NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was arrested after threatening someone with a knife in a parking lot on Thursday, police said.

Police said at around 11:35 a.m., Obadiah Claud, 45, charged the victim with a knife and the victim took out his legally possessed gun to try to stop the attack.

Claud fled in his car when the victim took out the gun, police said.

Detectives found Claud’s car in West Haven and arrested him at a local business nearby.

Claud was charged with threatening in the second degree, illegal possession of a deadly weapon, and breach of peace in the second degree.

According to police, this was not a random incident and there is no threat to the public.

HOUSTON — A man is dead after Houston police said he ran away from officers onto the East Freeway and was hit by a car during a road rage investigation Saturday morning.

This happened around 8:30 a.m.

Police said officers noticed some kind of disturbance on the East Freeway feeder road and went to investigate. At some point, a man got out of a car and got into a confrontation with officers. Police said he ran from the officers down an embankment and tried to cross the freeway. As he was crossing the eastbound lanes, HPD said a car hit and killed him.

Learma Kauffman lives just above the highway embankment. She saw the police early in the morning and as the day progressed, she said the police presence grew much larger.

“My heart goes out to the family whoever the case may be,” she said.

Houston police said the speed limit is 55 miles per hour along this road and many aren’t expected to see someone run across the lanes. Police said one driver missed the man, but a second vehicle hit him.

“This is heartbreaking for everybody and is very traumatic. We send our condolences,” said HPD Assistant Chief Cantu.

The eastbound lanes of the East Freeway were shut down for hours near Lockwood after the crash. The Texas Department of Transportation reported the freeway reopened at 12:45 p.m.

The Glock 17: innovation in a simple and non-conventional (for the time) package. A lot of us will remember the “Glock 7” as “…a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn’t show up on your airport X-ray machines, and it costs more than you make here in a month!”

I avoided the Glock bandwagon for decades, preferring the contemporary Beretta 92F (John McClane’s own carry weapon when facing the terrorists). I finally bought my 17 Gen5 three years ago, then bought a 45 MOS about a year later. They’re decent shooters, and even being full-sized handguns, they’re easily concealable for some with my frame (71″, around 210).

Nowadays, nearly every manufacturer offers a polymer frame high(er) capacity pistol, with some (the original S&W Sigma) even being sued by Glock for copying too much of their design. I’ve got a few plastic pistols, from the S&W Shield EZ to the Ruger Security-9 and Security-380, to the aforementioned Glocks. Admittedly, though, I still like the weight and reassurance of an all-metal gun, which is why the Beretta 80x Cheetah has seen some holster time while the Security-380 I bought around the same time just sits tucked away in a vehicle.

My Home Training as a lad included, but was not limited to, DO NOT tug on Superman’s Cape, DO NOT pee into the wind, DO NOT take a knife to a gun fight, DO NOT argue with the PoPo, and DO NOT play in the traffic. It also included a deep appreciation for liberty and the study of history. I was further blessed to have toys made of wood and metal. I prefer my adult toys to be the same.

A not so good FGS for The Gun Bunny. Trip to the toofus doc is gonna hurt my jaw AND my wallet today.
