NG troops to deploy to border

| July 19, 2010

The USAToday is reporting that National Guard troops will begin arriving on the Arizona to “stem the flow of illegal immigrants”. They don’t mention which way the flow will be stemmed, though. I suspect it’d be more advantageous for this administration to keep the illegals here rather than let them return to their homes.

And I guess a whole bunch of new assets are forthcoming from the Homeland Security Department;

Napolitano announced that hundreds of additional Border Patrol agents and customs officers are being deployed to prowl the Arizona outback and operate inspection stations. She said Immigration and Customs Enforcement will open a new office in Ajo. And the Department of Homeland Security is sending a new team to Douglas.

“We are also reassigning major technology assets, including mobile surveillance systems, thermal-imaging binocular units, and trucks equipped with detection scopes, as well as observation and utility aircraft,” Napolitano said in a guest column in Monday’s Arizona Republic.

A government official, who declined to be named because he was not authorized to divulge details, said the secretary is assigning more than 300 Border Patrol agents and port inspectors to the Tucson Sector. In addition, 100 ICE personnel will be added statewide.

See, this is what I’ve been wondering; where have these federal agents been this whole time that they can be torn away from their current jobs and be sent to Arizona? Were they all just standing around the water cooler waiting for the call? Ya know the call announcing there is a problem that must be solved immediately? A problem someone just noticed a minute ago?

And what’s being sent is between one half, and one third of what’s needed.
Infuriating.

Are they armed? Do they have an ROE that makes them targets? Are they trained for the job? Are they units that would be capable of doing the job?

OR,

Are they unarmed, restricted to just reporting to the Border Patrols, a grab-bag of MOSs and a mish-mash of units not deployable to Afghanistan or Iraq?

The 487th Laundry Services Battalion comes to mind.

Between the Border Patrol, Homeland Security, the Nat’l Guard, and the various Arizona LEOs…the only other “agency” that needs to go there is CNN.
That’ll be to catch the action the first time they all meet in the middle over some illegals in the process of immigrating.
The fireworks should be fairly spectacular.
God, what an unholy dogpile.

My guess is a simple one.
Did you read the news article this weekend about the Arizonan neo-Nazi who has begun patrolling the border with his mates?
Not to condone any sort of racist stuff, but have you noticed that only after private citizens begin taking action, does the government momentarily step back from the Obama circle jerk and DO something?

Cannoneer No. 4

The Propaganda of the Deed by Undocumented Civilian Irregular Border Patrol Auxiliaries drove Obamao & Big Sis to make an ostentatious display of new found give a shit. They hate hearing illegal aliens called Undocumented Democrats.

Old Trooper

They have all this fancy equipment that they are bragging about, however, they don’t say what they are going to do with the intel they get from looking through those thermal imaging binoculars and mobile snooping systems. If they are just gonna watch them without capturing them and releasing them back on their side of the border, then it’s a waste of time and money.

Old Tanker

It’s a big show to say they are doing something and that the Arizona law is no longer needed, nuttin’ but boot polish…

1200 NG troops are a drop in the bucket when considering how many state and local cops are in the immediate border vicinity, to say nothing of Border Patrol and ICE agents. Sorry, but until some employers start doing some HARD time for employing illegals and companies start scratching a couple of commas on that check for the fine, then all the touchy-feely bullshit in the world ain’t gonna help. The feds have to control the border area, but the states have to also make sure they don’t get anywhere near public assistance, schools, jobs, etc. When they find out there’s nothing there for them, they move on–or back home.

seadog

One can only hope that some of the NG troops are trained to take out the observation posts that were in the news a few weeks ago.

Or maybe a MOAB for “training purposes”?

1200 troops, means at least 400 lost to logistics, another 100 for transpo, and no officer will walk the fenceline. Leaves about 300 to actually man any checkpoint or patrol…..for 2200 miles of border.

nice.

I was in Arizona in 2006 for two weeks of Border Patrol. Had a great time. We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Phoenix the first week, there was a free bar after 5pm on top, and plenty of females. The first week was training, the second on duty. We were armed, had plenty of ammo, and our guys dont mind shooting, trust me. We’re in Afghanistan right now. Problem was, the Mexicans knew right where we were, and just went around. We were close enough to the border to see the white stone border markers set in the hills a mile or from our position. Had a great time, played a lot of cards, but the only Mexicans we saw were the ones working at the local restaraunts.

BTW, no one walked the fenceline when we were there. We observed the border from a mile away, on hilltops, which gave us room to manuever if a drug team on the way back home stumbled onto our positions, we wouldnt have our backs to the border, and our officers were out there with us. Not all NG troops are laundry battalions. Most of us take our jobs pretty seriously.

Old Tanker, you missed it on this one. It is not “Boot Polish”, it is pure “Turd Polish”.
Since we now have troops on patrol in Afghanistan without a round in the chamber, we can be assured that these troops won’t be doing any serious interdiction. Most likely their heavy weapons will be a clipboard and a Bic pen.
We’ve given up on 80+ miles of width of a National Park, Gummint is aware that Meskin Nationals have set up lookout posts in the US, where they report to the couriers, and are supplied regularly with water, food, etc.
1200 troops? 12,000 armed troops would be much better.
Serve notice on Meskin TV, US Border TV, Meskin newspapers that this border is ours, and that we will do great harm to any sumbitch or sumbitchette who attempts to invade our country.
How many US Citizens in Maricopa County Arizona alone, have been killed by illegals running from the cops this year?
It is goooooleable, and is a group of deaths that can be laid at the feet of the US Government.
I am no fan of Obummer, but this is not his baby to rock. It is all federally elected officials, who have not done any thing about enforcing existing laws,(at 230plus years old, there are laws on the books to cover this, aren’t there?).
Perhaps the greatest thorn in this deal is that Americans, (you, I, your neighbor), who don’t live right on the border, think that it doesn’t affect them. Ask the folks in Hazelton Penna, or the folks around Wimauma, Fl, to name a couple of places, if they are affected by illegals.
Either we have requirements for immigration or we don’t.
My biggest selling non-military design is:

Selling in more states than just Arizona. Some Americans “get it”.

Just one big political joke. Very sad. Texas gets 250 of these puppies. WTF.
