, who the hell could ever think that was a good idea?

How was Fast and Furious suppose to work? Was it:

Step 1: give the bad guys guns whose serial numbers are recorded (on a DD-1348 I suppose.) Step 2: Trace the guns. (Were they using bat-tracers or spidey-trackers and on the guns and the criminals just got wise to them or something? Did they dust them with radioactive dust or order special bolts doped with cobalt-60?) Step 3: Swoop in and bust the bad guys.

I think someone was using magical thinking for step 2, at least. Belling the cat is all fine and good, but who is to do it as the old mouse asked.

Jay Jackson

I wonder if a complete list of the guns by make and caliber that were allowed to go into Mexico has ever been released by the BATF. might be a good read.
