Phony SEAL gets a year of snorkeling
I wrote about Thomas Barnhart back in January when he finally admitted after 40 years that he isn’t really a SEAL According to the Navy Times, he earned himself a year in the hoosegow;
A retired Coast Guard chief warrant officer 2 who falsely claimed to be a decorated and combat-hardened SEAL was sentenced to a year in prison Thursday and ordered to repay $11,098 in veterans’ benefits he fraudulently received.
Of course it was our buddies at POW Net who busted him.
The case against him began when Mary Schantag of the POW Network got wind of the bogus claims. Her investigation led to the Virginia state attorney’s office looking into the matter.
On Jan. 25, 2008, Barnhart admitted his DD 214 was altered, and that he was neither a SEAL nor a combat veteran. By that time, Barnhart had received $13,923 for his fraudulent PTSD claim.

Damn, what da f*ck! Why the hell do these fake dude claim sh*t so outrageous (like a CMH with cluster for a secret mission invading Canada or some crap) it’s obvious. How ’bout “I was f*cking around and accidentally blew up some sh*t we’re supposed to have zapped if we’d done the work we were supposed to and actually gone out and prepared for it, so I got a Silver Star because we didn’t want to admit we were ate the f*ck up.” Now that, even though it’s ripped right out of too many anti-war movies to name, is more like it! (Of course, it’s all in the IMAGE of the story and being a SEAL with both the Hoth and Endor Campaign Ribbons, HALOing in to assisnate Ho Chi Minh before being frozen with like Austin Powers with Walt Disney then being thawed out to catch Saddam Hussein but, since you’re on profile after being hurt killing two dozen Taliban with a grenade and two sharp sticks, you haven’t gotten Osama yet is just more sexy than anything else.)
The Master Chief from “GI Jane” would be proud of that mustache.
