A bit overcast in Boise, but the temp is the same. And windy.

Terrorologist

59 and light rain just west of Boise.

25 and cloudy in Rochelle, IL.

OAE CPO USN Ret

To the tune of the old Budweiser Commercials:

When you say Ro-chelle Hubs, you’ve said it all!

Don’t ask me how I know that.

A Proud Infidel®™

How do you know that -*OOP!*

Jordan Rott

Hey Infidel, where is Rochelle at? I’m from Plainfield.

Ex-PH2

Rochelle is south of Rockford.

Ex-PH2

18F and clear as a bell up here in Washburn, but the only weather station I can get right now is Minot. Go figure.

Skippy

Well here at the house it was 86.6 degrees today at the airport at was 84 tomorrow 90 and clear

Skippy

Damn I forgot that would be Tucson, Az

Pinto Nag

Yeah, he looks old enough to have written that book in 1638!

(Never mind. Cooler heads prevailed about THAT. Thanks, Jonn.)

Pinto Nag

…and what the devil is he wearing?? Are those Tiger Stripes, or what?

fm2176

That’s the USAF’s wonderflauge, adopted to keep pace with the Army and Marine Corps.

And in other news, sunburned and loving it after spending another week as NCOIC overseeing a fun event.

My IP address is now known, though. FM 03-05.70 and I will feel the burn soon enough I guess. Good thing we’re survivors.

Ex-PH2

Naw, those aren’t tiger stripes. They’re just wrinkles.

Eden

Air Force ABUs.

Are you sure this guys alive, and not a figurine in a wax museum.

Zero Ponsdorf

You so cute…

You clean up real purty there, John.

Pinto Nag

Quite photogenic. Quite.

There could be a caption contest re the info babe and John

SJ

Damn autocorrect…I know it is “Jonn”.

Sparks

Nice Butt!!! 😀 😀 😀 (Somebody had to say it.)

Silentium Est Aureum

I certainly wouldn’t.

Sparks

Silentium Est Aureum…I was talking about…HER! 😀

Pinto Nag

Does she have one? I’m sorry, I didn’t notice.

CLAW131

Yea, she does,but just barely.

Kinda reminds me of a Mila Kunis type of butt.

Joe Williams

Surpise, this is coming from a male sailor. All chiefs on deck.Sparks meds is making him too gay.I am joking. Glad to see you are doing better each day and remember you are not on the pier or underway. Joe

Sparks

Joe…Thanks brother. Getting better a little every day. By the end of most days though I have to break down and use the pain meds. That;s when I love trolling! 😀

MIKE THE GRUNT

That’s funny shit John.

Ex-PH2

Is it sexual harassment to say ‘cute butt’ about the guy in jeans?

farmgirl with a mosin nagant

If it is, does he mind?

Ex-PH2

No idea.

Probably gets tickled by it.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’d bet a sixpack of Samuel Adams he at least chuckled about that as soon as he read it!

Silentium Est Aureum

You have to jump your entire chain and go straight to a 3-star to get it first.

I have an Honorary ARCOM !!!
I got it from this lawyer in Oregon, he bestowed all the rights and responsibilities that go with being a US Army Honorary CPO too !!!
I am just sooooo special !!!

MrBill

Bernath is full of shit, as usual. There, I said it.

I plan to have a good time this weekend, as it may be my last chance for a while – seeing as how CID will be waiting for me with handcuffs on Monday morning.

Ex-PH2

Oh, look! The birdbrained idiot drama queen and attention whore finally foudn this page!!! Aren’t we just bored silly by it now?

Didja call that number I gave you, bernitwit? Or are you as stupid as you act? I can leave another one for you. I’m sure they’ll be HAPPY as hell to talk to you, and offer you the help you REALLY need to find peace and happiness.

Fsckity-Fsck

John Giduck – the turd with a face!

Green Thumb

Commander Phil Monkress of All-Points Logistics continues to avoid calls seeking clarification of his highly speculative Native American claims and well as his down right false Navy SEAL and Brevard County Sherriff’s Deputy claims.

He also avoids questions (as does his senior staff) concerning All-Points Logistics’ internal policies governing unethical conduct, criminal behavior, hiring policies and requirements as well as their SCI procedures.

Clowns and turds, clowns and turds.

Sparks

I was chewing two pieces of cinnamon gum. It went out of style so I spit it in the toilet. It looked like half a brain. I thought of Phil Monkress, Bernath, Whitless, Frankie and Paul (of the Ballsack). Then I flushed ’em. Later this afternoon I’ll be taking a Phildo type deuce and wiping my Bernath.

Ex-PH2

Let’s face it, Green Thumb: Phil’s afraid of you.

Climb to Glory

Hey Birdbath:

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m looking forward to “The Karma Express” coming up on a few certain individuals like this as it runs over them!!!

A Proud Infidel®™

Union Pacific Railroad #844, THE ONLY steam locomotive owned by a major US Railroad that has NEVER been retired, built by ALCO (American Locomotive Company, Schenectady, NY)in 1944 and used today in excursion service along with 3985 soon to be joined in service by “Big Boy” #4014!

Sparks

A Proud Infidel®™…I love all things trains. The “Big Boy” was a 4-8-8-4 articulated locomotive. The biggest steam loco ever. Man what I’d give to stand by the track as one went by!

A Proud Infidel®™

You’ll have the chance in another 1 1/2 to 2 years Sparks, the UPRR acquired “Big Boy” #4014 from a railroad museum in CA, and she’s now in the UP Steam Shop in Cheyenne undergoing a full overhaul and restoration for excursion service, just search “UP 4014” on youtube for videos of the move.
Another beautiful piece of machinery being overhauled is N&W #611, a beautifully streamlined 4-8-4 built by Norfolk & Western’s shops in Roanoke VA.

A Proud Infidel®™

P.S., I’ve been a “Railnerd” since I was a toddler!

Sparks

Cool! Way cool!

3/17 Air Cav

Sparks……every year the SP&S 700 steam locomotive comes right by my house. It was built in 1938. When it comes by its pulling a group of vintage cars. I can hear the whistle long be fore it gets here. A couple of times I’ve stood on my deck and taken photos as it flys by.

farmgirl with a mosin nagant

The funny thing is, I JUST got my hands on a cd of classic railroad songs. Including such classics as Midnight Special by Lead Belly. There’s a voice if you’ve heard it once you’ll never forget…

CLAW131

Sigh, just can’t get it up anymore for the females of our species, but the chubby is readily evident whenever I see or hear anything about about those three locomotives.

There’s just something about the steam whistle and the driver wheels that gets me in the mood.

Ex-PH2

I live midway between two separate rail lines. In the winter, I can hear the trains faintly even though the windows are closed. But in the summertime, with the windows open, I can hear both lines clearly. It’s like a heartbeat that lets you know the world is moving around you.

Pinto Nag

I love trains. I don’t know a thing about ’em, but I love them anyway.

A Proud Infidel®™

There are a lot more operational steam locomotives than one would think, Google “N&W 611” and you’ll find info about a beautiful streamlined 4-8-4 steamer being resurrected back into excursion service!

CLAW131

There is a 2-8-4, the NKP765, that is in service for excursions back in my old neck of the woods, Indiana and Michigan.

A Proud Infidel®™

Another beautiful piece of machinery, Michigan is also home to Pere Marquette 1225 if I’m correct, and Milwaukee Road 261 is just across the lake in Wisconsin!

UpNorth

Correct, 1225 still runs. I think it’s stored in Owosso, Mi between runs.
http://youtu.be/VkGgeZTIGec

A Proud Infidel®™

NICE VIDEO!! 😀 I’m sure those bilevel commuter coaches accommodated plenty of paying excursionists to defray expenses, here’s a video of PM1225 with N&W 611’s whistle:

A Proud Infidel®™

AWW CRAP, “Proudinfidelpasteitis” has struck again, here’s another try:

CLAW131

Yep, and then there’s one of my all time favorite songs “The Wreck of the Old 97”.

Look it up, great tune.

How’s things going with the home care for the wife? Hope it’s better.

3/17 Air Cav

Claw…….it’s not fun watching someone you care about wasting away. I’m not real optimistic. This site actually keeps me balanced.

3/17 Air Cav…I just read your post from yesterday. I don’t know what’s happening in your life or family but I offer my prayers of support for you and all of yours. God bless and keep you all Brother.

Thunderstixx

Oh yes, remember 3/17 we are a big part of your family too my friend.
I’ll join in the prayers for you that God’s will be done, whatever that is.

A Proud Infidel®™

Prayers Out, 3/17.

SJ

I grew up in a railroad family. Dad was a Trainmaster for the SAL and later SCL. He’d put me on a yard steam engine and i’d sit next to the fireman and shovel coal. I worked summers as a Call Boy and Car Knocker. Really. I can describe these if anyone GAS. Other than the rudder gays.

A Proud Infidel®™

I do, I enjoy hearing and reading railroad stories about those days, I also enjoy collecting model trains representing the late steam/ early diesel era.

A Proud Infidel®™

ELECTRIC TRAINS, anyone? NO JOKE, here’s a clip of the Iowa Traction Railroad, THE LAST Electric Interurban railroad left in the USA.

Thunderstixx

Where is that at???

A Proud Infidel®™

That short line runs from Mason City to Clear Lake, Iowa. Their trains are very easy to chase and photograph due to their 15 MPH operating speed!

CLAW131

Clear Lake, Iowa?

Isn’t that where the music died 56 years ago this past Tuesday, the 3rd of February?

Friend S. Wilkins

My Grandpa put in over 40 years at Grand Trunk RR (Port Huron) after he got out of the Army back in 1947.

The video here was taken right in my hometown of Wyandotte, Michigan (1981 to 2000). The building on the left is American Legion Post 477. Ah, the memories….

Ex-PH2

Oooo! Big trains! Real trains! When I was a kid, all of us would go to the railroad crossing as soon as we heard the locomotive and wave at the engineers in the cab.

Real train noises. I miss that simple kind of stuff.

Thanks, Proud.

A Proud Infidel®™

Like I said earlier, I’ve been a “Railnerd” ever since I was a kid. Other kids would watch TV, I’d ride my bike to the local railyard and watch them do switching and local runs, sometimes lucking out and getting rides in the cab, which was hog heaven for me!

Ex-PH2

When I left RTC(W) at Bainbridge, MD, I took a through train to my home town in central Illinois. It went through tunnels, past the hills and coal mines of West Virginia, up through Pennsylvania past a town with a blast furnace going that lit up the night sky.

The dining car was great, the conductors and porters were really nice people, and I could sit and watch things go past me. Didn’t have to change trains, because the line went to Chicago and then southwest toward St. Louis and then on to Kansas City, with stops along the way.

It was civilized. It beat air travel all hollow. Then after a brief visit with the parental units, I went down to Pensacola on another through train and got off at the Birmingham station with a couple of other WAVES and a CPO (real one).

We were all headed for Pensacola. We all got on the Greyhound together. The Chief was going to Chiefs’ school at the Naval Air Station, so we girls all stuck with him until we got to our destination.

Good times.

A Proud Infidel®™

It’s fun to try and guess which railroads you traveled on, I’m assuming you took either C&O or B&O out of MD?

Ex-PH2

I’m guessing, too, but probably B&O, switching at Union Station in Chicago to another locomotive to go south.

A Proud Infidel®™

If it weren’t for the Frisco (SLSF, or St. Louis & San Francisco RR)’s discontinuance of passenger service in 1965, you’d have been able to take the train from B’ham to Pensacola!

Ex-PH2

If it weren’t for Amtrak and the discontinuance of most passenger lines, I could have saved myself a bundle of cash instead of driving from Chicago to Decatur and back to visit my folks.

But Amtrak eliminated all but about 20% of the pssenger routes and you’re stuck with what’s left.

A Proud Infidel®™

Norfolk and Western (N&W) #611, coming soon to Norfolk Southern Railroad mainlines! Originally built at the N&W Shops in Roanoke, VA to haul passenger trains such as “The Powhatan Arrow”, she’s currently undergoing mechanical overhaul at The Historic Spencer Shops in NC.

A Proud Infidel®™

#611 is a “4-8-4”, meaning she has a 4-wheel “pony truck” in front, 8 driving wheels, and a 4-wheel trailing truck under the cab.

Ex-PH2

There is some company that buys up the old passenger rail cars and completely restores them, does a beautiful job.

And there is a regular train from Colorado to Cheyenne, WY, and back, for the rodeo.

A Proud Infidel®™

Yeah, that one’s pulled by either UP 844 or 3985.

Instinct

Did a computer model of the Empire State Express for my modeling class in grad school.

Came out pretty damn nice. Love those old trains.

A Proud Infidel®™

Here’s ONE MORE video on N&W 611, I hope my “Proudinfidelvideoitis” doesn’t act up again:

http://fireup611.org/fire-up-611-video/

Ex-PH2

Here’s a little something.

UpNorth

One of the many times my oldest son was stationed at 29 Palms, we flew out to visit for a week. We took the Amtrak Southwest Chief back, from Victorville, Ca. to Chicago, then the Pere Marquette from Chicago to Grand Rapids.
That was a sweet trip.

Thunderstixx

I rode this one to Anchorage from Fairbanks. Was that a ride. Damn…

SJ

There’s a pretty good railroad museum in Savannah. It’s based in an old Roundhouse.

A Proud Infidel®™

It’s been about 15 years since I was last there, that’s an old C of G (Central of Georgia) roundhouse. I’ve also heard that a Revolutionary War battle was fought on that site as well. Savannah, GA is hog heaven for history buffs too, and I loved the night life on River Street!

Ex-PH2

We’re supposed to have warmer weather, but I put salt out, just in case. Then colder again, then warm again. I can’t keep track.

Oh, well, at least my plumbing is up to snuff. And I have a pound of ground beef thawing for chili. I think next week, I’ll get some more and make lasagna with TexMex flavors instead of pasta sauce. Also, I will indulge in tortilla soup.

nbcguy54

At least the salt should keep the slugs like Bernasty & Co away.

Ex……doing short ribs tomorrow in the Ninja slow cooker! Yumee do!

I don’t know if you have done my recipe for moms beans. If not you must it’s a keeper. Another thing, the movie A New Leaf. I told you about it in the past its a must see if you like Walter Matheau, and I know you do. Go one line and get it you will never regret it

Written orders to follow! Smile

Ex-PH2

I do have that, in my recipes file.

Slow-cooker ribs sound good. And roasted potato wedges, a big plate of sliced tomatoes and cut veggies, and a fruit & cheese board for dessert. Consumed with a craft beer from a local brewer, outstanding.

Yes, I do love old Walt. ‘A New Leaf’ is on YouTube, and my favorite of his movies is ‘Hopscotch’, with Glenda Jackson.

David

add one more – “House Calls” which spun off a successful TV series.

A Proud Infidel®™

Walter Matthau was one cool dude, I like watching him and Jack Lemmon duel in “Grumpy Old Men” and “Grumpier Old Men” with the lovely Mrs. Proud Infidel®™ cuddling up to me, she loves those flicks as well!

SJ

I was informed that this site off limits? Even if I have a DD 214?

There was a suspicious person here today that seemed like CID. He was in uniform (brown shorts) driving a brown truck. Looked like he could be a SlUpEr. But he wasn’t drunk and he didn’t have a bald head in a fake cop car wearing a AF helmet with “Hollywood” on it so I don’t know what to think. Wait…he was eating spaghetti! And, the door on my mail box is missing!

Ex-PH2

I thought CID was replaced with NCIS.

But what do I know?

SJ

CID=Army version of NCIS

Sapper3307

CID = Rats
IMHO

A Proud Infidel®™

I think you just insulted rats everywhere!

A Proud Infidel®™

Hey, yet another day passed by without a Deputy serving me papers or a visit from the *SLUUURRP*man that was promised.

OAE CPO USN Ret

At one point Bernath created a americanlegion.us website that he put all of his drivel on.

Today I am happy to announce that if you enter americanlegion.us into your browser, then it will instead go to the real American Legion website.

All that catheter money spent on buying that domain, gone to waste.

A Proud Infidel®™

It couldn’t happen to a nicer critter.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA… 😀

MIKE THE GRUNT

what’s catheter money?

MIKE THE GRUNT

Ex-PH2

Catheter money is money that gets pissed away on balderdash, nonsense and skittles.

OAE CPO USN Ret

Birdbath claims that because of his alleged exposure to Agent Orange that his bladder doesn’t function properly and he must use a catheter instead.

Yet somehow he’s also talked about peeing into a old coffee cup while flying in his plane and just tossing the cup out the window.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

His own words …

Old Trooper

Here’s a little something that describes the four doorknobs of the Apocalypse.

Silentium Est Aureum

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around how someone like Bernath, who has no way to track visitors to this site, can get the IP address of military visitors here and post them.

Does this mean I’m going to get an NJP now? Aw, damn.

SJ

ghostery.com Just sayin’. . .

SJ

or maybe buffer machines are history? In the 60’s the buffer WAS NJP and First Sgt extra duty

CLAW131

SJ, I think floor buffers have went the way of KP,sew on stripes and patches, Quartermaster Laundry, breaking starch, spit shined boots, and on the spot corrections.

The younguns today have no idea of life in the “old days” and how small things like that were character builders.

SJ

you mean like the strategery to get up at 0300 to stand by the door of the mess hall to be first in line so as to get DRO KP rather than pots and pans or grease traps?:-)

Joe Williams

Claw say it ain’t so.I would not last 0 minutes as a E-4 in today’s military. So how do we keep turning such outstanding servicemen in all branches?Yes I know Old Corps a young recuiter already called e that. No calling Attention while on the rope crawl then smoking recuit for not holding the position of Attenton while falling in the muddy water? Joe

3/17 Air Cav

Claw…. Spiff the barracks, get rousted outside by the DI. Stand around doing nothing while waiting for the mess hall to open. Fort Lewis in Nov is cold and damp. Slide into the laundry room and put dimes in the dryer to warm up. That’s the kinder, gentler Army I remember!

CLAW131

7 Feb 1971. Ft. Campbell Reception Center. Was starting my fourth full day in the Army.

I was “gently” reminded in morning formation that shaving the night before was not quite satisfactory.

Hello Cam Ranh Bay, C-130 up to Phu Bai for duty with the Black Widows AHC.

Perry Gaskill

Interesting route to get in country, Claw. Kinda makes you wonder how the Army decided who would go where in what way.

My own in March ’71 was Travis AFB near San Francisco to Anchorage, Alaska then to Yokota AFB near Tokyo then to Bien Hoa near Saigon.

If you were on your way to I Corps, why’d you come in at Cam Ranh and not Da Nang?

CLAW131

Perry, no idea as to the whys or how comes. I just when where I was told to go. I guess the replacement system worked by MOS and alphabet.

My brother had come into country earlier at Tuy Hoa and then stayed in the IFFV area with 1/22 INF.

Maybe they wanted to keep the two of us as far apart as possible, so I was sent to beautiful north Phu Bai.

Hack Stone

Way back in the day, when Hack was a lot younger, skinnier and faster, and also happened to be in Boot Camp, Hack would shave every other day. UNTIL the day that Sgt Jones plucked that one hair from Hack’s face. There was a guy that I went to comm school with that legend he was required to shave twice a day. He had a perpetual Fred Flintstone/Homer Simpson 17:00 shadow going for him.

Seadog

The last job I had before basic was as an evening janitor. The owner, Danny, was missing one arm from the elbow down. He taught me the finer nuances of running a buffer.

Flash forward a few months and I’m in USAF basic. One of our first evenings, we have our first GI party. The TI looks around and voluntolds me to man the buffer and he will instruct me on the proper techniques for handling the beast. He did tell us everything, but he stressed you had to use a death grip on it so it wouldn’t get away. When he told me to fire it up and it didn’t sling me all around, he gave it to another individual, who promptly got slung across the room. Afterwards, he asked me how I knew how to use it and I explained about Danny. From that point on, I was the lead of the “buffer crew”. Beat “latrine queen” though.

Utah just came through with my CCW, now I can carry in many states, except of course the one I happen to live in. On a brighter note, here’s a side dish that rocks!

Greek-Style Oven-Roasted Lemon-Butter Parmesan Potatoes
Ingredients:
• 3 lbs potatoes
• 1 cup chicken broth
• 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 cup butter, melted (no substitutes)
• 1 teaspoon oregano (or to taste)
• 1 tablespoon fresh minced garlic (optional or to taste)
• salt and pepper
• 1/2-3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (or to taste)
• chopped fresh parsley
Directions:
Set oven to 375 degrees.
Butter a shallow baking dish large enough to hold the potatoes.
Peel and cut the potatoes into large wedges and place into the prepared baking dish.
In a bowl combine the broth, lemon juice, butter, oregano, salt, pepper and minced garlic (if using); mix well to combine.
Pour over potatoes in the dish and stir to coat well.
Cover the dish tightly with foil.
Bake for about 40 minutes.
Uncover and turn potatoes.
Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, and return to oven (uncovered).
Bake for another 20-30 minutes, or until potatoes are done to desired tenderness.
Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and serve.

On another note completely unrelated to Bernadette Bernasty or Wickretard, I’m dying to know if there’s going to be any more books in the Mike Harmon/Kildar series. I know Ringo is busy with the Graveyard Sky series, which I may or may not read–never was into zombie stuff, except “Zombieland,” ’cause that shit was funny, but I’m getting a bit desperate for my Kildar fix, and rereading the previous books in the series just ain’t cutting it anymore.

Actual sign in front of a Florida business:

WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 ISIS TERRORISTS THAN WITH ONE SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER.

This sign was prominently displayed in front of a business in Florida and you are probably outraged at the thought of such an inflammatory sign.
However, we are a society which holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps one of our greatest liberties. And after all, it is only a sign, right?

Thanks, Ex. I love me some Patsy to death.

Also Donna Groom, the high voice for Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners. Talk about your multi-talented gal, she’s got it going on.

CLAW131

3/17, I’ve been meaning to ask you if you were a Loach Gunner or did you work out of the lift platoons with your Blues?

Not trying to be nosy, just wanting to keep the conversation going now that most of the Eastern and Central Time Zone people have retired for the night.

3/17 Air Cav

Claw……..I beat the bush with the 1st. Cav for a number of weeks. Then they stood down and were sent back to Fort Hood Texas. I was transferred to the 1/9 Cav out of Dian for a few weeks. Then I was transferred to HHT 3/17 Air Cav. I came within a whisker of being sent back to the bush. Thank god I was not. I flew on Huey UH1H models. We flew mostly support and courier missions. When I menioned above about almost being sent back to the bush. I think the thing that saved me was I had a CIB. I think they thought I was a seasoned troop. Which I was not. I had been around just enough to know the bush was a spot I didi not want to return to! When I think back on the whole thing I served with high profile outfits. When people ask me about that time I make it real clear that I was most definitely not a war hero. I call it my lucky time. For the most part I was lucky enough to stay out of harms way. My total focus was to come back home and continue my baseball career.

Twist

This is one of the things I love about this site. As a young pup of 40 years I get to read things about my brothers and sisters in arms from an older war.

Ex-PH2

Claw, I signed up on my 21st birthday (today, 1967).

My mother thought it was a horrible idea.

My father thought it was a good idea.

Guess who met me at the train station after boot camp?

2/17 Air Cav

Happy birthday, Ex! And happy enlistment anniversary, too! Enjoy your day.

Ex-PH2

Thanks, AirCav. Same to you when yours comes up, many times over.

Laundry is done, sidewalk shoveled, streets cleared, sun is shining.

I think this will be a very productive day in the literary sense.

Happy Cake and Candle Day Ex-PH2
Sending love and best wishes for a wonderful year from Dublin 🙂 <3

Ex-PH2

Dublin?!?

Are you going to any ceilidhs?

Full report PLEEEEEEZE when you get back.

Toasty Coastie

Yes ma’am…I will send you all the details and maybe a cd or two of some of my fave ceilidhs and some books/cookbooks from my fave castles and pubs 😀

3/17 Air Cav

Toasty……fifteen or so years ago I took a trip to the UK then on to Dublin. Stay away from the blood sausage. On a lighter note I have a affinity for redheads. While in Dublin, I was in heaven. I made sure I had my sun glasses on so my wife could not see me ogling them as we walked down the sidewalks of Dublin.

Silentium Est Aureum

Ireland–great breakfasts. Crappy dinners. At least that was my impression when I was there.

Toasty Coastie

@3/17 Air Cav~
Roger that on blood sausage..that stuff is just plain gross no matter how its prepared…

You and my husband both like redheads….he married me lol…not only am I Irish, I also I have curly red hair, the proverbial “Irish temper” and a passion for Guinness and Jameson’s lol poor buggar..but he’s a good one and speaking as a wife, I always know when he oggles other lass’ and I am sure your beautiful wife does too 🙂 We don’t mine though cause we know your hearts belong to us 😀

David

there’s a pub in Temple Car that bills itself as ‘Dublin’s second largest brewery’ – their double porter is the stuff of dreams. There’s another (I think Kavanaugh’s?) which abuts the back of the big cemetery on the North side which is known as the Gravedigger’s Pub. And the Cat & Cage on Upper Drumcondra used to be the hangout of the former Taoseach, Bertie Ahern.

OWB

Ahhhh. Nothing quite as good as the potatoes and diary products in Ireland. Especially out in the countryside. Best potato soup I ever consumed was there. Heavenly. A simple boiled potato with fresh butter on it. Yum.

CLAW131

Happy Birthday to you also,Ex.

I had another one of those just 11 days ago.

Got to eat half a blueberry cheesecake pie as my present.

Ex-PH2

Happy birthday, Claw, and many, many more.

Toasty Coastie

@Claw131

Happy Belated Cake and Candle Day to you as well. 😀

Big Steve

Hey… happy birthday!

Sparks

Happy, Happy Birthday Ex!!! Many wonderful returns of the day as well.

3/17 Air Cav

Ex………..Happy Bday Ex, we have all traveled a lot of road since the sixties. Some good, some not so good. Whenever I read one of your comments, I associate your words with that photo of you from back in the day. The little hottie Ex. I bet you were a handful. Am I right?

Ex-PH2

A handful? Moi? No, not really. I was polite. I seldom cussed or used naughty words. Butter would not have melted anywhere near me.

Then I joined the Navy and that made me into a whole person, instead of a simpering little princess. Butter now turns liquid and spatters. 😉

It would be nice to be that young, skinny and fit again with no arthritis. Spring is coming. Looking forward to it.

Please give your wife my regards, 3/17AirCav.

All of you, thank you very much and the same to you all when it comes around. I made 2 small lemon cakes last night. One of them is gone. There is a reason your mother told you to not OD on sweets.

3/17 Air Cav

Ex……..thanks for the shoutout to my wife. Your right about the aches and pains of age. Most of mine relate to my baseball days. Left knee aches some. Throwing shoulder has some wear and tear. Every year I go back to school to see my old teammates. A lot of knee replacement, shoulder surgery. I’ve been pretty lucky. I am 5’10 and 180. I played at 175 so I’ve been fortunate in keeping the weight off.

I did some research on fool proof investments last night. And I found out that anybody can take out a life insurance policy on our glider pilot. Its looks like a rock solid investment.

Sapper3307

For humanity yes.

nbcguy54

Hack Stone

Hack was discussing the Paul Wickre – Karen Williams dynamics, and everyone keeps asking why she continues to hitch her wagon to this dying star. The only answer that I can think of is that she has a shitload of life insurance policies on his stupid ass, and one way or another, he will check out by a fatal DUI accident, an encounter with law enforcement not impressed with his superior Nordic genetics, or most likely autoerotic asphyxiation. Karen, if you are reading this, you may want to check to make sure that he has been making those payments. I would be willing to bet that he let the policies lapse, and he withdraw any funds that were left in order to maintain his fleet of classic Yugos.

How do you folks look for new comments here? The ones at the end of a post are easy…it’s the ones that are tied to an earlier comment. The listing on the right moves pretty quick when there is something interesting going on and stuff disappears. For instance, someone did a bump on the Chevy thread and it was pushed off the list in very short order. The only option I know of is scroll through each thread and that takes too much time. There’s no option to see new comments (since last visit) I presume. Tnx.

2/17 Air Cav

No, you can’t find new comments unless you use the list of the 15 latest comments or scroll through a thread. The former has a very limited shelf life and the latter is tedious. I suppose the only way to get around it is to reference a comment by tag and date/time of posting and stick it on the bottom as a new comment, not a reply.

OWB

Yep, that’s the down side of this improved thing. Sure hope they are seeing huge improvements behind the scenes because it’s unpleasant here on the public side.

SJ

I don’t mean to bitch about the system used here…that’s the MMFIC’s choice. I was just wondering if you folks had found a work around that I am missing.

OWB

With you there, SJ!

Ex-PH2

I just plow my way through it, SJ, and hope for the best.

Who the eff is the jackass in the pic at top of this thread. Am I actually seeing an Air Force uniform tape, with Army jump wings, and a SEAL trident??

I just read a story about a former barber. He’s 95 now and spent WW II in Auschwitz, as a prisoner. He survived because he was not just any barber: he was the commandant’s barber. The commandant, Rudolf Hoess, was a sadistic SOB who was hanged in 1947 for war crimes. The question was put to the barber why he didn’t slit the bastard’s throat. He replied, “I thought about it, but when I realized what the consequences would be I simply could not do it.”

Dave Hardin

I was not a big fan of blocking him, it was a matter of time until he sank his own ship. However, there is something very insidious about the way you went about it that is genius. He will assume of course that the collective here at TAH have been ordered not to respond. It will be seen as another conspiracy. I would delete all of these comments until he figured it out on his own.

Ex-PH2

I think my real question is why, when the VA will give you a vaccination for shingles (varicella), he didn’t go and get it? You just go to the walk-in clinic, sign up for what you want, and wait to be called.

SJ

At first I was sad that doofus had been blocked but then I realized how many projects I knocked out today with him in exile. Before, I just HAD to watch the Train Wreck that is Bernasty. I could not pull myself away.

But alas, active duty will be UCMJ’d for coming to TAH since Bernasty’s warnings will not be seen. How will I know that the black Suburbans are coming for me? No longer will we know how many have been arrested for being here.

And, most concerning, we won’t know if Bernasty made his cross-country with the dog duct taped with gas left over.

Before the exile, I was going to ask why the other 3 DRC members weren’t helping Dan out with the postings?

Joe Williams

I would like the opinions of the TAH readers. I am debating with myself about applying for a PH for the injuries the helo accident of Jan 7, 1967. The back injury was the cause for my Med Sep under Honorable conditions. This injury kept me out of many good jobs. As soon as you say back injury, you hear Sorry we can’t hire you, our insurance will not us. This will not increase my rating and I am aleady rated over a 100%. What do you the readers think? Everbody throught somebody would write it up so nobody did. Joe

Jordan Rott

Well if you got fucked up halo jumping into Vietnam, then why not? Plus, if you halo jumped into Vietnam that is badass. But was it just a jump that went bad or was it a jump that went bad due to the actions of the enemy?

CLAW131

Jordan, Joe is not talking about HALO jumping. He is speaking of a Marine Helicopter accident he was involved in.

Joe, I think applying for a PH now after 48 years would be an exercise in futility. But if you decide to go ahead with it, good luck!!

Jordan Rott

AHHHH, helo not Halo

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Absolutely! However, hostile fire is a prerequisite. If you can prove both … you are good.

Jordan Rott

My apologizes for the misunderstanding, but to be fair HALO did exist back then. Did your helicopter get shot down? You absolutely should apply for it, this past November I received a PH and given the events of the situation I would be pretty pissed if I would not have. I don’t know how you let it go this long without getting to you, but you 100% should do it.

Joe Williams

Cause I am still walking and talking and two others are not. Not walking so well some days but still have all my limbs. I kept thinking that I would recover to 100%.Also a matter of pride we did think of what medal can i get. For us was what do we need to do to complete the mission. Joe

Jordan Rott

Fully understand that, I nor do I think anyone in the military does the actions they do for medals, but when the action is said and done you should get it if you deserve it.

CLAW131

Joe, were you assigned to HMM-163 at Phu Bai?

The reason I’m asking is that some of the hooches in our company area had “Genie Eyes/Evil Eyes” painted on some of the walls and we were told that they were leftovers from the Marine Squadron that had been there before my outfit moved from LZ Sally over to Phu Bai.

Jordan Rott

I am so jealous of you Vietnam Vets. I wish i was born 38 years earlier.

HMM-163 started as a 34 squadron and 46s at Phu Bai. I was in the 34s, HMM-362 at Ky Ha, Phu Bai and Marble Mountain. We had the vietnamese wargod with lighing bolts. We left our tailart on huets. Joe

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Are ANY crew members still alive and do you have an incident and or accident report. Each time an aircraft is damaged, destroyed or lost an official report of disposition is required.

Typically such reports detail everything with respect to incident.

I would start there!

Chief there is my health record the accident report. A short write up in Popasmoke with my name . My maintence chief is still alive. Our squadron has a high rate of cancer.A couple of other crew chief and gunners left,it was a Blt lift and insertion. That means all flyable birds are comitted. Joe

Fortunately, some of us have better things to do than be concerned with what that clown is doing. Unfortunately, y’all get to deal with it whether the rest of us are aware or not.

Using just about any definition going, that one and his associates are insane. No other explanation is possible given their fixation on people with whom they have never had any interaction, their compulsion to do and say things which can hurt only themselves, their lack of any ability to filter themselves, and a plethora of other goofy things they have said and done publicly in the face of all manner of opposition including court orders to do otherwise.

Sad, pitiful beings with some inexplainable desire to share their misery far and wide.

Here is something to think about in regard to computers and where they are going.

After megabyte comes gigabyte, then terabyte. After terabyte comes a petabyte then exabyte then zettabyte then Yottabyte.

After yottabyte comes brontobyte. (per Forbes magazine and WhatsaByte)

A brontobyte hard drive has a storage capacity of 1,000 yottabytes. (1,000 x 1152921504606846976 megabytes)

According to Forbes, industry experts have already coined the term brontobyte, but as of 2014, no official name has yet been announced for future gigantic capacity storage devices.

Although brontobyte hard drives already have massive capacities of data storage, manufacturers are already setting their sights to a device than can hold approximately 1,000 brontobytes of storage space.

The unofficial term coined for this storage device is geopbyte.

A geopbyte = 1,000 brontobytes = 1,000,000 x 1,152,921,504,606,846,976 megabytes

That is read this way: 1 quintillion, 152 quadrillion, 921 trillion, 504 billion, 606 million, 846 thousand, 976 megabytes.

Skynet goes online at 12:14PM CST on Oct. 10.

CLAW131

Huh? The only thing I understood about that whole thing is byte (now I’m hungry for supper) and if Skynet goes on line on October 10th, it should be at 12:14 PM CDT.

Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time changeover for this year is 8 March and reverses on 1 November./smile

OWB

Interesting choice of time. But why not just October 10 at 10:10? Or at least 10-10-2015 at 12:15 instead of 12:14?

(Or was that article old enough, PH, that it actually came on line last year?)

Ex-PH2

The article was a 2010 article cached in a chat room that I ran across while searching for some information on data storage, how much is stored and what comes after petabyte and zettabyte.

I was surprised at the amount of room available on data storage cards for digital cameras, because they have been designed now for video storage, and each video frame represents XKb or XXMb. These current flash cards now have more storage room than my perfectly functioning antique 2003 computer. If I choose to, I can pay to have my computer reconditioned with a 2TB hard drive, or just buy one for a fourth of the amount I paid for this one.

I was humbled, until I realized that an entire starship (in my story) could be programmed to function independently based on data stored in the hull of said starship. The sci-fi example is Moia, the Leviathan brainship from ‘Farscape’, which frequently displayed a mind of its own.

Re: CST v. CDT: what if the CPU in such a computer decides that changing hourly systems by the seasons is no longer necessary? And what if at some point, every PC CPU online becomes the equivalent of a planetwide neural net? That was the concept behind Skynet.

Skynet became self-aware at 02:14 (am) EDT on August 29 in ‘Judgment Day’. I just chose the lunch hour on an October day at random.

I found it very interesting that these data storage engineers are thinking as far ahead as they are, but I guess I should have expected it. After all, when I was 7, we had a 2-party phone line. The speed at which this is happening seems to increase exponentially with time.

Ex-PH2
