“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”

| November 17, 2011

I’ll add to Santayana’s much quoted aphorism: Or they must bend over and learn to enjoy  the love.

This issue has been cussed and discussed here at TAH and elsewhere, but Ollie North puts it all together quite nicely.

The Next War

It is an unalterable fact of human nature that the perception of weakness invites aggression. For us, it has been that way since the founding of the republic. We disarmed after the American Revolution. That’s how we ended up with the War of 1812.

Take the time to read the whole thing.

Just as an additional note, it seems most politicians can’t or won’t learn from history, because they are usually not the ones to go to war. There are only a small number of veterans in Congress, and remarkably even some of them are willing to slash and burn defense budgets.

And when the next war comes-all those that were in favor of cutting defense; will showboat for the cameras about how tragic it is that military members have to pay for their own armor.
