Leftists fall for satire

| September 9, 2012

We’ve all watched as people fall for satire as news in regards to The Onion and our brothers at The Duffel Blog. Well another satire blog, Free Wood Post wrote that Mitt Romney said this;

I can relate to black people very well indeed. My ancestors once owned slaves, and it is in my lineage to work closely with the black community.

Just the context of that little nugget would make me question it, but not so for the Leftists who just believe something because they want it to be true. You can watch them melt down at Twitchy.

There’s a “Satire Disclaimer” in the header of Free Wood Post. The header also claims “News that’s almost reliable” isn’t red flag enough, I suppose.

And no doubt like the alleged comment by Sarah Palin (actually by Tina Fey) of, “I can see Russia from my house!” the leftards won’t care that it wasn’t in fact true as long as it supports their agenda.

“The thing about quotes from the Internet is that it’s hard to verify their authenticity.” -Abraham Lincoln

Chris

Do you also make blog posts when rightists go ape shit over satire as well? No? Oh…

2-17 AirCav

Chris: No, he doesn’t “make blog posts” at all. He buys them wholesale from Rightists, Inc. (See their site at rightistblogposts.com) Both new and used blog posts are available with significant savings for bulk posts. You may find this hard to believe but Rightists, Inc. also sells comments. Consequently, one can set up a blog, post to it, and have it chocked-full of comments without actually writing a thing or depending upon readers for comment. I’m rather surprised that you hadn’t heard of this before.

NHSparky

I dunno Chris, do you always flap your cockholster in mock outrage?

Oh wait–we already know the answer to that one. Plus I’d love for you to cite a case where “rightists” have gone apeshit over a FAKE (there’s the operative word there, FAKE) comment by a liberal?

OWB

Folks who have no sense of humor have serious difficulty in discerning satire even when it is clearly identified as such. Is anyone really surprised?

For the leftist trolls – since you will never catch the irony I expressed in the above post, that is what I am expressing. Just so you know.

And the preceeding posts are all delightfully humorous. 😉
(With one glaring exception. Well, maybe not.)

Have we found Harry Reids’s anonymous source?

Chris, my Gunny must have known you. He used to tell me “Sir, you can always tell an idiot, you just can’t tell them much.”

Instinct

We don’t need fake comments by liberals to make them look like ignorant douche nozzles, Chris, the actual quotes are good enough.

Like yours for example.

This post from the derpocratic underdrawers is extremely revealing: ” before I clicked on the link and saw that the offering was political satire, I was way too ready to believe that! It really does sound like something the Mittwit would say!”

In other words, “I already assume he’s a racist, and I’m going to latch onto anything that proves it, whether it is true or not! I put unfounded preconceived notions of what I believe people might say ahead of facts!”

Yat Yas 1833

Chris, adults are having a conversation here, why don’t you go back to your room and play with your toys.

Marine 83

“Cockholster” Bwa ha ha ha! Handn’t heard that one in awhile. 🙂

@2-17 AirCav

Just fabulous!

Do we need to go look at the post about the naming of the USS Jane Fonda…but I digress.

Lefty’s have a really good sense of humor when it is making fun of people they don’t like, but turn it against them then it isn’t funny.

Thought you folks would like this story if you hadn’t seen it about a local hero. 92 yr old WWII veteran shoot and kills 1 of 3 home invaders…

@14
Yeah, that topic was covered previously. Earl was tired of being a victim of repeated break-ins and decided to protect his castle. Just be sure you don’t live in Britain when you ventilate an intruder or its the slammer.

Insipid

Mmm, so Conservatives don’t get that Colbert is joking either.

http://hij.sagepub.com/content/14/2/212.abstract

At least Cobert, unlike the tweet, is funny.

Lobster

I don’t think it’s really a lefty thing. I think it’s just the sad reality that a good portion of American’s lack critical thinking skills and common sense.

Just Plain Jason

You know I have never really found Colbert that funny. I don’t know sometimes satire is good and sometimes I just don’t care for it too much. The only honest journalism out there now a days is the Duffel Blog…

One of the best reactions for the left getting mad at someone making fun of them is Team America. How many of the people got pissed at that? Sean Penn…well I think everyone can agree that he is a world class dick, but he was so pissed he wanted to fight Matt Stone and Trey Parker. I also love when comedians make jokes about things that are “off limits” to liberals, because the first thing they try to do is censor them or have them banned. I do love when Patrice O’Neal was on Fox news (I think) and is debating a spokeswoman from NOW. She was mad because he was explaining a Donkey Punch, The Angry Pirate, etc… and she was mad because it promoted violence against women. Ill have to find the link it was hilarious.

See why it’s so important to vote? These people vote…

Twist

@1 What she actually said was “They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.” which is a geographical fact.

StrikeFO

It happens to conservatives too.

Dave

Perhaps it was too subtle for the satire to get through…. who was the comedian in the ’60s who said “Sure I like black people, everyone should own a few”. Then there was Richard Pryor doing Idi Amin, with “Everyone says I dislike white people – that is not true, I LOVE white people, they are delicious” or some such. Seems like today if you don’t agree with something, you’re a racist of some sort. Can’t stretch anything into humor , we live in the Realm of the Humorless.

Nik

Sadly, satire or not, this quote will be perma-etched in some folks’ minds as reality. Then they’ll tell their friends, who tell their friends…and so on.

Now, the more optimistic among you are probably thinking “Yah, but those people would have never voted for Romney, and anyone with half a brain who might have voted for Romney would never believe it.”

I submit that, in my humble estimation, ascribing half a brain to the majority of the voting public stretches optimism to the point of abject silliness.

2-17 AirCav

@24. Consider this. What goes unsaid is that the half brain attributed to the voting public is largely unused.

Nik

@25 Ok, I can buy that..as long as you are purporting that half a brain among the entire voting public.

malclave

@16

I don’t know if you’re smart enough to understand this, Insipid, but there’s a difference.

Conservatives may think that Colbert is not funny, or that he genuinely dislikes conservatives, but if he puts forward a made-up “fact” they probably don’t believe it.

Liberals, on the other hand, are eager to believe any damning lie they hear. It’s an extension of Ronald Reagan’s observation that “the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.”

NHSparky

And as evidence that the right isn’t a bunch of soulless automatons, consider the “strategery” bit.

Invented and used by Will Ferrel on SNL, but picked up by the Bush administration after the 2000 election and acutally used as a running joke.

Outrage? Not from where I’m sitting.

Oh, and people who get their news/views from Colbert and Stewart need to be throat-punched for being so fucking stupid. These are the same people who if you told them the word “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary, they’d be either rushing for the nearest library, or looking at you like a dog that’s heard a funny sound and go, “Really?”

Casey

Here’s the actual article StrikeFO’s link references:
http://www.duffelblog.com/2012/08/senator-clarifies-remark-telling-troops-to-go-fuck-themselves-says-quote-taken-out-of-context/

Conservatives go completely apeshit in the comments because they thought it was a serious news article. After repeated efforts to point out the site is SATIRE (one fellow cut’n’pasted to every thread to get the word ouit), many of the Highly Indignant retreated to the “fake but accurate” defense. Heh.

The moral of the story: you can find stupid people anywhere.

Joe

Those foolish “Leftists”!
