Taliban is catching the PTSD

| April 2, 2012

Tman sends us a link to an article from Reuters in which a NATO spokesman reports that the Taliban is catching PTSD from US troops (I’m guessing – because you know somehow it’s related to US troops contant deployments).

Personal grievances, battle stress, and domestic problems are behind more attacks by rogue Afghan security forces on NATO troops than are Taliban infiltrators, the coalition said on Monday.

Ya mean, like stress from giving the Taliban permission to kill their father? Or stress from going around telling your friends that you’re going to join the ANA so you can kill Americans. Stress like that?

It sounds to me like NATO is willing to make any excuse to avoid the actual problem. I mean, it took two soldiers getting shot to death for them to start arming some personnel in their ministry offices. Too late for those guys, but at least everyone has their desks facing the door now, so they can see the bullets coming.

“One of the things that we are finding is that in many cases there were signs and symptoms that could have been seen, and leadership has to be improved to make sure that those signs are seen in the future, in time before an incident happens.”

Oh, no shit Sherlock? Thanks for that in-depth analysis that none of thought of before you mentioned it. That’s the kind of insight you get from ten years at war.

Hey Jonn, go easy on those guys. Beating women and humping goats takes a lot out of someone whose head is stuck in the 7th Century.

I’m still trying to figure out the POST Traumatic Stress Disorder here. I mean, haven’t they been fighting since the time of Alexander the Great? They are born into TSD, live their entire lives with TSD, in a culture that worships TSD, and die with TSD, but they’ll never get to the point where it becomes POST TSD.

@509th Bob, they were fighting long before Alexander married his way out of trouble, and when there is no one else around to fight they fight each other.

“…there were signs and symptoms that could have been seen, and leadership has to be improved to make sure that those signs are seen in the future.”

So what you’re saying, Mr. Nato Spokesperson, is that we need to point your hindsight forward? You wanna improve the leadership? There’s an election this year.

I know how we can cure the Taliban’s’ PTSD…how about we don’t allow them to make it home so they don’t have PTSD. Problem solved, oh wait the CNC wants us to get search warrants…
