Bullet fired from local police was first to stop Thomas Crooks’ firing
A Pennsylvania law enforcement officer testified that it was a round from one of the local police that stopped Thomas Crooks from firing. Less than six seconds after Crooks fired his rifle, a local law enforcement officer quickly identified where the shots were coming from, and returned fire. The bullet either hit the rifle, or Crooks, stopping him from shooting. A US Secret Service sniper subsequently fired the shots that killed Crooks.

Soon afterward, when it became clear that a threat was on the roof of the AGR building, an operator with Butler County ESU exited the red barn from behind the stage where Trump was speaking and monitored the AGR building area, Lenz said. He “quickly identified” where the shots were coming from, located the shooter, and fired one round at Crooks with his rifle, “which caused the shooter to recoil and briefly fall out of sight,” the Adams Township officer testified.
“He did this less than six seconds after shots began… at a distance of approximately 110 yards,” Lenz said.
A Secret Service counter sniper then fired the fatal shot that neutralized Crooks on the roof of the AGR building, where he was perched with a direct line of sight to Trump.
The FBI previously told reporters during a press call that the Secret Service counter sniper fired the fatal round that killed Crooks approximately 15.5 seconds after Crooks began shooting. The FBI also noted at that time that the local officer who fired a round at Crooks did not hit him.
“Regarding the round fired by the local officer, we have no forensic evidence indicating that that round either struck our subject or the subject’s rifle,” FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek said in August.
The Task Force on Thursday heard testimony from three local Pennsylvania law enforcement officials, including Lenz, who provided security protection at the July 13 rally; the medical examiner who conducted Crooks’ autopsy; and a retired Secret Service agent.

MY question still is just why-da-FUCK was he able to get that close in the first place? IMHO that’s some nice 24K incompetence on the part of the USSS, and the Feebies are still stonewalling as best they can, but hey, they’ve proven themselves to be the DNC’s KGB/Stasi.
Don’t put the A Team on the Security Detail. Don’t put the B Team on the Security Detail. Assign the D(iversity) Team on the Security, and hopefully the can protect the candidate. 😉
And if, Heaven forbid, things go South, use it as learning experience for the next time. Ferdinand Marcos would be proud.
And put a woman agent known to be incompetent in charge of the whole operation. It’s almost like failure was the objective, given Iranian hitmen are hunting Trump.
I saw this in several federal agencies- hire and promote based on diversity “goals” (quotas) and ignore the lowering of standards and poor performance. During the grilling by Congress no one asked the USSS Director whether he still requires 30% female agents by 2030. They used to hire combat vets, and there are plenty out there who would love that job, but PC mandates will mean more agents like the one who ducked for cover behind Trump when the bullets began to fly. (And like the one who planned the operation and the former Director- roof too steep- locals’ fault, etc.)
Dan Bongino mentioned that the SS are hiring only college graduates instead of Combat Vets. SS in what I typed is secret service and not the Schutzstaffel. Sorry, I got the SS mixed up with the weaponized DOJ…
And many are both….
Some of them weren’t even USSS agents. They were DHS agents that had a three hour long power point class on executive protection, that didn’t even have the audio working half the time.

They could put their name on the bottom of the bullet for easier identification. I know sometimes the bullets fragment or disintegrate. But usually the bottom stays intact. Good way to claim FIRST!
This local officer’s shot hit the M-4 style collapsible butt-stock on Crook’s rifle as he was firing. That round tore out the plastic that the buffer tube collapses into. The released FBI photos clearly show that damage to the stock. Crook’s neck would likely have been hit with shrapnel and bullet fragments. It would have stopped his shooting for the second before the SS counter sniper shot him in the head.
I thought I read that the USSS stated local LE’s bullet did not strike the shooter or weapon. Maybe this big gap was from the USSS sniper?
Well obviously, that is a lie. No, that “big gap” is where the local LEO’s bullet struck the collapsible stock while Crooks was firing his eight shots. The USSS sniper shot Crooks in the head from a completely different direction and angle. It was the last shot fired and is likely what killed him. The other pic of the disassembled rifle shows the stock collapsed, but one can still see where that circled area in your pic above was blown away, exposing the aft end portion of the buffer tube.
So the Secret Service can’t afford overwatch drones?
They had the drone but didn’t know how to use it. The agent literally called the 1-800 support line right before the attack. I imagine Hack answered the phone and was explaining the limitations of Red Hat Software interoperability with Chinese drones when the shooting went down.
Don’t forget that the local police offered the free service the use of a drone and the Secret Service refused the offer
