LTC Gerald H. Green; yep
The Army Times reports that the leadership at Fort Benning has concluded it’s investigation of LTC Gerald H. Green, the fellow who commanded the Fort Benning-based Army National Guard Warrior Training Center for a brief period before it was revealed that his Ranger and Sapper Tabs were of the pin-on variety, not of the earned variety;
Because actions taken against Lt. Col. Gerald H. Green III were “administrative and not criminal in nature,” a Benning spokesman would not discuss details of the investigation.
[…]
Benning spokesman Gary Jones would not comment on other findings from the investigation, including whether Green wore other unearned decorations. Green is authorized to wear a Bronze Star Medal among several other honors, including three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and campaign medals from Iraq and Kosovo, according to personnel information provided by Jones to Army Times on Tuesday.
Dude is still in uniform, though, even if that uniform is worn slightly different than it was before. I sure hope they keep him away from troops. But, it’s nice that the other officers are helping him get to his retirement. Isn’t it? Too bad Jim Calhoun, the WO2 who did the same thing essentially didn’t have friends like that.
Now tell us about the investigation on Bowe Bergdahl, please.
Category: Phony soldiers, Shitbags
So they’re kicking officers out who are deployed, but letting this turd-blossom stick around huh? Sounds about right…
The only consistency in the Army is that there is no consistency.
So, here’s my second contestant for the first active duty dbag contest: Him and 1sg Moersk
Having worked with and around him, I’m not shocked. He’ll quietly return to the metro DC area and sit at a desk for the next three years. By then, his bad OER won’t be seen by the ARNG title 10 board system and he might make it through the REFRAD boards given his previous assignments.
If I ever see him in Class A again, I’m going to have to look for that ARCOM w/V device and CAB. I’m guessing that they won’t be there.
Bobo
I hope that you are wrong, but hope is not a method.
My wild ass guess here is that he got a permanent file GO LOR and an article 15, and that he is being held in place (Ft. Benning) to ensure that Big Army has control of him and his records for the next round of elimination boards.
What I wonder about is how far back was the investigating officer able to substaniate that the douche wore these awards? Every rank were it can be shown that he wore them is then “not served honorably” for retirement purposes and will result in a pretty severe penalty in terms of retired pay and rank.
I think that this course of action was alot easier than a court marshall and may end up with his exit sooner rather than later.
As you say you served with him, do you remember him wearing these awards as a MAJ/CPT?
I’ve only known him as an LTC, but rumor has it that he’s been wearing that’ stuff since he came into the title 10 program.
Under the current construct, he won’t see a REFRAD board until he hits 18 years AFS, and then he will still be in sanctuary and able to retire at 20.
Green has to fill a title 10 slot, and he’s not filling the one at the WTC. There aren’t many at Benning, and a lot back at the ARNG Readiness Center. Historically, the guys who step on their crank in the field get pulled back and hidden away so they don’t embarrass the organization. I have a feeling that I know exactly where he’ll end up, but I’ll wait and see if in right.
There is a waiting line to plant a 10 1/2 in Jim Calhoun’s ass for disgracing our Corps, but the dirt bag still is a CWO2, not WO2. For those of the Air Force persuasion, a CWO is equivalent to a colonel. Don’t take my word for this, ask any Army CWO.
Way to do the right thing, Army.
This dude is a sack of shit.
He should be tossed out.
I bet he has all of his SHARP training checkmarked and has no tatoos.
That would explain it.
Unfortunately, whether or not this gets him thrown out depends on who he knows and who he blows!
The peacetime Army is all about politics. Combat proficiency isn’t necessary. Just look at the Clinton years.
as an aside – to the last line:
Calling Bergdahl “Sergeant” FEELS like stolen valor. Just weird. :-/
This is my surprised face. Ive been asked many times why I am so distrustful of officers and here is another reason why. There was a 4/31 E-5 back in 04 that was bused for wearing an unearned Ranger tab while deployed in iraq. I can’t remember the guys name to save my life, but he was busted down to e-4 mid deoloyment, was not allowed to leave the wire the rest of the tour, and I was told he was chaptered upon redeployment. Guy was on his third deployment as an infantryman when this happened. Yet, an officer who us supposed to be setting the example for brand new soldiers coming into the army gets a slap on the wrist and it’s brushed under the rug. Aside from Roy Tisdale, I didn’t like any of the officers I served with.
Disclaimer, not saying there are not many good officers, just that the ones I had expirience with were more interested in kissing ass to advance their careers then looking after their joes. Roy Tisdale refused a transfer after his promotion to major so he could deploy with us as our CO
I witnessed a similar incident in 2004 where an E-5 was busted for wearing an unearned Ranger tab. This happened in Kuwait a few days before we were set to move north. However, unlike in your example, they did not demote the guy (who until that point was one of the most respected men in the unit; an older guy from the Gulf War who returned to the Army). Instead, I watched as the senior NCOs sent him (11B) to a far-flung line unit and then proceeded to call the leaders in that unit to tell them exactly what the phony Ranger had done.
In this instance, I cannot see how this LTC is permitted to remain in the Army unless he successfully contested a discharge through a board. Anything short of a board decision saving his career, the LTC has demonstrated a complete lack of integrity and honor, and is an affront to the Army values.
Oops… The fake Ranger guy was busted in 2005. Losing my mind.
Don’t apologize. Good officers are extremely rare to any enlisted doing anything important. Most of mine were complete shitbags. Had one give us a don’t drink and drive brief then that weekend he does and wrecks himself. Had one that would volunteer us for everything then dip out to do whatever else. Would cheat on humps putting a pillow in his pack. Had another that later was convicted of child porn.
Thrse were supposedly the top 10% cream of the crop. Dudes falling out of humps and shit. Give me a break.
It’s just…asshattery. WTF.
Years ago I knew of an AGR LTC who received an Article 15 for wearing an unauthorized Silver Star. Although I don’t think he was subsequently chaptered out, I don’t think he remained an AGR very much longer either. It’s possible that something like this may be in store for Green.
“The higher you go…the higher the standards.”
This equates to at least a blanket party…not a sham letter of reprimand.
Do the right thing US Army.. .kick his ass, then kick him out!
A LtCol. walking around Ft. Benning, wearing an unearned Ranger tab? Gerald was just asking for trouble, wasn’t he?
Unreal.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that he got away with it for so long. Even walking around Benning. He’s a higher up Officer. He probably started wearing it as a Major when nobody would question him. He probably did it because he wanted credibility. Guy is still a turd
This guy must be so good at blue falconing other troops that other troops are afraid of even taking substantive action against him legitimately.
Impressive.
Ever wonder why we haven’t won a war since 1945? This is why.
I wonder if they checked out his Ranger Tab tattoo…
It’s the “Good Ole Boy” network gone bad….. He was in charge of the National Guard Warrior Training Center, so he’s held to a lower standard than the Regular Army Officers…. But all them tabs looked really cool on his uniform…. Such “Bling” will make any woman horny for him to have his babies…..
“What a man will do for a strip of cloth”. Some will nearly kill themselves for it. Others will compromise thier integrity for it. We should do away with tabs and badges and let our iperms and personalities speak for themselves. However, some people would be S.O.L. if they had to rely on their own leadership skills (or lack thereof) rather than the stuff on thier uniforms. I know Green. He wouldn’t have made it this far with out those tabs. I’ve seen him treat subordinates and peers alike like crap.
Concur. He was selected for the leadership positions that he held because his boss had all the cool stuff (Ranger, airborne, air assault, and AC time with the 82nd) that Green was wearing, and the boss wanted to promote folks who looked like him.
My favorite Green story is him telling someone who I served with in Afghanistan and who had earned a CIB in Iraq that he wasn’t a “real” Infantry officer because he didn’t have a Ranger tab. That friend had the last laugh, and still has a bunch of friends at Benning who are keeping him in the loop about the next train heading Green’s way.
What ever happened to this guy. Rumor has it he was kicked off active duty and is going to be allowed to retire as a CPT…….
