White House droned
I know this is just a distraction from any real news, but according to the Washington Post‘s top story, the President got droned early this morning and the Secret Service is doing a grid search of the area;
It said the drone was spotted about 3:08 a.m. flying at a low altitude onto the White House grounds, crashing on the southeastern side.
It was not immediately clear whether the Obama children, Malia and Sasha, were at the White House when the device was discovered before dawn. They were under the care of their grandmother, who also lives at the White House.
“There is a device that has been recovered by the Secret Service at the White House,” Earnest said when asked if a drone was found. “The early indications are that it does not pose any sort of ongoing threat to anybody at the White House.”
Well, “someone” left a nasty comment that they wanted to talk about this, so here you go…I don’t particularly give a shit about it at all. Like I said, it’s a distraction from Yemen, Syria, Africa, the Philippines. It’s like this stupid snow storm that happens every January that everyone is wetting themselves over.
Category: Barack Obama/Joe Biden
well, you shocked me… I thought “droned” referred to the State of the Union address.
I’ve been commenting for a long time that if a hobbyist like me can make a drone that uses a standard cell phone GPS chip to navigate to waypoints, hover and take images of the area that someone with more money and effort could build a small drone and create a serious problem.
Using a drone to carry 6-8 ounces of explosives isn’t quite the same as dropping a hellfire missile into a housing complex but it can still be setup to kill people remotely, and that is where the dangerous nature of this becomes reality.
Precision munitions: Six ounces correctly placed is more lethal than the 500 pounder a coupla streets over.
The Philippines? What did I miss? And if I ever get my hands on that stupid SOB who asked for this thread, why I’ll…Whoa! Look at the time. Gotta run.
43 Filipino Special Forces troops were killed in combat with al Qaeda this weekend.
Any NSW troops involved? That IS their lane!
about 30 special ops police were killed when they entered a village in the south looking for some AQ linked muslim terrorist who has been in hiding in the south since about 2005 I think.
I want to go on record … I was not near the White House early this morning nor do I own and never have I ever operated a drone!
Well then, you won’t get that new USAF Drone Op Medal.
Chevy was bragging about owning a drone and using it for surveillance. http://caacsir.blogspot.com/2014/04/welcome-to-new-site-for-chevalier-and.html Scroll to bottom.
Of course, he bragged about flying a C130-H Compass Call over Iraq too.
Okay, nevermind.
//sidenote – I am actually thinking about buying a DJI drone platform and using it to make sales videos for farm and ranch real estate listings.
GDContractor…Okay, now you’ve asked for it. There will soon be a liberal call for legislation to serial number, register sales and do background checks on everyone who owns, buys or resales an RC plane or helicopter. This should make this long standing, pro American modeling organization in all of its many clubs and national organizations really happy.
So you’re saying that Bateman is going to pry my drone from my cold dead fingers? He needs another hobby.
Wait until the first time a private citizen builds one that’s armed. There won’t be enough Valium in the world…
If you go to youtube and search RC helicopters, you’ll find that they exist already. The record payload is about 65 lbs. At least, that’s what I would say if I were interested in this thread. I’m still looking for that SOB…
Hmmm 65 pounds is about 30 kilos
warhead payload of an AGM–114 is 8 or 9 kilos, splat!
20 kilos make BIG noise
Doesn’t the navy have some kind of fixed gun that shoots fast enough to kill something like this?
maybe one of those laser devices or make GPS fail if within half a mile of the WH?
“Doesn’t the navy have some kind of fixed gun that shoots fast enough to kill something like this?”
You must mean the Phalanx or CIWS or as we claimed its name broke out to “Captain, It Won’t Shoot.”
Puts up a wall of lead to take down anti-ship missiles. Point defense weapon.
I made the mistake of being out on the main deck when they fired one of them. Holy SHIT it was loud!
For sure, rather than a drone, based on the amount of hot air he expends … he should be advertising the latest in “hot air baloon technologies.”
Just sayin’!
While I’d suspect that the windows to the White House are a little more “fortified” than your regular Home Depot stuff, those small aircraft would be difficult to defend against. Not exactly like they’d show up on a radar, and while they can’t do a ‘lot’ of damage, how much do you need to fly it into the Oval office window and cause damage ?
The Secret Service needs to equip a few people with 16ga shotguns and birdshot. That should be enough to bring down a drone.
Or a really, really big net over the WH property. That would work.
Speaking of the latest January snowstorm….Historic proportions and storm of the century …..until the next one. It happens almost every year. I’m getting tired of it. We got almost seven feet of snow here last November and it was panic in the streets, exacerbated by the governor taking over the direction of the snow removal response. His presence and inability to let the locals stay in charge kept many areas from ever seeing a plow for a week.
Just sayin…”But no one needs ten bullets to kill a deeah”, just a plug for the SAFE act.
Well, this is getting downright hilarious now. The latest report is that a man contacted authorities to say that he inadvertently flew the RC birdie onto the grounds of the WH. He is a government employee. I’m guessing that graveyard shift is really horrible. The RC landed about 3:00 a.m.
Maybe it’s just me, but the only part of this “headline” story that caught my attention was the blurb about Barry’s kids, and that Mooch’s mom lives at the White House, too. Just how many distant relations are my tax dollars supporting?
The number is inestimable.
So, some guy fessed up to owning the drone and he says it was an accident. But, I don’t know of anyone who flies drones around restricted airspace at 3 AM that don’t have something up their sleeve.
