Snowden offered refuge in Venezuela & Nicaragua

| July 6, 2013

Fox News reports that Eddie Snowden, the NSA contractor turned spy, who is apparently living in the Sbarro’s at the Moscow airport these days, or something, has been offered refuge in those two bastions of free speech, Venezuela and Nicaragua. I hope he chooses Nicaragua, that’s the communist paradise that he deserves.

Yesterday, some dingus in Iceland’s Althing, their parliament, introduced legislation to make Snowden an Icelandic citizen, but that didn’t fly according to Reuters;

Six members of Iceland’s parliament tabled a proposal late on Thursday to grant Snowden citizenship after they received a request from him via WikiLeaks, opposition parliamentarian Birgitta Jonsdottir said.

But a majority of parliamentarians voted late on Thursday against allowing the proposal to be put on the agenda, a day before parliament went into summer recess. It does not reconvene until September.

So, Iceland is right out. But, Ana Chapman, the Russian spy who was booted from the US recently, Tweeted Snowden a marriage proposal says the Scotsman.

A Twitter account, believed to be Anna Chapman’s, tweeted: “Snowden, will you marry me?!” A few hours later the same account followed up with, “@nsa, will you look after our children?”

Anna Chapman, who was one of 10 Russians arrested and deported by the United States in 2010, is now famous for hosting the Russian TV show “Secrets of the World” which investigates topics ranging from astrology to wizards of the 21st century.

So, his life is just blossoming with options, not that he’ll take advantage of any of the good ones. I’m rooting for the Nicaragua option.

After seeing Anna Chapman’s pictures, I’m surprised he didn’t take her up on the proposal….

Nay! He’ll remain in Moscow’s airport then maybe “cross” over to Russia.

He should take the Russian girl up on the offer. Of course, after the honeymoon he might discover that he has a tiger by the tail and can’t let go. That would be worse than prison!

I wonder if the Mosad would take a contract on this weasel? They have a good record on snatch/terminate missions. I remember in the 70’s they scoured Europe and whacked all of the Black September shooters that hit the Munich Olympics. They have experience in Latin America dating back to the late 50’s.

Remember who are friends and enemies are. Boycott these two countries!

If he’s smart, he’ll take Venezuela. Ortega is a more temporary fixture than is the socialist regime Chavez put in place.

@6. “If he’s smart….” His current situation precludes that possibility, don’t you think? He reminds me of stupid people who go out in the woods to drop a tree. They fail to ensure that if the tree falls other than according to plan, they have a path clear of limbs and other obstacles to safely escape in any direction. They then get squished.

This is essentially the same situation as Iran’s alleged “nuclear weapons program” pre-2003.

“We did not have any contact yet, we expect that it will be clear on Monday that, first, he confirms that he is ready to receive asylum in Venezuela, second, we should establish contact with the government of the Russian Federation, as he is staying there, it is clear that he is not on the Venezuelan territory,” the Venezuelan foreign minister said. “We should find out the position of the Russian government on this issue,” he said.

Roughly translated: Even though we would accept him here, we need to consult with our friends in Russia and elsewhere before undertaking such a move. We do worry about the considerable political fall out from our friends and other countries that have given us considerable monies and equipment to exploit our own natural resources and deepen our pockets.

“Since this young man formally asked for political asylum in our country, we should consider this request, give an assessment to it and accept it, as President Maduro stated,” Jaua noted.

Either way, Snowden is stuck in Mother Russia for the meantime.
