Pelosi: A pay cut would diminish our dignity

| February 15, 2013

ROS sends a link from The Hill in which Nancy Pelosi complains to the media that she doesn’t think Congress should take a pay cut because it would ” diminish the dignity of lawmakers’ jobs”. Never mind that they have done their primary job – create a budget for the government – in more then three years.

Americans across this country have taken pay cuts in this current economical environment, but, then I guess, the royalty in Congress is better than the rest of us.

The comments were made in the context of the looming sequester, which would force across-the-board cuts affecting most federal offices, including Congress. With lawmakers nowhere near a deal to avert those cuts, federal agencies are bracing for ways to absorb them with minimum damage to programs and personnel.

Pelosi, whose husband is a wealthy real-estate developer, was quick to note that a cut in her own pay would be far less significant than that for both staffers and less wealthy members of Congress.

Yeah, speaking of staffers, the day before Gabriela Giffords was shot in Tucson, she had introduced a bill to reduce Congressional staffers by 10%. Whatever happened to that? Again, we can’t inconvenience the Congressional royalty.

Okay, I think there’s a running contest between San Fran Nan and Plugs “Ninja Robots” Biden to see who can say the stupidest shit.

Plugs is ahead for now, but damned if Pelosi isn’t making one HELL of a push for the title.

NHSparky

Edit to add–speaking of questions she won’t answer, has she allowed the workers at her hotel, restaurants, or winery to unionize? (Hint: no.)

Kind of sounds like “Let them eat cake”…. FUCK HER!!

Bam Bam

This dusty old bitch is simply retarded. What an insensitive thing to say by one of the champions of the poor and destitute who need government or surly they will perish.

So I have no idea where the robot ninja reference is from, but I see it all the time. Can anyone help me out on that one?

rb325th

@4 Ninja Robots is a reference to the use of Drones i nthe war on terror… aka Bidens War of the Drones…

Something you don’t have is something that can’t be diminished you moron.

Bam Bam

@5: cheers. Tracking now.

Another great contradiction in the liberal platform: all about people’s rights but find drone overflights acceptable. Duh…

“We the people ….” that’s how it started …. A bunch of guys working together as “We”, for the betterment on this nation. It’s now devolved into chaos, driven by money and pursuit of power! Is that really what the Founding Fathers would have wanted? There should be an 18 month stint of mandatory public service for EVERYONE when they graduate from (or quit) school …. Peace Corps, V.I.S.T.A., Merchant Marines, fire departments, police departments, military …. something, to teach young folks social responsibility and that the world doesn’t revolve around them!

Politicians …. they try to sidetrack us with gun control, immigration, and other claptrap, when all along it’s the economy, and the crazy way the Federal government has become the most powerful “person” in America …. spending like a teenager with the parent’s credit cards, and only calling the parents to TELL them that THEY are raising their folks’ credit card limits so they can continue to spend like they just hit the lottery!

The French had had enough in 1789 when they were no longer willing to accept the burden placed on them by the “Royals” and the elitist Parliamentarians(who were almost all lawyers)! Will there come a day in this country when the populous says “Enough!”?

Nik

Fuck her. Bitch hasn’t done her job for 3 years. I work in State government and haven’t seen a raise in 4 years, and that’s after I’m falsely castigated as getting overpaid to begin with.

2/17 Air Cav

I guess that would make George Washington the most undignified holder of high office in our nation’s history. He refused to accept any salary as President of the United States, although one was authorized!

Don Carl

Pay them the same as E-5’s and house them in the same type of quarters. Where these a holes got the idea they are better than everyone is a mystery, but, they need to be disabused of that notion NOW.

Nik

I realize it’s getting more expensive for her to find someone able to stretch her increasingly parchment like skin across that face of hers, but she’s gotta make sacrifices like the rest of us.

faboutlaws

She’s a Democrat for Christ’s sake, a condition that doesn’t admit to much dignity in the first place.

Hack Stone

If these politicians don’t recieve their salaries, how will they ever be able to pay for 13 year old Dominican prostitutes?

2/17 Air Cav

@15. They’ll just pull the cash from the freezer, Hack–you know, it is so much more dignified.

It’s about f#cking time that Congress gets to reap the benefits of the p1ss poor job they’ve been doing for 20+ years.

A great many people in the manufacturing industries across the nation have been watching their benefits and wages diminish over the last decade. I ran an operation of over 150 people making about 90k, when the company failed I found a job for half that amount, but it was better than unemployment and I figured out how to survive.

As someone who has been a taxpayer since the age of 14 (farm worker) I am sick and tired of hearing about the cost of living requirements of those employed by election in the public sector. Those of us in the private sector know all too well the cost of living and the complete lack of opportunity in many areas of the economy these days. If Pelosi thinks a pay cut is beneath her dignity then I can’t think of a single better move than to make it a ballot item and force it on them. Perhaps when these 4ssholes actually have to tie their compensation to their performance like rest of us in the dreaded private sector they will understand what it actually takes to make a living and take care of your business.

Maybe she should quit if she’s not getting enough money to suit her likes.

Eric

I used it for another topic, amazing it pops up again within 24-hours.

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

I’m so glad they made us read & watch Animal Farm in school when I was a kid. Is it still required reading?

Ex-PH2

Meteor exploded twice over Chelyabinsk this morning, setting off car alarms and breaking windows.

The noise you now hear from my corner of the room is my head exploding twice, setting off car alarms and breaking windows.

It’s nice to know what Granny Nancy REALLY thinks of herself, isn’t it?

How long does it take to fire these clowns? How long? When are people going to wake up?

68W58

Eric-seriously! 1984 and Animal Farm as required reading for every American student. Most would learn the lesson of giving too much power to government, but sadly those like Pelosi would just nod in enthusiastic agreement while they read.

Hondo

Ex-PH2: opportunity exists every 2 years. Unfortunately, Pelosi represents a solid district in Sodom by the Bay. They’d probably reelect her if she was outed as a perverted cannibal who actually ate young children like the evil old woman character in Hansel and Gretel.

What trips a lot of these folks up is the simple fact the freedom is a great and frightening thing. The freedom to succeed implies directly that the freedom to fail is inherent in the equation, some of us are willing to take a great risk to be greatly successful. We sometimes fail spectacularly in that process and our incomes are affected correspondingly. Too many public sector jobs require no risk and there is a constant guarantee of increasing wages whether performance merits the increases or not.

Nothing in the private sector (except a few CEO positions in large corporations) works like that. If your product sucks, or if your product stagnates while your competition surpasses you (DEC) or technology makes you obsolete (Blockbuster) and you do nothing to regain your relevance you are compelled to occupy the dustbin of history and prosperity. It’s my experience that the government and many in the private sector fear that level of freedom because that level of exposure is terribly unsettling. A government that stifles that freedom of risk, stifles its’ own growth and prosperity.

Massachusetts is a classic example of a government that stifles business, it’s directly related to a loss of business and congressional representation as our best and brightest migrate to areas where this risk is encouraged to flourish. Like Texas.

Massachusetts experienced a population increase so insignificant it lost a congressional seat, we are experiencing a negative net migration of talented workers. While our population is increasing slowly it is the parasites that are increasing while the worker bees are finding new hives to produce their honey. At our current rate of decline Massachusetts could see a total net population loss a couple of censuses out from now. If that isn’t a lesson for the nation on the benefits of Romney/Obama universal health care, and Obama-like taxation, well then I don’t know what it would take to scare the rest of the nation away from such plans.

The Dead Man

Oh I’m going to have fun spreading this one around. Shame the media isn’t helping run her out on a rail, but that would require some dignity on their end as well.

MAJMike

Riddle me this. How might you diminish something you don’t have? I’m just a dumbass leg former 11Bravo10 who was sent to OCS because he wasn’t NCO material. So please, will someone ‘splain that to me?

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@25 It’s similar to when a Democrat exclaims they are taking responsibility for something, like Clinton for Benghazi or Reno for Waco. It’s just a statement without meaning because there are zero repercussions. Nobody is voting Pelosi out anytime soon because she actually reflects her district.

Just like the buffoons here in the people’s republic of Massachusetts are reflected in the likes of Liz Warren (Liar), John Kerry (phony, gigolo), Ritchie Neal (corrupt), Barney Frank (felonious behavior, incompetent)….our Congress is who we the people want them to be. We put 9 out of 10 back in office, so we clearly enjoy the work these “fine” people are doing on our behalf. It couldn’t be that we are so f#cking lazy we can’t pick a different name on the ballot. At least I sure hope it’s not that we are so lazy that is the case.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

“Oh Nancy … so good to hear your voice”, as he sat quiety at his desk.

“MCPO wake up, you have been drooling and mumbling again”, said the concerned intern.

“Um … yeah … ROG that … I was having … ah … horrible, most horrible dream with creatures from another world, it was so scary”.

Old Trooper

Well, the lefties are right; we do have a 2 class system in our country, but it’s not the 2 classes they are talking about. We have a political/government class and we have the rest of us. If the political class wanted to be honest, they wouldn’t exempt themselves from the same laws they pass ofr us, but that will never happen when they still have the mindset that they are above us mere subjects.

PintoNag

Huh. Let’s see how their dignity holds up, standing in an unemployment line.

Quincy P

dignity ? BAHAHAHA i think she meant over-payed and under-worked-bourgeoisie

Green Thumb

This woman is what is wrong with politics.

Ex-PH2

Bourgeoisie means middle class. That’s us.

That is not the hoity-toity set that Granny Nanny thinks she belongs to. She thinks she and they are at Level 8, whereas nous les petits bourgeois are only at Level 5.

For clarity, the government is actually at Level 6 and the people who inhabit it are somewhere around Level 4.5, unless they snap out of their self-important fungus status and become human again. They operate under the delusion that they are at Level 8 or 9. Level 10 belongs to those who sit in the Oval Office and think they’re in charge.

Also, that town in Lalaland is Berserkley. I have that on good authority from a friend of mine who visited there once in the 1970s.

CC Senor

Pelosi, whose husband is a wealthy real-estate developer, was quick to note that a cut in her own pay would be far less significant than that for both staffers and less wealthy members of Congress.

Isn’t that sweet, always thinking of the “little people”.

Old 21B

Nan thinks that a pay cut would diminish her dignity. The day before Gabriela Giffords was shot in Tucson, she had introduced a bill to reduce Congressional staffers by 10%. I am sure that Nan didn’t like that bill which would reduce her personal servants, I mean staffers, and Gabby was shot by a leftwing nut job. Get Jesse Ventura out there looking for the Pelosi/Loughner connection.

Eric

@28, don’t forget its not Just Washington DC (political / government) class. Add to that the Hollywood (rich celebrity) group as well. They push up and down rules to make things more harsh on us “common folk” while they expect to be exempt from any such rules or laws for themselves, because they are “celebrities.”

The common “don’t you know who I am?” attitude.

I’ll reflect back to something Chris Rock said when he used to be funny. “If you’ve got 50 million and you lose half, you ain’t starving…but if you’ve got 50 thousand…..” This is the same thing, with 6+ figure salaries, not including entitlements, benefits, etc., I doubt they’d even notice a 10% pay cut. If I made even half of a Congressman’s “base pay” I’d be doing pretty good, but I’m just a dumb Sergeant, so I’m not that well off.

Especially since many also have relatives employed for lobbyists, contracts to be “consultants” for corporations, etc. Ohhhh, but it isn’t illegal. why? Because they make the laws and as such, it becomes legal because they say it should be…

Eric

Not to mention, Nancy is the same “Dutchess” that held a USAF aircraft on the runway waiting at her beckon call just in case she felt like flying home with her friends and butt-kissers. (while she was house majority leader) Ala Leon Panetta, “but I have family that I miss and I need to fly home at 33000 a weekend, which is why your training budget will get cut.”

Yat Yas 1833

Military members have dignity. Hard working Americans have dignity. Honorably discharged veterans have dignity. Politicians have shame and komissar pelosi is a PIGGED-EYED BITCH I WOULDN’T SCREW WITH A POSER’S PATHETIC LITTLE PECKER.

MAJMike

@26 — Thanks. I needed that.

Unlike some, I did listen to my NCO’s and learned from all ranks.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@38 Unlike the government I really do try to help, living in Massachusetts provides me a daily reminder of what happens when lack of criticism and unfettered liberalism is allowed to run rampant

Redacted1775

That smelly pirate hooker is severely lacking in terms of dignity.

Joe Mama

“diminish the dignity of lawmakers’ jobs”

What dignity would that be, exactly?

David

Pay ’em by the balanced budget they are supposed to produce: no budget, no pay. If they then can’t afford aides… well, that’s self inflicted, now, isn’t it?

Roger in Republic

I don’t think Dignity means what she thinks it means. I has nothing to do with wealth, power, or position. A 10 year old Mexican kid with a shoeshine box has more dignity than a vote whore like Ms. Pelosi.

Mike

Prostitutes deserve more dignity.

PavePusher

Nancy, you whore, you sold your dignity years ago.

On second thought, that’s an insult to whores, who actually have to give some value for money paid.
