US Army South Best Warrior Competition 2013

| May 19, 2013

Our buddy, Headhuntersix, sent us a slew of photos from the US Army South Best Warrior Competition at Camp Bullis, TX. US Army South’s website describes their mission and the units involved in accomplishing that mission. Headhuntersix says that “The mission is huge and pretty cool. Counter narcotics, personnel rescue and re-integration plus all the training we do with Latin American militaries”

Let’s face it: these guys are all hunks.

Thanks for the photos Headhuntersix. These guys make me proud. When I browse around TAH it makes me stand up straight to see the real deal like these soldiers. Thank you guys for serving!

Smitty

looks like some fun, but i have to wonder, is this the POG version of Best Ranger?

@3 – Smitty

This is just a prelude to the Army Soldier and NCO of the year competition.

Smitty

Sparks

@5 I just laughed coffee through my nose, thanks.

Beretverde

Glad there are some types of positive competition for soldiers to compete in. Need more of it.

Ex-PH2

Do the Marines do anything like this?

Smitty

@8, yes, they see who can smash the largest rock with their head

Ex-PH2

Things have changed changed since my days with USARSO down in Panama. Back then we had the swim, run, shoot competition and the hike across the Isthmus, both of which turned out to be more physically demanding than I expected. Had to look up geospatial engineering and wasn’t even aware there was an MOS for that (12Y, I think)

Great pictures!! Best Warrior is an awesome way for the Jr. Enlisted to earn bragging rights for themselves and their units. We had one of our specialists take ARMEDCOM’s Best Warrior last year. She might weigh 105 lbs soaking wet, and she dislocated a male soldiers arm who she rolled with in the combatives component. Us back at the HHC promptly nicknamed her ‘SPC ‘She who makes boys cry’. It was awesome.

Thank you for the pix. It makes me proud of those who are currently serving and competing. At neat SocSec age, I know I don’t have anywhere near what it takes to “go there, do that.”
But it also makes me wonder for the future of the Armed Services when I read of all the PC-ness and persecution, and budget cutting going on now and in the near future.

At some point I’m going to drag our own TSO off into the jungles for another embed with ARSOUTH. I think one of our guys’ one the whole thing this year so we’ll send a few more to John on Monday.

@8: Marine Corps use to have super squad competitions to find the best Marine infantry squad in the Corps. It was stopped early in 2002 though because baddies needed to be shot by the participants instead.

Just out of curiosity, reading the first photo caption, who or what is a “Zero Ranger”?

” … fires his M4 Carbine Rifle at the Zero Ranger …”

And why the hell was he shooting at him?

(The photo and caption were, I assumed copied directly from the press release?)
