Stolen Valor in the media

| January 31, 2016

I had a nice chat the other day with Joe Hotchkiss of the Augusta Chronicle in regards to stolen valor, what else. Joe wrote a nice opinion piece in the paper yesterday and mentioned us after admitting that his only time in uniform was in the school band. He talks about one of our more successful busts, Jason Scaletta. He also mentioned some of our work on the Burns, Oregon crowd. But mainly it’s a warning to those scads of phonies that we’ll catch them all eventually;

That means if you want to wear a Purple Heart – the medal given to military members wounded or killed while defending their country – you can.

But it won’t make you a genuine Purple Heart recipient.

It will make you a callous numbskull. Or, if you already are a numbskull, it will efficiently send the message to others that you’re a numbskull.

THE INTERNET sends the message very well, too. Two websites – militaryphony.com and valorguardians.com – have kept tabs on hundreds and hundreds of these valor thieves, and you can see them in all their fake-uniformed glory. Though I’m no medical expert, I would caution actual veterans against looking at these sites if they’re under doctor’s orders to control their blood pressure.

The sites’ researchers are quite thorough.

But you should click over and give Joe some linky love for getting our message out.

He did a good job with the article. Anytime someone steps up and supports the cause they deserve our support.

Thanks for the post Jonn.

Fort Gordon (Signal Corps) . Right outside of Augusta. My old stomping grounds. ?

Great eats at the Waffle House right outside the Post.

KUDOS to Mr. Hotchkiss (Hey, there are cars AND MG’s by that name!), and I hope he awakes many other reporters to this!

Mmmmmm – “Awful Waffle”, they make a wicked Patty or Sausage Melt Sandwich as well. 😀

Mr. Hotchkiss hit all the relevant points and laid the issue out clearly, didn’t he.

Well done.

This article caused me a brain fart. What are the chances those of us on this web site could collectively create some standard form of “Media Release” It would be used every time another phony is uncovered on this site; and sent by all interested to the home town of register to the phony being outed. That would include newspapers, radio, television and if we could swing it….have someone in each respective town scribble it with crayon on the shit house walls in the local bus station. It would be up to us to follow through and send to ALL media. Hopefully that would get others to follow this same reporter’s motivation. Bound to be others with different ideas that can expand this one. So no one would not be too timid to open an email in receipt, it would probably have to have the header TAH under subject matter.

I stopped over at the Burn Pit from the American Legion and found this about one of our prize SV pukes.
Sterling Orlando Scott was sentenced to 10 years in prison for scamming $11K from a Veteran’s Charity for a combat wound he said he got but no record of such a wound exists… Jonn Lilyea is cordially mentioned for the work that he and others do over here.
Thanks to all of you cor standing for what is right about our deserving Veterans instead of the pukes…
