Trump’s Arlington woes

| August 30, 2024

First off, I have to congratulate Donald Trump for appearing at Arlington on the anniversary of the Afghan airport bombing that killed 13 of our own (see thebesig’s column 8/27 for more detail.). It’s a disgrace that the President, Vice President, and Saint Weekend Warrior all failed to even mention it, much less actually go.

That being said, Trump’s party certainly has hit the news in dueling sound bites since then. Heck, he even pissed off the ARMY.

Trump and his team opted to go ahead with photos and videos with Gold Star family members, despite the objections of Arlington staff and after having been made aware of “federal laws, Army regulations and DOD policies, which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds,” the Army said.

Federal law prohibits politicking at Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photography and video collection.

OK, I see their point. The thought of a politician sitting his butt on my father’s marker and saying “re-elect MEEEE” would leave me checking the zero on any number of guns. But on the other hand, in an election year, what does a politician do that ISN’T re-election oriented? How is this enforced? Only on Republicans? If Biden or Harris DID show up at an event like this (okay, that is a pretty far-fetched “if”) and said “We support our troops” would that be considered a re-election ploy? If they used a photo taken at such an event, even if one taken in perfect silence, in a later campaign production, would that be a Hatch Act violation? A breach of the Army’s policy? Someone from the Army want to stand up and define it?

Now this all blew up because an Arlington Army employee supposedly tried to school Trump’s graveside party on appropriate decorum.

NPR reported on Tuesday that during the visit, a cemetery official tried to prevent Trump staffers from filming and photographing there, but the individual was verbally abused and shoved aside.

On Wednesday, Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita released a statement insisting that “the president and his team conducted themselves with nothing but the utmost respect and dignity for all of our service members, especially our beloved children.”

“This incident was unfortunate, and it is also unfortunate that the ANC employee and her professionalism has been unfairly attacked,” the Army statement said. “ANC is a national shrine to the honored dead of the Armed Forces, and its dedicated staff will continue to ensure public ceremonies are conducted with the dignity and respect the nation’s fallen deserve.”

Me, I keep seeing references to the employee’s being fearful of retaliation so she is not going to press charges.  There I think she is absolutely wrong – if there is any proof that someone in Trump’s party did push her aside, really commit something definable as physical force on her – they should face consequences. There is NO place for that at Arlington.

And while we are at it – the Trump party says they have verifiable, exonerating video proof (hopefully not on the same camera which held all that election tampering proof they were forever  going to produce) – okay, let’s see it.

Allegations have no weight. If either side has proof, let’s see it – or shut the heck up.

AMEN

Prior Service (Ret)

100 percent guarantee that if the libs have pics of this, they won’t show them because whatever minimal thing they showed would not live up to the rhetoric. Dems put the hype in hyperbole.

I am betting on “Army female civilian employee with TDS gets her skivvies on fire by seeing Trump in Arlington”.
I want to see evidence of all these claims.

Also if they want proof of election Tampering ask Zuckerberg. He states clearly that the FBI lied to him and told him that the Biden laptop was Russian Dis-information.

It’s only against Army policy if Trump/Republicans, do it?

Once again.

Also, no Democrats attended– nice try at distraction.

Grunt

“NPR reported”

And Grunt quit reading. Lol.

Were there any shred of truth anybody of Trump’s staff laying a finger on anybody, every badge-wearing hominid in DC would have descended on the location and rolled up Trump and his entire team.

My high school valedictorian is a higher up at NPR.

Conceited prick then, apparently still so now. He didn’t make a class reunion and sent words he expected one of the underlings (all of us, really..) to read at the event. No one did.

Fuck NPR.

Federal law is wrong on this, as it is on so many 1st amendment free speech, 2nd amendment, 4th amendment, and 8th amendment protections…Arlington is a taxpayer funded public place…as such it should be available for photographs whether anyone like the reasons for those photographs or not….

If I go there as a private citizen and photograph those markers and then make comments about why as a nation do we continue to plant our young people there in pointless wars that commentary is covered under the simple words SHALL MAKE NO LAW….people like to argue that those words don’t mean what they mean and that’s certainly their right under that amendment…but even a child understands what “SHALL MAKE NO” means…it doesn’t mean some, it doesn’t mean reasonable, it doesn’t mean except for “abc” reasons…

A free society is not one that hides those it kills as part of the exercise of government foreign policy from the politicians seeking to govern, well not unless everyone knows the actual reasons we keep planting our young in the ground there are of a dubious and deceitful nature….we spent 20 years getting some of our best young people killed to replace the Taliban with a better armed version of the Taliban, under any metric that is a massive failure of foreign policy…and photographing where those dead lie and using it in a campaign to either honor them or question why they are dead seems all part of the “tumult of liberty” that Jefferson spoke about.

We have become far too used to the infringements upon our rights in this country, so much so we accept things we should not…a free society is no longer what we are at so many levels.

Regarding whether anyone was actually “assaulted” at the cemetery I think that’s a definition that has become, like everything else in this nation, somewhat diluted by the soft cowards that run everything in our nation…

“We have become far too used to the infringements upon our rights in this country”

And there you have it in plain simple English.

I thought that removing The Peace and Reconciliation Monument from ANC was going to bring peace and reconciliation. I guess not.

I wasn’t there so I don’t know exactly what happened. I do know that NPR reports what they want and how they want to report it. I also know that if DJT came up with a cure for cancer he would be pounced upon for putting doctors out of work.

I have same feelings for Dan Rather that TDS moonbats have for Trump.

If anyone got “ruffed up” even a wee bit it would likely be the result of encroaching on SSA’s area of responsibility.

I wonder if John “Jane” Fonda-Kerry will rush to the aid and defense of the aggrieved VICTIM employee. You don’t suppose that “other duties as described” might include engaging with civil Americans on public Property, would you?

Weren’t there some guys near by with M1 Garands? The Honor Guards are probably better trained than the GS authorita!

Old tanker

Another news story about it showed a photo of biden at Arlington, no family of deceased troops present and the photo was supposedly used in his previous campaign. Methinks the staff doth protest too much.

Additionally, why would an employee place themselves inside the “personal space” of a staffer to intentionally block them? Seems to me the professional thing to do is to make the reminder regarding politicking and not interfere with the family of the deceased who invited Trump to their family member’s gravesite.

Had trump corralled the family for the purpose of a photo op I can see the objection being valid. If the family invites him and asks for a picture is that politicking?

OAM

I am the first to say there are no R’s or D’s on headstones, on military uniforms, or on the Gold Star Lapel pins. And yet…

What is first, foremost, last, and occupying every position in between is the families invited Trump to be there and requested pictures with Trump. They believe if he had been President, their kids would not have died in that way. They believe if he becomes President again, there will finally be some answers and accountability for how their children’s lives were wasted. They have been lied to and lied about by the current Administration and were disrespected at Dover.

Then, their children’s deaths were ignored by the sitting President in his only Presidential debate. And no one in his administration apologized for that, or for any of it. To add insult to injury, some civil SERVANT tried to deny them this moment of recognition of their children’s deaths. As for the NPR story, it is an anonymous source and an unnamed employee. IOW -never happened.

When I heard that doddering, lying, grifter who had 5 deferments for service claim no soldiers died during his administration, I literally screamed. I knew too many stupid people would repeat and believe it. I screamed in outrage and heartbreak for the families of the 13 from Abbey Gate, the 3 killed in Jordan by Iranian-made missiles, and the 2 Navy seals lost at sea attempting to board a ship filled with Iranian weapons bound for Yemen.

The blood of those 18 Americans is on the hands of Biden, Harris – who cackled when asked for comment – Austin, Milley and all those willingly stupid enough to believe anything they and their PR firm, aka, the legacy media say. Because of their unjustified, manufactured hatred of Trump.

Trump is many negative things but he is absolutely, solidly behind our military and Gold Star families.
I’m loaded for bear on this one. But I could switch out for buckshot to take out a syphilitic seagull.

To me, the main point is that Trump took the time to go there and even if a one purpose was political, we all know that Trump loves this country and has the ultimate respect for active-duty service men and woman and all veterans, especially Gold Star Moms. One could argue that Heals Up and Tampon Timmie did not show up because it might appear political considering that they are running for the Presidency, but what is Biden’s excuse? He thought it was far more important to go to the beach. He respects Gold Star Moms that much, huh?

Blaster

Whoa there MARINE!

You have got to Know that FJB has nothing but respect for the US Military right? He has one son that served honorably as a respected Naval officer and another that died in Iraq while earning a “Bronze Star Medal for conspicuous valor”(I heard FJB say that once in a speech). Com’on man!!

Actually, I threw up in my mouth a little just typing that.

Skivvy Stacker

Mr Trump was INVITED THERE by the families of the military members who’s graves he visited. They WANTED HIM THERE.
Remember this was on the third anniversary of the Run From Afghanistan.
Where was Cotton Eye Joe? On vacation.
Where was Kameltoe Hairsuit? Giving a pre-packaged “interview” to CNN. Neither of them even made mention of the 13 men and women who were killed under their command in 2021.
