Very nice pic, Jonn.

Good morning to be working outside. 10-15 degrees, no wind, bright sunshine.

Now? Same temp, clouds rolled in, wind picking up. Not so much.

And -35 windchill tomorrow. Yay. As the old man said, builds character.

Aysel

Third! suck it ^_^

Chip: when last we spoke, we discussed specialty badges (I got busier than a mink at breeding season and wasn’t near a keyboard for over a week). You were wondering if McPeak had anything to do with everyone getting one. I don’t think so. When the cops got theirs in the 70’s, a lot of us thought it would be a good idea for everyone to have something. That way, you’d have some idea with whom you were speaking. The worst case scenario was when someone complained to the troop wearing the white uniform with a blue belt and black shoes about the food in the dining hall; when the troop said tell someone who cares, it was on. Medics, cooks, and bakers all wore the exact same duty uniform. We troops discussed it with the Chiefs and someone thought it was a good idea.
McPeak also doesn’t get credit for the 2 rockers and 1 Private stripe MSgts now wear. That goes back to Vandenberg. The complaint was, with the fatigue shirt rolled up, no one could tell a SSgt from a TSgt from a MSgt. We couldn’t roll up our sleeves for years; either we wore short sleeved fatigues or long sleeves. We couldn’t roll up the sleeves until about ’82. The Private, Corporal, and Sergeant stripes took care of that.
McPeak can have credit for going to RAF style cuff rank insignia for the officers. Of course, that also goes back to Vandenberg, the cuff ranks were going to be used when the uniform tuned blue; but, the story goes time ran out so the AF kept the Army style officers’ rank insignia. Since my sainted mother gave birth to an enlisted man, I didn’t care what the officers wore.

SARC

There is rumor going around that Jonn is willing to auction off autographed pictures of himself sporting a MAN BUN to raise funds for a Stolen Valor coin.

He is going tactical with it and calling it the “Bunker Bun”.

What a guy, willing to go to any lengths to support the cause.

B Woodman

SPEW ALERT, please!

RM3(SS)

Well we were wondering if we could somehow fit a mailbox door and maybe a block of cheese into the manbun concept. It’s for a good cause! 🙂

Zero Ponsdorf

This is NO rumor. When the wife and I visited the TAH bunker a few years ago there were several such hanging on the walls.

As I recall there was one of him (sporting the Bunker Bun) in some sort of pink cammo. He claimed it was from his ROTC days????

Dave Hardin

“Don’t ask, don’t tell”, those were dark days my brother.

Dave Hardin

Maybe Man Braids. They can weave grenade pins and spent brass into them. Garnish the style with driveway screws and string cheese.

He will have to do the clown face of course.

AW1Ed

And don’t forget a leather vest with so much bling it takes two men and a boy to pick it up.

AnotherPat

On another note (and no, I was not researching Hondo)

“Former Eighth Army and Army Forces Command chief Gen. (retired) Charles C. “Hondo” Campbell died Monday after a lengthy illness, according to The Times, his hometown newspaper in Shreveport, La.

Campbell, 68, was the Army’s last continuously serving officer who had seen action in the Vietnam War, according to an Army statement released at the time of his retirement in 2010…….”

“Among those paying respects was his friend, retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, a former 2nd Infantry Division commander in Korea and the general who led relief efforts in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

“Rest in peace, General Hondo Campbell,” Honore wrote on Facebook, according to the Times. “Rest well boss, we shall see you on the high ground.”

Recall the Columbus machete attacker? Local constables calling it a random act of violence? Seems his name is Mohammad Barry, from Somalia.

Hmmmm, if a waddles like a duck and it quacks like a duck…

But hey, all you gun carrying nuts, what do you need a gun for! It’s not like some random person is going to attack you with a machete!!

Oh… wait.

Sparks

Remember it’s the evil, scary machete’s fault. Not Mohammad’s for doing the hacking and slashing. We need better machete controls and background checks.

AW1Ed

Thank goodness no one had a gun there. Someone could have gotten hurt!

Help me out here, please. Outside of basic training and Beetle Bailey, when does anyone get KP? Last I heard KP required a food handler’s card so it was no longer assigned as a detail.

It’s seeing the picture of the ceremony above that makes me occasionally feel the need to return to DC.
But after that, I’M OUTTA THERE!

12 Feb 72. My DEROS date from RVN. Arrived at SEATAC about 1000 hrs on a Continental Airlines (The Proud Bird With a Golden Tail)flight. After out processing at Fort Lewis, tried to call home. Never able to get through on the rural party line to let anybody know I was coming. Same deal when trying to call from Chicago.

Cut to the chase: Many cold and freezing my ass off hours later, after catching a ride out to the farm with the third of three different County Sheriff’s Deputies, the neighbors come to the house wanting to know why the cops were at Pop Claw’s Stately Manor at 0330 hrs.

Good times.

Welcome Home. I flew into SFO early May ’69 – got spit at and called baby killer. Can’t say I remember much of the rest of trip home.

Sorry Zero,

Hopefully another spitter in another airport got a double beating that day. The one’s that screamed baby killer are chickenshit pussies, probably dead from a overdose.

The False Commander Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) takes it in the ass.

So much so, I called down there and gave them the suggestion that they should start an aggressive, taxpayer-funded fundraising campaign to design and erect a statue that captures this very vision. They could be creative and incorporate a Native American, SEAL and LEO theme. Sky is the limit here.

Being that Phildo takes it in the ass and will for all eternity, this should be memorialized.

I do not think it went over very well.

Great idea, though. Place it right there on campus will a large tablet listing all of the posers that work at All-Points Logistics.

Awesomesauce, indeed!

sj

GT: how’s your dog? Not many steaming pile reports lately.

Green Thumb

Yeah.

You jogged my memory on the missing piece.

This “Eighth Wonder of All-Points Logistics” will be placed square and center on APL’s campus; right in the center of the APL dog park.

I can only imagine the dogs that will rush to hike a leg (and people too) and piss on it. I will leave it to your imagination the amount of steaming piles of Phil Monkress that will accumulate as well.

A true vision, indeed.

A request for the TAH crowd. If anyone on here is familiar with the workings of EOD, specifically Navy EOD, can you contact Jonn to get my e-mail. I’m working on a phony case right now and I have a few questions.

Story about my kid sisters death.. In law enforcement I also volunteered to take in kids, who survived accidents, suicide and murder, until next of kin were located. Got the call, 18 month old female and hospital. Grabbed a pink stuffed animal along with Pjs and socks. I enter ER and walk toward my contacts office. I hear my family nickname and see my niece running to me.. Nurse says Reb you know this girl? Yup, my niece. As I’m talking to my niece the nurse splits to get the child. I asked Bobo where’s your mommy. She was sleeping and I lay on her. Then I saw blood on her thermals. Doc comes out and I know that look…I left my niece and ran to trauma as docs yelling Reb stop. I found her, laid next to her and pulled the sheet to her neck. I talked until the warmth left her body, kissed her and got my niece. I went home and told my husband, then called my siblings to go to our parents house. I needed a meeting. I was designated as the spokesperson for the family at twenty five by my dad (beauty and brains). When everyone was around the living room, I said I’m here as your daughter and sister, but also as Law enforcement official. I’m so sorry that I have to inform you that (and said her name) your daughter and our sister was killed in a car accident. My mom and dad both grabbed me yelling, she’s with (the name), your wrong. I identified her body and the babies at my house. They’re screaming we want to see her, get in the car. I’M TELLING YOU THAT I WILL NOT ALLOW THAT and if you try to go over my head, they’ll tell you to talk to me. Then the questions that I knew the answers to. Driver was driving, thought she saw a truck and went over the embankment and (my sisters name) was ejected and the car rolled over her twice. She was killed instantly (I lied, she drowned in… Read more »

so i got it in my head last night that i wanted some 3d MARDIV Chilimac for dinner. Thanks to this new fangled internet i was able to find the DOD recipe! thanks to some blogger and reduced from 500 servings to 5 for your enjoyment here it is: USMC Chilimac This recipe is straight from the DOD manual and was reduced from 100 servings to 5. Military cooks get a bit of a bad rep, but their recipes are solid. There are some good ones in this collection that I’ve never seen in a mess hall when I was in the service, curious to try most of them. Trying to cook my way through the recipes and blog about them. For the Macaroni Ingredients * 1 3/4 qt. Water * 1/2 lb. Elbow Macaroni * 3/4 tsp. Salt * 3/4 tsp. Salad Oil Add salt and salad oil to water; heat to a rolling boil. Slowly add pasta while stirring constantly until water boils again. Cook around 8-10 minutes; stir occasionally. Do Not Overcook. Drain. Rinse with cold water; drain thoroughly. For the Chili Macaroni Ingredients * 3/4 lb. Ground Beef, 90% Lean * 4 3/4 tsp. Chili Powder, Ground * 1 1/4 tsp. Cumin, Ground * 1 1/4 tsp. Paprika, Ground * 1/2 tsp. Salt * 1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder * 1/4 tsp. Red Pepper, Ground * 1 1/4 cup Diced Tomatoes * 1/3 cup Tomato Paste * 1/2 cup Onions, Chopped * 1 1/2 cup Water * Cooked Macaroni from Above Brown beef in skillet; cook in its own juice until it loses its pink color, stirring to break apart. Drain or skim off excess fat. Combine chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, garlic powder and red pepper. Stir into cooked beef. Combine diced tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped onions and water to meat; bring to a simmer; cover; cook 30 minutes. Do Not Boil. Stir occasionally. Add cooked macaroni, combine thoroughly. Serves 5 * I found its better if you make it early in the day and let it sit. just had another plate full for b-fast… now… Read more »

I have eaten in a few USMC chow halls in my day and the food was not that bad.

And I do love me some Chili Mac and Yakisoba!

Although I had a tendency to avoid the chicken. It had a tendency to hang around for a while and get “repurposed”.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

If you want the Army version, follow the recipe above, place in a Mermite container, let stand for 3 days, bounce it around in the back of an M151 for another day. Drop off at Platoon location at about 0500 hrs and run like hell.

Ex-PH2

Here’s something that should interest any fan of Chicago’s history, especially during the early 20th century. The anniversary of the St. Valentine’s Day massacre at a garage on North Clark Street is coming up. The coroner’s reports were found in a metal filing cabinet at the ME’s office and are being reviewed for the details.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-autopsy-reports-valentines-day-massacre-20160212-story.html

There’s a photo of two people looking at the two Tommy guns on the table in front of them. 1929 must have been an exciting year. The reports will most likely end up at the Chicago Historical Society. Great place to visit, too.

Perry Gaskill

Ex, although the Thompsons in the photo are easily recognizable, I did some digging to identify the unusual third weapon on the table. Turns out it is apparently a German MP 18, an ancestor of both the German MP 40 Schmeisser and the British STEN used in WWII. The photo also raises the question: if the coroner had the weapons sitting on the table, why did the shooters leave them behind?

Slightly off topic, one of the books on Chicago crime I’ve found interesting is Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. In it, Larson weaves the story of serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair. Good stuff if you haven’t read it.

Ex-PH2

Tommyguns on the table: My guess would be that the Trib photographer asked for that, for the drama of it. On the other hand, such things were cheap and plentiful and if it was Al Capone who ordered the hit, there were plenty more where those came from. It’s also possible that the guns belonged to the dead men. Some of the shooters were dressed in CPD uniforms and they may have thought it was a police raid.`

Perry Gaskill

Or it was:

Leave the guns, take the cannoli…

Ever notice how newspapers back in the day were a lot less squeamish about running gruesome photos on the front page? One I distinctly remember is that of Ruth Snyder getting fried on the electric chair. Although cameras had been banned, a reporter sneaked one in strapped to his ankle.

The following scenario is presented for discussion of which is worse: Blue Falconry or Sockpuppeting.

Blue Falcon: E-8 receives an ARCOM for trolling active duty service personnel’s Facebook pages looking for offending comments and then reporting those comments to echelons above reality.

Sockpuppeting: Retired E-9 defends a General Discharge E-2 who claims to have been a Vietnam POW/multiple Purple Heart recipient by advising the E-2’s employer to pay no attention to published facts that prove the E-2 is a liar.

And Go…….

1st SEAC of the JCS supporting an E2 who claims to have been a Door Gunner and a POW during the Vietnam Conflict.

1st SEAC of the JCS claims to have been a Vietnam ERA Veteran as well as claiming three (3) NDSM even though he was born in 1956 and graduated from High School in 1975.

I vote for Sockpuppeting. Hope that becomes a new Category for voting.

1st SEAC of JCS would win.

And can have a new Cup named after him.

Gotta love this.

One was hurt (possibly legitimate, but no explanation given) and one was a junkie.

And the Washington Post is making it sound like they are heroes.

And I love the landlord. A couple of shitbags taking advantage of more shitbags based on Veterans status (real or perceived).

I love the fact the VA is funneling money to those that really “served” this country through thick and thin.
