Donald Trump’s iconic photo ‘fact checked’

| July 30, 2024

Facebook flagged the iconic photo of Donald Trump’s fist in the air while surrounded by agents as “altered”. According to Facebook/Meta, independent fact-checkers reviewed a similar photo and saw that it was altered in a way that could mislead people. Dani Lever, Meta Public Affairs Director, explained that this labeling was done in error. The system used to flag such content apparently was not able to differentiate between the actual picture and the altered one, thus the mislabeling as “altered”.

From Fox Business:

The altered image Lever referenced featured the Secret Service members surrounding Trump smiling. USA Today and AFP United States previously fact-checked the images as “altered,” though it confirmed the accuracy of the original image.

“None of the agents in the original image are smiling as they surround Trump, who has blood on his face and his right arm in the air. The image — which was captured by Associated Press photographer Evan Vucci and distributed by the AP — appeared with coverage of the shooting by CNN, The Atlantic, Business Insider and many other legitimate news outlets,” USA Today explained.

USA Today’s fact-check on the altered photo was used as a “third-party fact-checker” when Facebook corrected the photo.

Backlash against Meta and Facebook come as concerns over Big Tech companies taking part in election manipulation to help Democrats. On Monday, Google users were surprised to find the website’s autocomplete feature omitting references to the July 13 assassination attempt.

Instead, it recommended other search results, such as the failed assassination of Ronald Reagan. The keywords “Trump assassination attempt” also did not offer any additional results.

A Google spokesperson later told FOX Business that there was no “manual action taken on these predictions.”

“Our systems have protections against Autocomplete predictions associated with political violence, which were working as intended prior to this horrific event occurring,” the spokesperson wrote. “We’re working on improvements to ensure our systems are more up to date.”

Screw facebook
The reason why I deleted my account years ago

FuzeVT

I was a captain in 2007 when I got my FB account. Within a week, I got my a friend request from a female corporal. I deleted the account that day and haven’t looked back.

But you didn’t tell us how it went with the corporal?

I would delete it but it is how I do share with family and also conduct survailance about happenings. 😉
NOW, I am leaning more towards X but only because others are being pushed off FB and also I’m on Truth Social.
HOWEVER, that being said, the best place for information is TAH!! YEAH BABY!!! And I also recently became a part owner of Newsmax, so we’ll see how THAT goes. 😀
Yeah, I sponge info and I can’t help myself and I’m not ready to find a box canyon out in the wilderness or a little shack up in a hollar…..yet….but it WOULD be a nice getaway so if anyone knows a place like that…away from the central mid atlantic DMV corridor….maybe due west in the shadows of Appalachia. I reckin’ there’s not good app to find soething like that. One can dream.

You should have been looking 8-10 years ago.

Now that the exodus from the blue zones of doom has been happening for several years real estate prices are higher than a cats back.

KoB

Alaska Bob may sublet you some space in “Kelly’s” Box Canyon. Get it fumigated before you move in.

Check Realtor.com and Zillow.com for an area you may be interested in. The websites will even break it down my size, price, demographics, and so on. And RGR 4-78 is spot on in re pricing and availability. Got a Lady Friend that looks at Real Estate Nationwide for a hobby. Metro and urban area prices are dropping. Rural is climbing and the more desirable areas are having bidding wars. Location, location, location.

Phuque Fakebook. TAH is my “Social Media” source.

Army-Air Force Guy

“TAH is my ‘Social Media’ source.” Amen and Amen! I only come here and Foxnews.com for my news.

Odie

Farmer friend goes to farm auctions/ land sales etc looking for deals. He came across a land auction, 250 acres, one location not broken up some here, some over there, but 1 plot of land. No breaking it up, you bought it all or nothing. Flat, black, well drained field went for 40k per acre. Frikken insane price.

KoB

Be interesting to know who the final bidder was. And what their plan for it is. Imma gonna go out on a limb here and say the purchaser either “prefers to remain anonymous” or is a multi layered LLC for the local tax record. Hmmm..Average of 192 bushels of corn per acre in Illy Noise @ average $122 USD per bushel. Soybeans is 60 bushels per acre @ $12 USD per bushel. Didn’t do a deep dive to see what it would cost to plant, grow, harvest, and market the product, but the big corporate ConAgra/ADM doods would average it out. Gates is buying up farmland all over the country right now.

May even become a McMansion subdivision. Pity.

Odie

It’s too far away from any town or city to support a mcmansion type subdivision and too far off the beaten path to be interesting to those that can afford those type homes. My thoughts are a corporate type farm operation bought it.

Another fine example of how Farcebook is run by diehard commies. I wish they let us look at who has blocked us, I’d look at that list like I look at the number of times I’ve been suspended, which I look at like how a Jock does at his trophies!

Speaking of elections, I’m watching the SHIT going down in Venezuela. (Are you? Is TAH gong to post about it? Because…)

Might that be a template for the coming November elections here in America?
We’re watching.
We may have to shoot our way out as KoB has said. I’d hate for thast to happen here but maybe a semi-peaceful Autumn of 2024 is just what the Right needs to go. Purge time??

I had to have this conversation the other day……
About 40% of Americans say they or someone in their household owns a gun, and 22% of individuals (about 72 million people) report owning a gun,….according to a 2018 report from the Switzerland-based Small Arms Survey. The SAS estimates that American civilians own 393 million guns. (The number I read after that estimate for 2024 was bumped up after the pandemic to about 466 million) Pew says (obviously) the greatest surge in the last 15 years was in 2020….In 2020, there was a surge in gun purchases due to uncertainty caused by the pandemic, national social and political unrest, and economic instability.

So with the 466 figure and if my maths isn’t wrong, currently, about 333 million people int he US own 466 million firearms or 1.39 or 139 per 100 up from about 120 previously.

Somebody’s preparing, right KoB ??

https://www.foxnews.com/world/venezuelas-maduro-faces-political-meltdown-rivals-claim-election-fraud-proof-police-crackdown-protests

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

What’s that meme/bumper sticker/T-shirt that’s been making the rounds?
“With 400 million guns, and “X” trillion rounds of ammunition, if gun owners were the problem, you’d know it by now”

And as I’ve also read in other sites, “the only way out is through”.

Prepare, brothers and sisters, prepare.

rgr769

That figure also undoubtedly does not include the millions of firearms that were manufactured before 1899. Those guns are mostly functional and can be fired with the correct ammunition. They are not subject to the NFA as they are not “firearms” under its definitions. I own several of them that I have used in Cowboy Action Shooting.

ChipNASA

Fail point and I didn’t even include one other area, unregistered/illegal gins ini america. now there’s no federal official registration but they can track sales of legal guns (like I said, about 466 milion because of the surge in the last year/or post 2020) but how many ghost guns, untraced sold assembled from parts, type of firearms are there out there? Thousands? MILLIONS?
My guess would be conservatively, hundreds of thousands with the newer technology and parting and printing etc. 500 million?

KoB

Prepared…

Don’t forget there are millions of guns that have changed hands in private sales multiple times, including those stolen and sold to criminals and non-criminals in private sales. The feds and most states have no record of who presently possesses them. Many of us have guns we purchased in private sales forty or more years ago. I still have a .22 Colt revolver I received as a Christmas present in 1961, when I was a teenager.

The beloved Mauser C96. I have one of those, as well. It is the most accurate semi-auto pistol I have ever owned. Unfortunately, most were made after 1898.

Was never on facebook, and the only site I am on is this one.
We around the same age and growing up in the 1950’s, we had dial phones and TV sets, no computers and cell phones. Now with Computers, cell phones and these social media sites, a lot of kids growing up now are messed up plus the school indoctrination by the socialist teachers doesnt help either. With kids being bullied in schools, kids are taking the pipe and some go on shooting sprees. When I was a kid, I didn’t get along with one of the kids in public school and the word went out for a fight behind the Jewish American war Veterins building and I got my butt kicked. Fight was over and I shook his hand and were friends after that. Get rid of social media sites and cell phones and people will start talking to each again instead of sitting in a restaurant and each member are on a cell phone instead of talking to each other as a family. End of Rant.

Me neither. Don’t have Facebook. Gen X here. Saw it, didn’t want it. Just use teh smartphone to call people and take pictures.

By the early ’80s, though we had stuff like the ’50s but more modern, things had changed. The social pathologies let loose by the ’60s were a hoot. A bully attacked me on the first day of 4th Grade and I beat his ass with a stick. No love lost there.

Shake hands and be friends? No. Sexual imposition and other destructive dirtbag behavior made that impossible. “When we compromise everybody wins” folk were out of touch.

Character, integrity and doing the right thing when no one was looking really saved they day– being tight with folk who shared your strength and standards kicked ass and made life better.

Well, I guess Zuckerberg and his minions can do what they want with their toy. However, I was watching it, as it happened, and saw Trump raise his fist in the air, and say/yell -what I thought at the time- was another word that starts with F.

rgr769

I note that FakeBook also has an Artificial Intelligence (AI) function that when queried about the assassination attempt on Trump claims no such event ever happened. In addition, Google searchs for the Trump assassination attempt bring up every assassination attempt in the past 200 years except for the one against Trump. They may have corrected their fake news algorithm by now, but I saw it. Search for “assassination of tr” before one could type “ump” immediately brought up the attempt on T. Roosevelt.

Blaster

It blows my mind that there are actually people out there that watched it happen on TV, and will believe the media that it didn’t happen. They won’t believe their own eyes and minds.!

Which is why Gavin Newsom wants to make it illegal.

Agreed.

I believe that maybe, just maybe, the pendulum has reached peak crazy and is starting to swing back.

Even a year ago, you wouldn’t have FB and national media outlets acknowledging the error and making corrections.

The pressure is working.

Odie

The pendulum is swinging back. Love, loathe or hate him, Trump did manage to pull the curtain back to expose some of the inner workings of our government. And they are big mad at being partially exposed, and getting more exposed as time goes on.

Sailorcurt

Isn’t it funny how all of these “errors”….every.single.one…serve to reinforce the leftist narrative?

Strange how that happens.

Deckie

Remember the first time Trump used the term “fake news,” how everyone rolled their eyes and laughed and laughed and LAUGHED at the ridiculousness of the claim? “What does that even mean?” they asked…

Now the left is deleting old media posts that paint Kamala in a bad light (as if we need help seeing that for ourselves) and attempting to revise history (yet again) or “fact checking” the facts we already see plain as day (again… revising history) and it’s all supposed to be hunky dorey?

They prove him right at every turn — fucking imbeciles.

The idea that Fakebook, Google or the MSM “fact checks” anything is laughable.

And they wonder why they’re not trusted.

Not buying a word of that. Just more of their intentional propaganda/disinformation campaign.
