Trump’s lessons for the GOP
First let me say that I wouldn’t vote for Donald Trump on a bet. He has no idea how government works, much like our current President. He would be the most imperial president in history and Executive Orders would be flowing from the Oval Office by the truckloads. However, here we are, with him leading the field of GOP candidates. The reason, of course, is that he’s saying the things that Americans want to hear from a GOP candidate and he doesn’t apologize for his opinions.
The remainder of the current crop of candidates seem to be racing to the Left of the Democrat Party instead of having their own voice and representing the majority of Americans. They want to be populist, attract the Liberal Independents instead of returning to their conservative roots.
The Republicans left me after the 2004 elections, so I turned in my credentials and I’m now unaffiliated with any party. It looks like the national Republicans have joined the Democrat Party, though, forgetting that Americans vote for Republicans for their differences from the Democrats. Ronald Reagan was clearly different from Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush was obviously the political opposite of Al Gore.
Americans returned Republicans to control of the Senate to prevent the types of things that we’ve seen from the White House in the last few years, but Senate Republicans are as much a rubber stamp for the President as the Reid Senate. And the GOP presidential candidates are out-Clintoning Hillary.
If the GOP candidates are serious about winning the White House in 2016, they need to ignore the idiots at the New York Times and be themselves – represent the best things about America instead of playing to the dumbasses who elected Obama in the first place. they need to go over the heads of the media to the people like what won the election for Ronald Reagan.. They’re never going to get the media on their side, so they should stop trying – ask John McCain how that doesn’t work.
Be a clear choice, not a coin-flip choice.
Category: Congress sucks
Exactly, Jonn. Well said.
I agree.
Trump is an idiot, for sure, but he is saying a lot of things, both good and bad, that are resonating with many folks across many walks of life.
I will give him this: He is not afraid to speak his mind. That used to be an admirable quality. Not any more.
Oh he is I agree too .. he might be saying that he is not afraid and that El Chapo’s death treat was no big deal but he really did beef up his security, anyone that is so stupid that he doesn’t realize the reach cartel drug lords have … not in the “this person is bright” category for me.
And while I don’t take offense, some of my mexican counterparts are .. well not happy .. and I don’t know if he should be pissing off ppl that can leak his documents in a flash, speaking your mind is important, knowing how and when is even more important I think.
He managed to piss off someone that can easily buy as many F-16 as a small country has and doesn’t realize it was a mistake *facepalm*
No man that has as much money as he has, lost it a couple of times and got it back and can bend the press around his finger is an idiot.
He speaks his mind. Odd that what he says is what Americans have been wanting to hear from politicians for years and they run from it. Should be a lesson in there somewhere…
As for him not knowing how the government works. he is a pretty astute businessman. He will surround himself with people that do know how it works. I won’t vote for him but to dismiss him out of hand because he is not a polished politician is dangerous and wrong.
I did not dismiss him.
He is an idiot.
It can be done (be an idiot and stay/get elected).
Look who has been in office the past two terms.
Actually clown might be a better word.
He is not dumb. But he definitely brings the sideshow.
Well said Jonn.
Trump may not know how government works but, unlike Obama, I bet he can learn — and damn fast.
I don’t want to hear how “imperial” trump would be, we have the biggest P.O.S. in the world now, anything short of dog crap would be an improvement!!
Correction sir, dog crap would be an improvement over this lump of inert material we have currently residing at 1600 Penn. Ave. and her equally inert husband.
Neither party (Republican or Democrat) could lead a pack of pedophiles to a pre-school.
I don’t think they could lead a platoon of horny Sailors to a Brothel or an Air Farce platoon to an ice cream shop!
I really, really hope that Trump is not the Republican nominee. If he is, though, I’ll probably grit my teeth and vote for him, because I’d still prefer this blowhard to any of the candidates that have announced on the Democrat side. I’d consider a Scoop Jackson Democrat if there was one, but the Dems seem to have made a concerted effort to drive such people from the party (think Joe Lieberman).
I really, really hope that neither Bush, Romney, or Christie are our nominees. If that happens I’ll probably vote for Hillary or Sanders then commit seppuku with a soup spoon. Sorry, if I’m going to get a socialist I’d rather get one who admits to it, or to loving it rather than one who says he isn’t yet will willingly and happily play lapdog to it.
The recent gains in the Senate by the Republicans was based on promises that they would overturn Obamacare, fight illegal immigration, and reduce government spending. So far they are 0 for 3, and not even really trying. J. Bush, Graham, and their ilk have seen that empty promises are good enough to get elected at least once. I’d never vote for the clown, but Trump is making all of them squirm a little bit.
I find Mr. Trump a bilious buffoon, however his words are resonating with the American right. He is the first candidate to address the threat that our open borders and the Gimme Dat society pose to our national survival. He has pinpointed the feckless pandering that both parties are guilty of. I hope that a true conservative starts taking the same line.
I have always liked the way Scott Walker took on the problems of his state. America needs the same treatment. Some say he has no background in Foreign Policy, so what. Barack Obama has 6 years on the job and still has no Foreign policy to speak of.
I agree that Trump is a poor choice, but Hillary would be a disaster. Perhaps a bigger disaster than Obama, if that is possible.
Why not let a successful businessman run the country? That’s basically all the US has turned into anyway. And someone who calls it like he sees it – what the hell. Things couldn’t get any worse…
I respect your opinion and perspective, a lot. But to me, the hallmark of a great businessman is not one who takes his companies through bankruptcy 4 times (and counting).
I like what comes out of his mouth sometimes, in the rare event it is not self promotion. But otherwise, I have no respect for Donald Trump other than his ability to con gullible investors.
I actually think that is what the founders envisioned for our national leadership. They wanted men of substance, property, and integrity. I doubt they ever foresaw the presidency as a popularity contest to be won like a prize with promises of free shit for everyone.
Orange man got to be speaker because of the Tea Party. The first thing McCain and the speaker did was shit on the very people who got them there. I turned independent after Bush the second. He was good to the military but spent money like a liberal. All these so called politicians are two sides of the same coin.
Trump is an abrasive, obnoxious clunk with a big mouth. He did make some good points, though, but he is volatile and over-reactive. Could he manage a real threat? Well, he couldn’t manage Ivanka, so what do you think?
Trump likes the limelight a lot. I’d rather see that job go to someone else who has some common sense and doesn’t pander to the gimme-gimme crowd.
I actually like The Donald in a twisted sort of way. The campaign needs some comic relief, and he’s a sanity check for a bunch of other candidates who can’t seem to go to the bathroom without an opinion poll and an environmental impact report.
A wise man once said you are not voting for whoever would be the perfect candidate, you’re voting for whichever of the two objectionable bastards is the least worst. Had it not been for that advice I wouldn’t have cast a vote since ’84…as it is, I have to have a clothespin for my nose and a drink to try and absolve my guilt for some of the people who wound up benefiting by my inevitable “vote against”.
There is a perfect descriptive phrase for people like Trump: Demagogue.
As long as we’re looking for possibles, here’s something from the Fed hearings, with Yellen gettint ‘yelled’ at, although I think it was more of a set-down than yelling.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/congressman-screams-at-yellen-you-did-nothing/ar-AAd0RuT
Note that the headline says ‘screamed’. There was no screaming. Apparently, with libertards, if you raise your voice above a soft, turtledove cooing level, you’re completely out of control. I find Duffy’s direct, no-nonsense approach refreshing and practical.
I plunked down $150 to hear Trump speak on Friday night. I believe he knows he cannot be elected and wants to push the others to take needed action. Yes, he’s not politically correct but he has the hottest wife of all the candidates. As for political correctness, here is how President Truman described it:
Washington, D C
2120-September 1, 1945
To: D A MacArthur/C H Nimitz
From: H S Truman
Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean
end!
From a blogger’s standpoint, a Biden vs. Trump election campaign would be a blessing.
It would be a contest to see which could out-gaffe or out-buffoon the other.
Since I seriously believe that shrillary cannot be trusted, period, if it ends up as a Trump v. shrillary, I would NOT vote for shrillary.
Bloggers might love it. The country would be well and truly fucked either way.
You haven’t blogged shit until you’ve blogged the candidacy of Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho!!! Fuk yeah!!!

When it all comes down to one main question, “WHO WOULD YOU VOTE FOR”???????????, I think I would have to say Mr. D. Trump, why you say???????,well stop and ask yourself this question, Who eles do you know that’s made the big bucks that’s ran for office and never had to ask the public for donations??????? I hate the guy for his big mouth, but he’s got guts and for myself I don’t see him as a back-stabber, nor twoface. For the rest of the others running, well I’d just as soon see each and everyone of them bugout. You can either like what I have to say or you can lump it. End of story.
Sam
Sam I am with you on this one. Trump I believe is a good person and has our country’s best interest in heart. He reminds somewhat of Ronald Reagan in that respect. Reagan was not the brightest light bulb when it came to running an entire country and I thing he knew it. That is why IMO he surrounded himself with some of the best minds our country had to offer to make up for his shortcomings. I truly think Trump would try to do the same. No he is not my favorite person, but looking at the other dimwits to choose from I would vote for him above all the current others. Although I read this Blog daily, this is my first time commenting, and may well be my last.
Trump wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his big yap: it was golden. His father made gazillions in building and Donald was a millionaire before he could spell that word. He rails against government but added greatly to his fortune by entering into very sweet deals with government, either taking taxpayer-furnished funds, obtaining tax concessions, or both. He is an opportunist and every bit as vile a creature as the politicians (mainly Democrats) that he has bedded and supported over the decades. Plus, his hairstyle is horrendous.
So you think that Trump is an idiot? He has pulled himself back from bankruptcy a couple of times and now has assets of 10+ Billion Dollars. Where do you think this country is right now?
I agree, I don’t think he’s an idiot. He’s a TROLL. He knows exactly which buttons to push to get people talking and he does it very successfully. But just like four years ago, I doubt he has any real intent on actually running for president. He’s probably just drumming up publicity for some project or product of his that he’ll announce soon. Political Apprentice, maybe? 😉
As for his business prowess, I look at it from the other side: he managed to bankrupt himself at least 4 times!
I wonder how Trump’s creditors felt about his heroic recovery from four bankruptcies.
His personal wealth has been shielded for the most part from his bankruptcies #2, #3, and #4. That’s what he learned from bankruptcy #1.
The perception that he is rich and successful is part of the con. If he was both, he wouldn’t be shooting craps with other people’s money…and losing.
The reality is that, nowadays, he is just a shill.
And the Donald has been known to exaggerate his net worth, because that is what a shill does. http://www.forbes.com/sites/erincarlyle/2015/06/16/trump-exaggerating-his-net-worth-by-100-in-presidential-bid/
And yeah, the hair. Fuck me.
“(Trump) has no idea how government works, much like our current President.” Ha! Obama seems to be doing a pretty good job of getting his way for someone who has no idea how gov’t works. Just dumb luck I guess.
