And boom goes the dynamite
Um, yeah, so Matt isn’t buying the IAVA response either.
Man I wish I had tivo’d this whole thing so I could go forward and see how it ends. I’m just glad that Jonn and that “TOS” guy pitched in on it!
Jonn added: Matt and Jimbo’s podcast on the same subject (when Paul Reickhoff bailed on Jimbo’s interview). Paul Reickhoff on MSNBC this week on Air America’s Rachel Maddow’s Show (link to Crooks and Liars). Paul Reickhoff’s Huffington Post column today criticizing Military Times’ poll methodology for a sampling of how the people in the military are voting;
The upshot is, the poll doesn’t represent the military as a whole. It skews towards retirees and undercounts minorities — meaning the title “Military Times Poll: Troops backing McCain” should instead read “Troops and retirees who answered our email back McCain.”
It almost sounds like he’s complaining about his own scorecard doesn’t it?

Been following along, so thanks for the effort. Candidly, I’d never heard of the IAVA until you brought it up.
One small thing though; all of this ‘must honor x’s service’ stuff is getting a bit thick.
Simply noting someone’s service is fine. BUT remember Murtha, Kerry, et. al, all the way back to some guy named Arnold?
I’m not certain why that bugs me, perhaps it’s akin to putting some serial killer’s neighbor on TV saying “He was such a nice quiet man”?
Okay, so I guess retirees should not count even though thousands have retired from the service after serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. Of course, there are also many of us that came out of retirement to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan. I did not care for Rieckhoff when I first saw him on TV in 2004 and my opinion of him went down more when I came home in 2006. I did notice the Military Times’ poll showed Marines had the highest percentage supporting McCain. RAH
Ponsy,
Thank you. You’re quite right about this honoring and thanking for your service busniess”. It was a very nice gesture at first, but has become so fucking insincere and hollow, the ghost of gratitude. It has become the “Have a nice day” of the twenty-first century. I appreciate an “honor or thank you for…” only from people like yourself and othes at this blog, people who have also been there and done that or more. Such people deserve a return of the greeting. And that is the essence of a military salute. As such it is exchanged between those who have earned the right to receive and give. For the rest of you, keep your yaps shut and don’t cheapen it; maybe send a frilly Hallmark card and a box o’ chockies on Vets Day (brandy-filled chocolates would be more appropriate.) Of course “cheapening it” may be exactly the purpose of a few of the weenies. Pissing on what can not be theirs.
Reickhoff’s ScamCard was cited by Lesile Marshall on her far left talk radio show last night.
I think Reickhoff wants IAVA to be the VFW for this generation. Sweet scam.
While I understand and, to a point, agree with Rurik about the insincerity of many of those claiming to be “Honoring Military service” let us not forget that there are quite a few folks out there who really DO honor the Military. Groups like the PGR, USO, or Gathering of Eagles. These groups are made up of quite a few non veterans who are “putting their money where their mouth is” and really making a difference for many Active Duty and Veteran service members. To them, I always return the salute and respect. To asshats who mouth platitudes, but turn around and harm the troops by their actions or words, I throw a different salute.
On honoring ones service…… Well Lee Harvey, I honor your service Mr Oswald, but weren’t you a bit harsh on Prez Kennedy?………

Ray,
I’m PGR, and I’ve also taken to the streets three times with Gathering of Eagles and Eagles UP – one of the first Eagles, actually. However, Veterans did, and do form the base of those groups, and most of the other members I have met are direct family relations of veterans, including a number of widows. They rate my salute any day. And most importantly, as you point out, those organizations actually DO something instead fo mouthing a glib phrase. It appears we both agree about those who pimp the vets.
is barack obama good for small busniess…
I cannot agree on everything you say in this article, but perhaps I missed some of the points you were trying to make….
