Homeless Man Stops Shotgun-Wielding Attacker In California Encampment

Mark Chesnut
The Second Amendment was written for all of “the people,” not just those who have enough money to own a sizable gun collection or the latest concealed carry rig. In fact, Americans living in homeless encampments just might be more likely to need to practice their right to armed self-defense more often than those living in gated neighborhoods with expensive security systems.

Such was the case recently when a homeless man shot another homeless man who was coming at him with a shotgun in a California homeless encampment.

According to media reports, a man shot and killed another man at the Chico Homeless Alternative Camping Site in Chico, California. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 53-year-old Donald Laroy Stevens dead from gunshot wounds. He had been shot by another man living in the encampment, 51-year-old Gerald Michael Thompson, who fled the scene after the shooting.

Chico Police reported that detectives initially investigated the death as a possible homicide and interviewed several residents of the camping site. Residents told them Thompson and Stevens resided in neighboring tents, and one of Thompson’s dogs had severely attacked one of Stevens’ dogs earlier in the day.

Numerous witnesses said that Stevens was very upset and was yelling that he was going to kill Thompson, Thompson’s dogs, and Thompson’s family while racking the action of a shotgun at his tent, which was directly across a walkway from Thompson’s tent. Thompson grabbed a .22-caliber revolver out of his tent in case things got worse.

Seeing Stevens was the aggressor, another resident tried to stop him by reaching for the shotgun. Thompson later told officers that when he saw the motion out of the corner of his eye and saw Stevens flinching, he reflexively pulled the trigger, dropping Stevens with one shot.

According to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, under California law, self-defense is justified when an individual, who is not the initial aggressor, reasonably believes they are in imminent danger of being killed or suffering great bodily injury. Multiple parties, including Thompson, told detectives that Stevens was known to be dangerous and irrational when upset, and that Stevens had threatened other people before.

Ultimately, investigators and prosecutors concluded that Thompson had a reasonable self-defense claim, so no homicide charges were filed against him. However, he has been charged with possessing a firearm as a felon, which could land him in prison for several years.

Sweet home Chicago.

Mother Who Shot Home Intruder In Self-Defense Won’t Be Charged

A Memphis mom won’t face charges after she shot an intruder who broke into her home, per Black Enterprise.

Video of the break-in showed the mother, who remains unidentified, retreating into a room and asking three intruders to leave her home. The mother informed the intruders that she had children in the house with her before she opened fire against one of the women who broke into her home.

21-year-old Kimari Burnham, 21-year-old Nala Kelley, and 22-year-old Dejwan Payne were arrested and charged in connection with the break-in. Burnham, who was shot, was listed in critical condition following the intrusion.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said authorities responded to the scene after receiving reports of a shooting at the woman’s home. Three people broke into the residence at roughly 10 p.m. on the night of the incident. When police arrived, they found Burnham with an apparent gunshot wound. Officials believe the incident was domestic.

All three suspects were charged with aggravated burglary. Burnham and Kelley are also facing additional charges of misdemeanor vandalism.

After collecting evidence from the scene, investigators determined that the Memphis mother acted in self-defense in the shooting of Burnham.

Mama Bear is as Mama Bear does.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Mr Thompson went from homeless to having a home…..for a few years.
What’s going to happen to his dog?
(don’t let the DildoCrats hold a fundraiser. they’ll take the money and run)

Good shooting, dropping Mr Stevens with one shot. Shows that even a little .22LR can be a man stopper.

And if you can’t stop ’em with one, those .22 semi-auto pistols can hold something like 50 or 60 of them little bullets in their magazines, so you have plenty of ammo for follow up.

NAA makes .22 caliber five shot single action revolvers. Depending on model, from .22short to .22mag. Tiny, but quite functional.

If they would upscale a smidgen to .32, they would be on to something quite useful, especially if they could manage. 32H&R.

At one point I read that . 22LR had killed more people than any other round, more due to sheer numbers of them than to instant lethality. Not much stopping power, but as one person put it, a .22 in the eye will discourage anyone. Also saw another study that showed how many rounds tended to be fight stoppers. Not necessarily killed or disabled, just when the bad guy says “I’m done” and for almost all ‘major’ cartridges it was 2-3 rounds – but even for little fellas like . 22 or . 32 it was not much worse at 3-4 rounds. At some point folks just get tired of being shot. I guess the takeaway is that lots of smaller rounds works as well as a few big ones.

Studies have 9mm as by far the most popular choice for homicides.

https://www.buckeyefirearms.org/alternate-look-handgun-stopping-power

One shot stopping power is ruled by center fire Rifle rounds, 12 GA shotguns and then larger pistol rounds. On the two way range that means there won’t be any follow up shots with a 22lr or whatever. An unarmed target will likely be shot many times as there is little to discourage the attacker unless the attacker is stopped/ disabled on the first shot.

A more exhaustive study of LOD gunfire deaths of police officers confirms this, where the shootings were studied in depth.

Shotguns still rule in the fight stopping power department. They are antiques and throwbacks but they are still around because the one trick they do, they do it very well.

With names like Kimari, Nala, and Dejwan, I can imagine their skin melanin content, but not their genders. And there were no photos of the three perps to assist. At least one was female from the story.
Is this a rising trend, female burglars?
Time for Claw to step up with the Whiz Wheel and give us a score on these three losers.
