LEOs troll social media for threats
Reuters reports that law enforcement agencies are trying to learn how to prevent terrorist activity by trolling the internet, because apparently, criminals can’t shut up about committing their crimes in advance of their deeds;
That’s not to say there have not been some successes. The LAPD, which employs around 40 people to monitor social media manually, uses software from a startup called PredPol Inc, which stands for predictive policing. The software analyzes LAPD and other internal police databases to identify crime-ridden areas and determine the best times to patrol.
PredPol marketing manager Benjamin Hoehn said crime dropped around 20 percent within 10 months of deploying the system in Modesto, California, in January.
The LAPD is also exploring the use of Geofeedia Inc, which incorporates user-location data as it crawls through sites from Twitter and Facebook to Google Inc’s YouTube and Yahoo Inc’s Flickr.
The article says that the police depend on tips from the public, but, since there are so many people who are willing to cover up for their friends and family who are planning misbehavior, I’m sure that’s not a long-term plan. No one in my circle makes threats – well except those cowardly morons who makes threats against me – so I’m no help.

So Minority Report was a future documentary?
‘Law and Order, Posting Perps Unit’ there has to be a cast for the series. I have some ideas. I know who can play the sleazy defense lawyer. I will throw my hat in the ring to play Det. Stanley Thaddeus “Wojo” Wojciehowicz, always loved that guy.
“Posting Perps Unit” —- You need to copyright that idea before somebody steals it.
A good laugh this morning.
Ironically, I mentioned Max Gail to a co-worker and it turned out they were good friends – he originally met Max in some college course and they’ve continued to keep up with each other a few times a year ever since. Small world…
Well, if one can incite others to burn a city down with impunity–and actuality garner (pun intended) a fan base in doing so, I can understand why some may feel safe from police action in talking about doing violence on FB and other social media.
Good! Rumor on the street is, FB should have recieved a visit from law enforcement after a dozen pages calling for murder of police were found on it. FB’s decision makers did take it seriously, replying to user reports that those pages did not violate their “community standards”. And so, the eggheads at FB will be getting schooled….heh.
Define the “crimes” they’ll be looking for in 5-10 years.
these are the same orgs that made the 4th amendment a joke….why not the 1st amendment too?
Good thing Reuters is out there trying to inform the criminal scum so they don’t get caught.
What dipshits. Between them, the AP, and the New York Slimes we don’t even need foreign enemies. We have enough domestically.
This bit of misuse of breakfast meats is brought to you by someone whose name is Lindsay MacNamara, and who represented herself in her court hearing.

She was released to her mom & dad. She needs some quiet time.
That is not how you use breakfast meats.
