Fort Bragg is back

| February 11, 2025 | 38 Comments

SecDef Hegseth ordered the renaming of Fort Liberty (Formerly Fort Bragg) back to Fort Bragg late last night. It is not being re-renamed for Braxton Bragg (the original namesake and notoriously terrible CSA general) but instead for Private First Class Roland Bragg of Maine.

PFC Bragg earned the Silver Star for bravery in action against the Germans during WWII. As a member of the 513th Parachute Infantry, of the 17th Airborne Division, during the Battle of the Bulge, Bragg was wounded in action. His Silver Star was awarded after he saved a fellow soldier’s life by stealing an enemy ambulance and using it to drive his wounded comrade 20 miles to an allied hospital in Belgium.

Thanks to 5JC for the tip.

I think this is awesome and a genius move. The demokarens won’t be able to whine and cry about this.

Something to brag about.

Is that the guy from the Rocky & Bullwinkle tv shows I used to watch when I was a kid and have the whole collection at home.

jeff LPH 3 63-66

Got me on that one Beans, I don’t remember any 1950’s
street corner vocal group harmony song with Brag in it.

NHSparky

Don’t worry–they’ll find a way, even if they have to make one up.

Amateur Historian

Yeah, that’s not surprising. Some of them are trying to rebrand wokeness and DEI as “Patriotic Pluralism” (demokaren thinking: if your against Patriotic Pluralism, then you’re against America and you’re a bunch of nazis!!!).

NHSparky

Any sympathy I had for those misguided fuckers was lost when they claimed veteran hiring was DEI.

Retired Grunt

What race and gender was PFC Bragg? Are you sure they won’t have a reason to whine and cry? Alot of people seem to whine and cry because today is Tuesday. I’m surprised people have not yet demanded we rename the months because Julius Ceaser and Augustus etc, etc, etc…. were all white imperialist who supported conquest, oppression and slavery. Never underestimate the power of groups to be butthurt.

Amateur Historian

At the time of my initial post, I wasn’t 100% sure that the d-rats wouldn’t have a reason to whine due to the timing of the post being early morning (MST) and I didn’t have my caffeine infusion yet. Now I do and agree with you. Still a genius Trump move, regardless.

There is a MOH, awardee Jackson but he is a Marine.

They should have named Hood after Roy Bienvedez. Can we at least fix that?

Amateur Historian

There might be opportunities to open new military posts with good names in Canada (I think I was wrong about Canada joining being just trolling) and Greenland. I’m still a little iffy on these two possible acquisitions, though.

Awful Cause C

They can always name Hood after the culture in Killeen, where they still have “Fort Hood Street ” btw.

Next: Ft. Benning???

Gerald L. Benning … Silver Star Medal

C’mon, SecDef …. I know you can do it!!!

Retired Grunt

I don’t know about that one. Hal Moore I truly believe was a good man and great warrior and deserving of the honor.

KoB

A good start…Now…put the Reconciliation Peace Memorial back in Arlington.

If I was a Lee-Custis family member I’d hire a moving company to take back the farm.

KoB

The original burying was done out of spite…”Mrs Lee will never want to live here again…” The Lee Family was, eventually, paid some $ for the place after Custis (?) Lee filed suit, albeit well after Marse Robert and his wife had passed, and nowhere near what it was worth. And Marse Robert DID receive a pardon, tho the paperwork was “lost”, well before Jimmuh did his thing in the 1970s. And there were at least two (2) Congressional Resolutions passed stating that Confederate Veterans were American Veterans and due all of the respect and Honors paid to Union Veterans, including Military Headstones. The JEF stopped the Headstone thing via EO. We’re (SCV) paying for them via fundraisers and donations.

TPTB forget the original reason for naming these Southern Military Installations after former Confederates and they forget what the original purpose of The Peace Monument was and how many former Union Officers (and Presidents) supported it. Taking that Headstone (which is it what it was) was grave desecration pure and simple.

My own RINO Kongress Kritter (Rep Scott Austin) led the re-naming committee that pushed all of this thru. (spits!)

Deo Vindice!

Full disclosure; not a fan of Braxton Bragg, the epitome of a political Gnrl. There were way yonder more, better Warriors from NC they could’ve named that post for back then. The end result would’ve been the same. Getting Southern Boys to enlist for the War to end all wars.

Ft. Hood could be:

John T. Hood, US Army, Silver Star Medal.

26Limabeans

Admiral Hood currently sits atop Mt. Hood.

rgr1480

Ft. Polk could be:

Legion of Merit (3), DSC, Silver Star (2)

I recall graduating from Basic at Ft. Dix in 1968 and all the
guys that got AIT orders for Polk were crying.

Ft. Gordon could be:

Gary Ivan Gordon, Medal of Honor (KIA Somalia)

TopGoz

I’m actually ok with Fort Eisenhower, especially since the Army hospital there was already named for Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Retired Grunt

I have NO problems either way, both amazing soldiers.

Devtun

If it is for MSG Gary Gordon, then it has to be linked w/ Sgt 1st Class Randy Shugart. Gordon – Shugart.

As a Navy guy, our bases are named after the city where they are located. I don’t get the whole name of the Fort, but if its good for morale and want the troopers want then I’m all for it. Since we’re in DOGE Mode, lets pick a name then etch in stone.

Fyrfighter

I’m guessing it’s because a lot of Forts were there before anything else, so there was no town to name them after.. navy boys needed taverns for their time ashore, so bases could only be in established towns.. at least that’s my thoughts..

SgtM

Whore houses for their time ashore.

Peter the Bubblehead

Actually Navy Bases were named for the closest post office to where the base was located at the time it was established. That’s why the Submarine Base in Groton, CT is named Submarine Base New London and the shipyard in Kittery, ME is Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Fyrfighter

Good to know

Prior Service (Ret)

Should be pretty easy to do. When they switched the name at my last base, everybody had to turn in all the old signage.

Never wasn’t not…

Jimbojszz

Ft Leavenworth should be changed to Camp Pelosi. Where Ms Pelosi could stay in the Schumer room for the criminally insane. Kinda of a break in period with the other lunatic left visiting for a prolonged period of time.

David

Close to fifty mill pissed away in the naming, now more in renaming. As we often said under the last administration, don’t they have more urgent things to do?

Slow Joe

Which begs the question, why didn’t the Demontards did this to begin with, changing the reason for the name rather than the name, if they cared so much?
