Arrest Made in USS Miami Fire

| July 23, 2012

Word comes down this morning that Casey James Fury, a civilian employee of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, has been arrested for, “willfully and maliciously” setting fire and burning a vessel, namely the USS Miami, and “willfully and maliciously” setting fire to and burning building materials and supplies located in and around the USS Miami.”

More on the story on Portsmouth Herald website.

Wanted to get out of work because you were butthurt over your girlfriend, eh? Hope it was worth spending a good chunk of your life in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison for it. Some of the shipyard civilian workers weren’t the brightest bulbs in the string, and he just dragged down the average by a whole bunch.

Damn yardbirds.

HOLY FUCKING JESUS! People almost died in that fire. It took almost 10 hours to extinguish, and the front half of the boat is trashed. It is still being evaluated as to whether they will keep it or not. Unbelievable.

Steadfast&Loyal

what the hell is wrong with people’s brains.

If there were persons on board the USS Miami at the time he set the fire, this individual may be in deep trouble. That may qualify as aggravated arson. Penalties for that crime are generally pretty damned steep.

My husband is on that ship. He got called in from leave to deal with that fire. It’s a miracle no one died. Fury was on a number of drugs, and said he lit the fire to “get out work” sick bastard.

I think that there is some kind of old union agreement that required the random drug testing bit to be listed in the job announcement upon applying. i don’t think that would exclude drug testing someone who is suspected of using or missingwork/not performing. I’m glad no one was hurt by this idiot. I know a lot of good folks that work there.

@5 – Steadfast, I’ve been asking myself that question for years. Still do not have an answer.

@7- As Sparky said, there is always naval personnel on board; the numbers would depend on how many duty sections the drydock workload would permit. In addition, though probably running a modified watchbill for drydock, the reactor plant is ALWAYS manned by members of ship’s company. Hell, I’ve seen a shutdown reactor operator posted in front of a blank piece of plywood because the shipyard removed the reactor control panel. The only way he could tell what was happening inside the reactor was via a thermocouple (an archaic temperature gauge, akin to using tin cans and a bit of string for a phone) monitored by yours truly. There is never a time when a naval reactor plant is unmanned.

This idiot needs to do alot of time. Not just because he endangered lives, but because he’s threatened the security of our nation by disabling (and more than likely eliminating) one of our country’s greatest warfighting assets. Fuck him. I hope his ex-girlfriend sends him pics in prison of her slobbing the knob of her new boyfriend every day, until he kills himself.

Ok, who has a 106 ‘reckless rifle’ to shoot this son-of-a-bitch with? I mean right in the face! He could have hurt or killed sailors standing watch! He might have destroyed a boat! His retardedness has cost ‘US’ millions!

teddy996

Yat- if they develop a way to deliver a live hornet’s nest, a giant pepper ball, or a 5lb bag of rock salt with it, I’ll sign on with that face shooting 106 crew.

Tell you what – they should have charged the moron with aiding and abetting the enemy during time of war (treason) – remember, we still have US military in the Middle east risking their lives for this country. Oh, wait….let’s do more than that…give him and his lawyers the Jane Fonda Traitor Award!!!! (His attornies deserve it for coming up with the argument the Pitiful Dear had emotional issues…Wah-Wah!). After all, even if you want to ignore the fact that people had to risk their lives – none got killed doing so, remember, so it’s okay, right? – to put the fires out, what about restitution? You think he’s going to be able to repay the damage he did? But wait, maybe his attornies can work a deal so he can become an honorary Al Queda member (does Al queda have a pension fund?)…remember their excuse was the Poor Baby wanted a day off work (how about the Ask-the-boss-for-a-day-off option?) hey, that’s right – He can put an American Flag on the door of his car when he gets out like the fighter pilots do when they destroyed an enemy….
