Two coalition soldiers murdered in latest green-on-blue assault

| August 26, 2015

ChannelAsiaNews reports that two men dressed as ANA soldiers murdered two NATO troops in Helmand Provence yesterday;

“Two Resolute Support (NATO) service members died early this morning when two individuals wearing Afghan (military) uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at an (Afghan security forces) compound in Helmand province,” a NATO statement said.

“Resolute Support service members returned fire and killed the shooters,” it added, without revealing the nationalities of the soldiers.

The Taliban did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, and Western officials say that most such attacks stem from personal grudges and cultural misunderstandings rather than insurgent plots.

Yeah, that makes complete sense. I kill everyone with whom I disagree on cultural issues, too. That was the Pentagon’s excuse for green-on-blue attacks three years ago. It was a stupid excuse then and it’s stupid now.

It certainly wasn’t the conclusion of the investigation of the murder of Major General Harold Greene last year, so why would be the conclusion of the media in this case? These sorts of attacks seem to be the only successful strategy the Taliban has employed against coalition troops.

Sad.

I used to get into pissing matches with one of my ANA Instructors on a daily basis. He never attempted to kill me. I also don’t buy the grudge killing excuse.

“Western officials say that most such attacks stem from personal grudges and cultural misunderstandings rather than insurgent plots.”

The tattered fig leaf that the west and unfortunately our sell out brass and government hide behind. These incidents are happening in greater frequency and every time it’s an American we hear how it’s a “NATO” troop or a “Coalition” service member. Most assuredly to cover a president who is more interested in defending muslims and his failed policy of surrender in the middle east. I feel for those that have to play out this hand that was dealt by a treasonous government and sell out Senior “Leadership” that won’t stand up and say “enough!” One can only imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if GWB were still in office every time this happens. There would be days on end of left wing media hacks screaming about the failed policies of the Bush government and how the military is just a pawn in his evil games. But alas, BHO must be defended by the Praetorian Guard press that only cares about the troops when they can be used to bludgeon a republican.

“The Taliban did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack”

Of course not; they were defeated three years ago, right? Right?

I sometimes wonder how different news reporting would be if all news readers, columnists, editorialists, and reporters were military veterans. Although I don’t watch TV news, I watched my fill of it years ago and, from occasional glimpses of it today, I see nothing has changed. News readers are fatter and older and a lot less white than they used to be but, substantively, there remains no substance. It’s all get-in and get-out stories. There is an exception to that: when the news is the news itself or, more accurately, the news readers. How long did we suffer stories about that lying anchor guy, Williams? The other guy, um, Brokaw, was lauded for weeks when he retired. Cronkite remains a god.

Yesterday, a local news gatherer was shot by a nut and the victims’ lives are detailed everywhere today. We know their marital status, where they attended school, what their aspirations were, how they were perceived by colleagues, and how they were loved by friends and family. Pictures of the young woman and pictures of the young cameraman are ubiquitous. Presidential candidates and elected officials all have something to say about the ‘terrible loss of two fine young people.’ Two other Americans were shot and killed in Afghanistan hours before the Virginia shootings. They haven’t been identified yet and, when they are, the news readers will say, “ The two US soldiers who were killed on August 25th have been identified. They are (Name) of (State) and (Name) of (State.) A NATO spokesman said…. Here now with traffic and weather is ______________. How’s the weekend looking ____________?” And that will pretty much be that, except for what the morning commute will look like.

The two Fallen soldiers were actually special ops airmen.

“Capt. Matthew D. Roland, 27, and Staff Sgt. Forrest B. Sibley, 31. […]Roland, from Lexington, Ky., was attached to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla. Sibley, from Pensacola, Fla., was part of the 21st Special Tactics Squadron, based at Pope Army Airfield in North Carolina. Both squadrons are part of the Air Force Special Operations Command.” (Source: Stars and Stripes)
