The folks at Lovell/Fairchild send us the news that Faith of Our Fathers, a movie about sons of Vietnam Veterans will be released July 1st;
FAITH OF OUR FATHERS—a moving story of faith and friendship in time of war, and for generations—premieres nationwide July 1 as the nation commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.
A Downes Brothers production in association with Pure Flix, FAITH OF OUR FATHERS stars Stephen Baldwin, Kevin Downes, David A.R. White, Candace Cameron Bure, Rebecca St. James and Si Robertson, Duck Dynasty’s “Uncle Si,” who is a Vietnam veteran. Carey Scott directs. Pure Flix and Samuel Goldwyn Films distribute.
SYNOPSIS With the Vietnam War raging in 1969, two young fathers report for duty. A man of great faith and a doubtful cynic. A quarter-century later, their sons, Wayne and John Paul (David A.R. White and Kevin Downes), meet as strangers. Guided by letters handwritten from their fathers from the battlefield, they embark on an unforgettable journey to The Wall—the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Along the way, they discover the devastation of war cannot break the love of a father for his son.

Looks interesting. Guardedly optimistic based on the trailer, that this won’t be another liberal anti-Vietnam/Vet movie.
I’m suspicious of what I saw in the trailer, that it’s another liberal ‘victim’ movie. I’m not seeing this movie until I see the critiques from the vets on TAH who see it.
I’m heartened by the cast. Stephen Baldwin and Candace Cameron are both known for their support for the troops, so I’m betting that they wouldn’t take the jobs if it showed troops in a negative light.
My feelings exactly until I read Jonn’s comment just below.
Let’s just say that I’m guardedly optimistic, after all, Uncle Si’s involved as well.
Do not the movie has Uncle Si in it. A man who stands by his convictions no matter the results. Joe
On imdb Sy Richardson is listed as a cast member, not Si Robertson, just FYI.
My wife and I were at the movies this weekend and saw the previews for this and believe it or not, it was definitely Duck Dynasty Sy they showed…albeit very, very briefly.
For a serious movie, my wife and I were….really? Uncle Sy?
FWIW.
Thanks for getting me to investigate further! And shame on me for trusting imdb for accurate info 😉 I now see several articles referring to Si Robertson being in the film. BTW, I am happy to see that that’s the case.
I dont get how there is such a huge difference in the Baldwin brothers politics.
Im sure I’ll see it. It cant make American troops look any worse than Casualties of War, Platoon or Stop Loss.
They had me at Rebecca St. James… 🙂
A good friend of mine used to be a self-proclaimed Jesus Freak and had a big crush on her. He talked me into going to a Christian concert on New Years’Eve, which I figured wouldn’t last that long since it started around five. St. James was the headliner, playing through midnight and ruining my streak of sleeping through the festivities. 🙂
As for the movie, maybe sometime. I very rarely–like once every 3-4 years–go to theaters.
Stephen Baldwin, Si Robertson, Candace Cameron? I’mma be there, front n center.
