Secret awards for SEALs?

| May 12, 2011

The Rumor Doctor, Jeff Schogol, who TSO and I met over breakfast at the Milblog Conference, by the way, investigates whether it’s possible that the members of SEAL Team6 who took out Usama bin Laden last weekend will get secret awards for the successful conclusion of their intrepid mission.

That’s what the Associated Press speculated in a recent story; however, an alert reader told The Rumor Doctor that in his 23-year career in the Army, he’s never heard of a secret award, prompting The Doctor to peer into the dark.

So go read the rest.

I heard the SEALS were going to give Obama a very special patch in recognition of his legacy of unwaivering support for JSOC.

2549

Why wouldn’t they get a PUC with the specifics redacted? That’s the way it used to be. Coming from a Cold War Submariner perspective.

Concur, 2549–a lot of my awards read, “On a mission of vital national importance” and that’s it. IIRC, I thought one of the SEALs who was awarded a Navy Cross in Mazar-al Sharif (?) in 2001 had his name redacted from the public record of his award for a while.

Something like that. Usually some pablum about “operations of operational/strategic significance” on both the awards and evals. Very generic for the most part. I haven’t a clue if there is some secret award citation but I would guess not.

What I want to know is; Where is my “secret award” for scrubbing and waxing barracks floors? I know it was of strategic significance…..

Hey streetsweeper, any chance you would share some of your military floor waxing secrets? I do floors for a living, and I have heard something about towels for super shine. Any help appreciated, thanks.
