That ceasefire thing in Israel
Remember how yesterday, Egypt tried to broker a cease fire between Israel and Hamas and through the whole process, Hamas continued to fire rockets at the Iron Dome and then completely rejected the terms of the cease? Well, somehow the Washington Post says that it’s Israel’s fault;
The unraveling of an Egyptian cease-fire proposal offered little immediate hope for a diplomatic solution to a conflict that has left more than 190 Palestinians in Gaza dead and that on Tuesday claimed its first Israeli fatality.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the military authorization to use “full force” against militants in Gaza and vowed that Hamas and its allies would suffer for their decision not to halt their rocket fire into Israel.
“Hamas chose to continue fighting and will pay the price for that decision,” Netanyahu said in a televised address Tuesday evening. “When there is no cease-fire, our answer is fire.”
In the Atlantic Wire, Adam Chandler posits that it’s because there is no Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt these days like there was 2012 when Morsi brokered the ceasefire between the two entities. Also that Hamas didn’t “win” anything in the deal this year. Seems to me that halting the thousands of missiles and rockets that Israel was firing on Gaza would qualify as “winning” something. After all, it was Hamas that started the whole thing.
Chandler also complains that Israel is protecting it’s citizens rather well – you know that thing that governments are supposed to do for the people. You’d think that Hamas would want to do the same thing for it’s citizens and the quickest way to do that is to agree to a ceasefire – that’s winning right there.

A lot of the world, including a lot of America does not like Israel. I do not understand that. Surrounded by enemies, they defend themselves when necessary. If Hamas wants it stopped, then stop lobbing their crap into Israel. Cease fire is pretty simple, you stop firing and we’ll stop firing. You don’t and you will get the worse end of the deal. But those who hate Israel will always blame them for anything Hamas or any other group around them who wants them dead does, or doesn’t do. Someone smarter than me will have to figure out the thinking in the Hamas group.
Thank you for that link. I had read about Maj. Zembiec on Blackfive a while back and was in awe of a man whose fierceness as a warrior was matched by the love he had for his Marines. I didn’t know until I read this article that his wife had written a book. I have ordered it and expect to have severe allergy attacks while reading it.
RIP Maj.Zembiec and God Bless his family.
Just in case anybody missed it.

FatCircles0311…Thank you for the article. Must be dusty in here today.
Agreed Sparks. Thank you FatCircles0311. Thank you MAJ. Zembiec.
Thank you, Fat Circles. Lion of Fallujah doesn’t seem to do the Major justice.
But what better epitaph than to hear a Marine say he’d follow the Major back, with a spoon?

ETA: Apologies for the double post and my dumbassery in clicking the wrong reply button.
I heard on NPR yesterday that Hamas had rejected the deal because “they had been left out of the negotiations.” Hamas was actually just conforming to its founding document, the Hamas Covenant. In that document, they take the position that NOBODY has the power to negotiate any kind of truce with the Joooos.
According to Reuters, the Israeli government is expecting incursions by Hamas and has told people to evacuate that area.

Frankly, I expect some kind of spillover backlash into this country from ME immigrants with a bone to pick.
I was astonished to read common sense from Thomas Friedman this morning – usually a pandering advocate for Islam and Al-Jazeera, today even he said that the only way this whole nonsense would stop was for the Palestinians to refuse to allow Hamas to operate and fire weapons.
I’m not a fan of his, but he certainly hit the nail on the head: there are something like 1.3 billion Muslims in the world, and they all say “there’s only 10-15% that are really Islamists” The realities are that a) That means 130-180,000,000 who want us dead and b) If they were not allowed to hide, swim, and be funded by the vast sea of Muslims – they could not spread terror like they do.
Your neighbor is continuously chucking burning bags of shit into your yard every day. They hit the swing set, they hit the slide, they hit your car, and they come close to hitting your children. One time, they hit your dog and it cost you a week’s pay to bring your dog back to health.
You get fed up with your neighbor’s actions and, one day while he is launching more burning bags of shit over the fence, you hop the fence and beat him with a golf club. You don’t kill him, just beat the snot out of him.
The rest of the neighborhood begins telling you that you were wrong to do so. They go to the homeowner association and that body tells you that you were in the wrong. All the while, your neighbor continues to launch flaming bags of shit into your yard.
This is pretty much what is happening in Israel. It’s not right when someone described it like I did, so why is it right when it is on an international level?
(thank you Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children for the basis of the analogy I used)
I prefer to not be pessimistic about this, but I don’t think it will stop unless it gets stirred up in Russia and in China.
