A Friday feel good story

| January 4, 2013

A Georgia woman was forced to ventilate an intruder in her home office where she was hiding after she saw the stranger outside her home. She fled along with her twins to a crawlspace;

“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” Chapman told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.

“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.

The woman ran to a neighbor’s home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said.

So, folks in Logansville, Georgia are marginally safer tonight since the fellow is being restrained by police. He’s lucky that she was only using a .38.

Bring her to the Senate floor! She can make one hell of an argument for the need for semi-auto pistols…

JBS

How many times does one have to be arrested before they figure out, “Hmm, I think this person is a burden on society”. (From the link)

2-17 Air Cav

Too bad she didn’t have an AR-15 with a 30-round mag. He wouldn’t have been attempting to escape by driving around endangering others.

Nik

Now if she had more rounds to put in that scumbag, those trees wouldn’t have been harmed.

Where’s the concern for the trees? Tree-huggers should be all over this one.

Bam Bam

All this guy was doing was popping in to say hello and this hate monger decides to shoot him with an assault pistol. How thoughtless and unconstitutional of her! He has a right to freedom of speech!

Good shooting mom!

Yat Yas 1833

Ratbastage gun owners!?! How did she know if the guy wasn’t coming by to make a sales call or something!

Double Good on her!!! She and her babies are safe because she has a sidearm and knows how to use it.

Comrade Feinstein? Hello?

Hack Stone

On the negative side of the story, she is no longer welcomed at Denny’s.

Edward1811

I think that there should be a law that anyone who breaks into a house, is shot, and then lives, should have to reimburse the homeowner for the cost of the ammunition…

2-17 Air Cav

@8. It actually is an item that can be reimbursed if the judge orders it. If not, you can sue him for it. I do like your idea, though, but let’s make it a STATE reimburseable! That way, the victim doesn’t have to hope that SOB can pay someday.

The Dead Man

#8 It was .38, I could raid my car’s ashtray for change and pay for the shots. I say he should have to pay for an upgrade to a round that will actually do the job.

FatCircles0311

Perfect case for having “high capacity” magazines. She’s lucky.

It is a tale of two different stories from the Atlanta area in the last 24 hours. In this one a women took refuge in a closet, called 911, only to have the perps discover her and shoot her. http://www.11alive.com/news/article/270922/3/South-Fulton-woman-shot-in-home-invasion–

Susan

“…but Chapman said he was shot in the face and neck.”

Ok guys – center mass or head shot, which is more effective with a .38? Inquiring minds need to know.

2-17 Air Cav

Double tap center mass. Coup de grace other.

2-17 Air Cav

@14. The .38 is more than sufficient to disable. The double tap, center mass is the traditional instruction from police training and requires much practice to ensure that when the time comes, the action is reflexive. The coup de grace comment was inappropriate but if someone is to be dispatched, that action carries finality.

Edward1811

#16, One person’s coup de grace is another’s failure/mozambique drill, sometimes body armor is in play.

MAJMike

This is exactly why the .45ACP hollow-point is my defensive round of choice. Eight .45 rounds form a powerful deterent to mayhem.

Susan

Ok, so if this going to take practice, does anyone have suggestions for instructions in the Atlanta area?

UpNorth

@#18. Agree, there’s a lot to be said for 230gr hollow point, all good.

OWB

Muscle memory can be a wonderful thing. It took almost no time at all for mine to learn the triple tap deal – two in the chest, one in the head. Will always be grateful for that training.

Old Trooper

@18: Yeah, but 13 of them would end it completely (Springfield XDm .45 holds 12 in the mag and one in the pipe).

Well, I’m waiting for Joe to come on here and start running his fucking piehole about “high capacity mags”, once again. If you’re so fucking concerned about the children, Joe, you should be here, right now, calling for “high capacity mags” to be readily available. If she had a semi-automatic, instead of a revolver, the perp wouldn’t have been able to leave and possibly harm others, he would be room temperature right now. You stupid sonsabitches just want us to be dis-armed so you can claim some false mantle of moral superiority while sipping on your double non-fat soy latte with the rest of the hippies you hang out with. If it’s “for the kids”, as you idiots always exclaim while wetting your diaper, then you would want those around “the kids” to be able to protect them. I could tell you of something that happened around here, a few years back, that would make your skin crawl much more than if you saw someone with a pistol minding their own business out in public.

H1

That’s why we use .357’s.
.38’s for familiarization and the full loads for training and defense.
If her frame will support it, at least use +P in SJH.

RickT

@22 Amen.

Moreover, they’ll be sipping those lattes behind a cordon of armed security (using semi-automatic pistols with “high-capacity” [whatever the hell that means] magazines).

I’d gladly pay more taxes to identify and ensure treatment while in high-security confinement for people like Lanza and the clown in New York.

MAJMike

@22 and 24 — I have an XD as well as an HK .45c USP and the beloved M1911A1. The HK is my EDC pistol of choice.

The 12 gauage Mossberg mil-spec riot gun loaded with “buck and ball” is also available to me, as necessary.

Old Trooper

@25: I have, as back up, the standard 870 Express Magnum loaded with a variety of flavors and one of those eeeeeevil black rifles loaded with 75 grains of Hornady TAP luvin in one of those eeeeevil “high capacity magazines”. IOW; anyone that decides to break in to my domicile is in for a very bad day.

Susan

24 – there you have it. There are many things for which I would gladly pay higher taxes. Unfortunately, they are not the things the state/congress think are important. These include better facilities for people who are truly nuts and decent vocational training in high schools. Everyone does not need to go to college. Somebody has to fix my car, my HVAC, and my plumbing. Just saying.

Nik

Well, I’m waiting for Joe to come on here and start running his fucking piehole about “high capacity mags”, once again

You’ll be waiting a long time. Intellectually dishonest shitbags don’t come around when the narrative doesn’t fit their delusional view of the universe.

SGT Ted

She’s obviously using the wrong loads. +P HPs would make sure he didn’t get back up.

Tequila

Susan, sorry I didn’t check back earlier. For firearms training in the Atlanta area these guys offer classes and have an indoor range. Most are ex military and a very professional group Wild West Traders http://www.wwtguns.com/shop.htm The address says Marietta but in truth they are really in Smyrna if you’re familiar with the area.
