SGT Michael Moynihan earns Silver Star
Stars & Stripes reports (from an Army Times article) on SGT Michael Moynihan who, as a Corporal coordinated a defense of his Observation Post and successfully repelled an enemy attack which threatened the flank of his unit’s postions.
Using rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and assault rifles, enemy fighters launched several attacks on his team’s position between Oct. 11-13, 2011, but were thwarted each time, the Army Times said.
Twice Moynihan was said to have been knocked unconscious, but continued to fight after coming to. At least eight attackers were killed, according to the Army Times report. There was no mention of any serious injuries or deaths on his side of the fight.
From the Army Times;
For three days, the enemy relentlessly attacked Observation Post Shal in Afghanistan’s Kunar province.
And for three days, Cpl. Michael A. Moynihan led his fellow soldiers in a fierce defense of their OP, directing attacks and providing covering fire even though it exposed him to the intense enemy barrage. A mortar hit his position and knocked him unconscious; after he came to, Moynihan continued to lead the fight.
You should really read the whole Army Times article to get a sense of what this young hero did, as a corporal.
This is the kind of valor that is being stolen every time one of those dickweeds claim an unearned Silver Star. Bravo Zulu, young buck.

Been scouring the main stream media for any hint of this story since I read it in yesterday’s Army Times online.
Of course, just being rhetorical here.
As usual: “Good news is no news”, so we’ll all just stayed tuned to hear more about SSG Bales.

So what’s with the shades? In front of a Major General, no less. During a photo-op awards ceremony. Either Generals or the Army has changed a lot.
I wore shades day & night once, for a few months, afte medics took slivers out of my eyeball. Perhaps he suffered eye injuries they forgot to mention?
Ballistic eye pro is part of the uniform. Technically the Major General is the one out of uniform, but…would you volunteer to make that correction?

Sgt Moynihan is a good friend of mine he saved countless amounts of lives n truely went beyond the call of duty n yet ur complainin about his glasses n sayin he luks like a 12 yr old boy u should b ashamed of urself if u think he looks like he cnt handle the job which clearly he is fully qualified for y dnt u get off ur ass n do it urself? love u Moynihan thanks for doin a great job we r in ur debt!

Sgt moy? He’s the guy that tried banging his joes wife when his joe went away for training and he stayed back because he was pcsing. He was also banging 2bct soldiers wives when they deployed. He’s a good soldier. Horrible ethics though.
