“Irresponsible” gun owners mapped – an app for that
Dominick sends us a link to the Washington Times which reports that some gumball, lecturer Brett Stalbaum, from University of California San Diego developed an application for Android machine thingies that allows you to put “irresponsible gun owners” on their map. Of course, the meaning of irresponsible is pretty ambiguous – and depends on what the operator decides it means;
As reported, the market guidelines state, “…unlocked, loaded or carelessly stored weapons should generally be treated with concern by friends, neighbors and visitors. The locations of such careless owners should probably be marked so that others can make an informed decision.”
“The Gun Geo Marker operates very simply, letting parents and community members mark, or geolocate, sites associated with potentially unsafe guns and gun owners. These locations are typically the homes or businesses of suspected unsafe gun owners, but might also be public lands or other locations where guns are not handled safely, or situations where proper rights to own or use any particular type of firearm may not exist.”
Gun owners are not pleased with the application citing that the need to “create awareness” of suspected “dangerous” gun owners does not trump the privacy of individuals and their sensitive, personal property.
As we’ve seen with some of the trolls who drop by occasionally, owning a gun at all makes you irresponsible and so likely to land you on the map. I wonder when someone can make an application that I can use to mark all of the do-gooder airheads on a map, preferably with a GPS locator that tells me when they leave their house, so I don’t accidentally bump into one at the drug store and have to listen to him wax endlessly about what he’s doing to save the world.

Just mark all the anti gun nuts you know on the app. Beginning with the the developer himself of course.
This app was showcased on CALGUNS.NET and the good folks there have attempted to “get a dialoge going” with the idiot. He’s a good socialist who believes some pigs are more equal than others. He has banned everyone from his and his wife’s facebook page, but not before a number of pictures were spotted of them shooting guns while drinking, shooting guns across roads with no apparent backstop, etc. His house has been marked in the app. 🙂
What I love is at the end of the article he quotes the whole “90% of the country want reasonable gun laws” while claiming he’s a gun owner.
Sure he is, and I’m an Obama Democrat.
Interesting app… Can I list anybody? Is there any verification? Can a person listed delete themselves? If I had access to ACORN and SEIU members lists… How hard is it to do multiple listings? List every anti-gun person who signed the petition… Very interesting app…
Yeah, I just developed a Pompous Douchebag App that maps idiot college lecturers. Nothing makes me happier than knowing that a dumbass liberal numbnuts who doesn’t even know which end of the bang stick the hurt comes out of is going to deem me irresponsible and map me. Here is an idea, all of you anti-gun pussies get in a big sweaty group and kiss my ass!!!!
I know a few people who are using the app and tagging places like their local police department, the post office, and the local DNC office
I was thinking a direct corollary to this app would be the “Undefended Homes App” it would allow those of us with the means to defend our homes to be able to mark all the homes in our neighborhoods where burglars and home invaders would be able to enter without being worried about meeting a homeowner with a weapon.
That would save a lot of us from having to shoot someone in our home and let our neighbors without weapons, who are so concerned about our weapons to mark us on a map, to talk their way out of an armed home invasion with some soothing rhetoric about caring for those less fortunate souls who turn their lives around with other people’s property…..
I’m thinking of a free app for burglars, robbers, and thieves. I think I’ll call it Pinpointing the Pinheads. It would every lefty college professors’ school location, schedule, home address, and, perhaps, the year and color of his Prius. The felon could rob, steal, or burglarize with confidence, knowing in advance that his victim certainly would be unarmed, if not sympathetic to his socioeconomic reason for victimizing the professor.
@4 No he is taking the idea from the pedophile app, nice idea stupid execution I don’t think he has access to it, and obviously he hasn’t checked how vulnerable it might be (data would be stored in a server of course) so I’m just waiting a bit for it to be populated then I’ll drop him a courtesy call and make a HIPAA claim .. I’m sure he will have FUN trying to comply with HIPAA
He also doesn’t realize that geotagging someone is considered PII as you would be geo tagging his house, name and probably even phone number all considered PII, without any method of verification or properly removal the app will be also liable to “SWATing” and grounds for even discrimination, dude is in Texas, perfect storm for him if he leaks his data is up to 250k per PII record lost but if he gets hacked is only 10k PER RECORD … I hope he is saving because that could hurt him .. badly …
A Big Brother app.
@10 is not even that, is a bad attempt for that this is the equivalent of street justice, because is so subjective. Let’s say I’m cleaning my gun in my apt and I’m doing a function check I have a very VERY narrow safe direction if someone sees me dry firing it could mark me as irresponsable as they have no idea that I’ve checked the chamber or anything.
The app doesn’t require you to know about guns, so get ready to see half of California marked down. 😛
@8 Apparently great minds think alike, or at least my twisted brain and yours do…see post 7….
Somebody on AR15.com tagged the DHS office in Crystal City for “Insufficient Training”.
2/17 Air Cav: Pinhead? Don’t forget to secure copyright OK from Bill Griffith. (smile)

Oh, no, this sort of thing doesn’t lend credence to those who think this is very like how normal Germans must have felt in the mid-1930’s. Just imagine how SEIU and their ilk can use this to follow the orders from on high to report their fellow employees for infractions.
I’ve read somewhere that the Ap has already been spammed. Of course the professer is already saying that he is recieving threats.
@7 I agree. Let’s have a site for unarmed homeowners to make it easier for those trying to turn their lives around.
I’ll post what I said elsewhere: I reported his app on Google for “illegal activity.” More people might want to do that.
Strong-arm tactics, intimidation, attacks by proxy, public shaming, informing on friends and neighbors, turning people into the State. Gee.
Welcome to the People’s Republik of America. The land that used to be free.
Since the story about jackass the reporter and editor in NY who who plastered the addresses of every CCW permit holder in Rockland and Westchester counties in NY, many jurisdictions across the country (don’t know how many) have made it illegal to post any such info about gun owners.
Having said that … the AP for the DROID won’t last long after a procecutture drags the offending idiots in to a court of law!
@12. yes, but I all ready knew that we were kindred spirits. Honestly, I did not see yours when I wrote mine. It’s not that I overlooked it. It’s that it wasn’t up, as I dilly-dallied in the open comment box.
@21 I do the same, plus I am attempting to multi-task(I hate that term) and it often causes me to delay a post…
Best comment from the app reviews?
“Eric Secrist – July 8, 2013 – Pantech Apache with version 1.0
Gotta move the cache
Some idiot went and marked my granny’s grave. I mean, how in the world did they know that I had ol’ granny cremated so I could use the grave to hide all my weapons? That was a total secret.”
So Gov Hickenlooper will be the first person I put on it, and Chuck Schumer will be the 2nd, followed by Di Fi and the rest of the liberal hoarde.
@24- sadly, that’s going to involve a fair bit of traveling for you. You can only tag an address if you are physically at the location
@25. TAH has supporters all over the country. Instead of one body traveling, we’ll use the TAH network to move the device for site capture. How’s that?
@25 I have servers all over the country I can get to and browse from and friends that will join in on the charade. i think the system can be bombed with useless info and become meaningless. Gov. Hick lives nearby so he’s an easy target. The gun rights people in NY will add ChuckU and others.
What good is a phonebook if its full of bad phone numbers?
I have emailed my Congressman and Senators concerning this. This is more than just a local thing, and the feds need to be involved. I don’t know if there is anything they can do about it, but they’ve been alerted to it, nonetheless.
Flood the app! Get it and mark everywhere you go that there is an irresponsible gun owner. If enough people do this, it’ll make the app worthless
Someone needs to put Curt Cobain’s address on there,,,
I don’t have a gun myself, but I could pretent to own one so that I can get on that map app.
@25 no you don’t need to travel technically. The app only calls the normal GPS, get a GPS faker and it should work like a charm, also the “almost impossible to break number” is just a random cookie which uses your IMEI so it IS personally identifiable.
Also the requests while going over SSL are just a normal stupid POST so you can sniff them and reply them all the time by using a different identity number, it says it can take “Up to a minute to load” but that’s because is requiring “precise GPS” which means it pulls GPS hard and drains battery … I believe it might have a reply attack vulnerability but as I’m bored already with this app I’ll leave it for someone else to also disassemble and break it more.
No opportunities for abuse there….nope, none at all…
Is this something I can play with and completely confuse it from my desktop? Like, could I make it think I’m in Siberia or something? I have no idea how to do that, but I’m game to try.
Add this guy … IMMEDIATELY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am-Qdx6vky0
How ’bout adding the addresses of TSA orifices as well? The list goes on, IRS orifices, DOA (Yes, the Department of Agriculture, they also have armed Agents), ……. As I see it, we ought to add EVERY USG Bureaucracy to that list!
@35 if you have an android device yeah you could mark someone in mars with an unsafe gun I can see them now .. “This is the first manned trip to mars, the administration is sure there is someone with an unsafe gun in there so we are sending the SWAT team”
Using this app in your android you should be able to execute the changes easily https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lexa.fakegps&hl=en
@38 Lost – No, don’t have an Android, just a desktop.
All this app does is give the thugs a list of places that are not protected by an irresponsible gun owner. It’s very dangerous to rob a nut with a gun. Better to rob a responsible, unarmed victim. This is a map of Gun Free Zones.
Add this guy to the list also
I like this guys review;
Piece of trash app wont let me mark anything besides my own house. Please update so I can warn people about the sociopath arms dealer who is giving weapons to mexican drug dealers and alqeda terrorists in syria.
Spot on!
My Dell Streak has a bug in geotagging photos.
I tried it once and it located me in Kazakhstan instead of New England.
Nice OPSEC.
Can we occupy this guy’s lawn for being such a colossal faggot? Maybe we could show up with gun pictures too, so he shits himself so much he can’t leave his house ever again.
This app looks like a hate crime to me. A tool for anti second nuts to vilify in the name of safety.
Requiring no proof, this is a witch hunting tool.
What makes you think she is a witch?
Well, she turned me into a newt!
A newt?
I got better.
Can he make an app that shows all of the citizens with medical marijuana prescriptions?
Sue the developer for everything he has, will have, or has the potential of having. Ensure his descendents understand that they will never see the glory that is not poverty ever in their lifetimes. Then go after the CEO, COO, and CFO of communications companies that offer the app and do the same. If they protest, camp out in their lawns and target the innocent.
Lawfare works both ways, and the Prognazis have shown they have no care for the health and welfare of the innocent.
How are the people who ‘mark’ the ‘unsafe and irresponsible’ gun owners going to know who is actually ‘unsafe’ or ‘irresponsible’? What are they going to do, knock on doors or something?
Hi, I’m your neighborhood busybody and I’m using this new application to mark unsafe and irresponsible gun owners —
(Door slams loudly in face)
I’d like an app that would mark all the Little Eichmann’s that use this app. Thanks.
An App is needed for abortion doctor’s, nurses and customers.
Payback.
