Daniel L. Newman; Buried with Stolen Valor

| March 21, 2012

Average NCO sent us a link this morning as well as forwarding it to POW Network, Captain Larry Bailey and Don Shipley. The link is to an obituary of one Daniel L. Newman who claimed the following;

Danny retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer 4th Class. He proudly served the country he loved in Vietnam on Seal Team 3 (Class 151). During his career in the Navy he received 7 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars and 2 Silver Stars.

All three phony hunters responded that Newman was FOS. Captain Bailey responded;

If it were a simple matter of his falsely claiming to have been a SEAL, I’d say let it go, but TWO Silver Stars? Give me a break! And Class 151 graduated in June 1988. And Team 3 wasn’t commissioned until 1983.

Mary says that she’s already filed the FOIA paperwork in early March when Don Shipley first brought it to her attention so we’ll have that shortly.

So the victimless crime of Stolen Valor claims another family whose dearly departed leaves them the last memory of him as a liar.

This kind of stuff makes me ill. Not the usual disgust for the person who lied, but sympathy for the family and loved ones that have to now carry on knowing his stories were lies.

I know its allitle of the subject but I dont believe the 33rd degree mason either. Very difficult to atain, 32nd degree Scottish Rite maybe.

CWO 4th Class? I’ve heard of CWO4, but not 4th Class.

AW1 Tim

I’m a 32nd Degree Freemason (Scottish Rite). 33rd Degree, where I am, is an honorary degree granted only to those with long and dedicated service to the craft. I’ve been to several of the ceremonies, and the recipient almost without exception has at least 40 years membership, and is over 70 years of age.

Not saying it couldn’t happen with this guy, but considering everything else he has claimed, I’d be surprised if it were true.

Pretty easy to document, however, with just a few phone calls to the Grand Lodge of whatever jurisdiction he was a member of.

And of course, Home of Heroes lists no Navy personnel with his last name having received a Silver Star from Korea through Kosovo.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

BUD/S Class 151. In the very late 1980’s. Dies at 64 … ah don’t think so. Sh*t … this guy died at the young age of 64 because he was rotten to the core and his blood was ice cold.

Beretverde

Fuck him. Another grave to piss on.

7 PH’s?
Sounds painful.
Was he standing to close to John Kerry?

El Marco

FOS POS…and now your family knows you’re a liar.

Hondo

He’s being buried at sea, Beretverde. That might prove difficult. (smile)

In all seriousness, I have no sympathy for this guy, nor does he need any now. But I do feel for his family – who will shortly have to confront the fact that he appears to have been nothing but a damned liar who profited by stealing the reputations of far better men than he.

I’m not an expert Navy historian but I do not believe SEAL Team 3 ever operated in Vietnam. Maybe one of our SEAL correspondents may comment.

If I am correct it is just another lie to add to this sad tale. Another legacy of lies his poor family will have to deal with.

malclave

I guess they ran out of room, and couldn’t include the fact that he was a 20th level Wizard.
