French President Emmanuel Macron sticks with the idea of sending troops to Ukraine

Emmanuel Macron continues to entertain the idea of sending French troops to Ukraine. In an interview, he stated that he was not ruling anything out given the actions taken by Vladimir Putin and by Russia. He described Russia as a power of regional destabilization and declared that Russia cannot win in Ukraine.

From Breitbart:

French President Emmanuel Macron restated a previous commitment of making troops available for Ukraine, using an interview published Thursday to detail the issue would “legitimately” arise if Russia broke through Ukrainian front lines and Kyiv made such a request.

The Economist magazine said Macron gave the interview after delivering a keynote speech last week where he declared that Europe is “mortal” and could “die” partly due to the threat posed by Russian aggression after its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

“I’m not ruling anything out, because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out,” said Macron when asked if he stood by comments earlier this year not excluding the sending of Western troops that sent shockwaves around Europe.

Some analysts speculate Russia could be on the verge of launching a major new offensive in Ukraine, AFP reports.

Macron said “if Russia decided to go further, we will in any case all have to ask ourselves this question” of sending troops, describing his refusal to rule out such a move as a “strategic wake-up call for my counterparts.”

Better than fighting in France like the last two big wars.

Glad to see that worries of a WWIII don’t phase some politicians. That  “strategic wake-up call for my counterparts.” says it all.

If France’s “counterparts” answered The Call, that could conceivably include other European nations and perhaps the US. Russia has its sphere of influence, but China is the nation that would be the most powerful potential ally. That wouldn’t be all, though, as I could envision more regional powerhouses like North Korea and Iran being emboldened to act out.

Potentially, a WWIII scenario would see relatively powerful Western states taking on a handful of powerful former Comblock states (mainly Russia and some former Soviet Republics as well as China). Auxiliary states would be distractors at the least, threatening less-powerful Western allies and attacking targets of opportunity.

I’m going off of passion mixed with a very slight bit of knowledge here but given the fact that our military is struggling–be it with recruiting, senior leadership, equipment (ships and aircraft come to mind), or otherwise–could we be expected to be the Great Saviors we were in WWI and WWII? I’m being hyperbolic, of course, but American intervention in the First World War was decisive, while our participation in the Second World War saw us fighting in two theaters while being one of the few (the only?) nations not to be directly threatened on our soil.

The youth of today have been trained by Tik-Tok to support China and Hamas. They have no interest in helping out racist oligarchs. They would much rather work for racist totalitarian dictators.

As Homer says…. Ah the ironing….

You first Macron. You can take Biden and the other European leaders with you to serve on the front lines. The next set of “volunteers” can be all the Congress critters and European weenies who keep funding this war with taxpayer funds.

Oh and their children too.

Dan

So will France be bringing their own white flags over or will Ukraine provide them?

5JC

Say what you will about the French, but the Ukes have fought one of the largest countries on Earth to a standstill. Sure, they had a lot of help with resourcing but Russia is 25 times their size and three times their population.

Blaster

I might be wrong, but I believe he was making a swipe at France not Ukraine.

I also believe that this war could have already ended, if not for so many politicians (on both sides of the Atlantic) making $$$ off of it. Eisenhower was right when he prophesied about the military industrial complex. I am a defense contractor and I make my living off of it, but it’s still true.

5JC

Oh come on, it didn’t exactly start with Eisenhower. Benjamin Franklin was a war profiteer.

Blaster

Not what I meant. Eisenhower predicted that the MIC and our politicians would profit from war and we (Americans) need to beware of it. Now, we send $Bs to Ukraine, their corrupt politicians steal some of it then they buy stuff from the American Military Industrial Complex, that most of our politicians own stock in.

Still not new. The modern guys are amateurs. Check out these professionals from the civil War.

Blaster

My point is still that Eisenhower predicted to beware of it. He wasn’t a profiteer of it.

And I don’t care who is better at it. It pisses me off that they are stealing my tax dollars to put in their bank accounts and then want us to pay more. D’s and R’s. The swamp is real and they keep wanting more. The Ukrainian war is just a convenient excuse to line their pockets

timactual

Why do you think Macron is so bold? There are several countries, including Ukraine, between France and Russia.

Must I post this again lol?

I used to think that until I read Hell In a Very Small Place, then read up on the Foreign Legion.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

I wonder how much the ‘ Foreign ‘ has more to do with that.
They were full of Waffle SS dudes at least through Dien Bien Phu

timactual

Yeah, Foreign Legion.

To be fair, though, given the quality of French leadership I wouldn’t fight very hard, either.

MustangCPT

France doesn’t have a good track record fighting in that region. And Napoleon was a FAR more capable leader than Macron and his crew. 🤣

AW1Ed

I lost track, is France a NATO member now or not?

Blaster

With war going on in Their back yard, I doubt it. They are pretty brave during peaceful times.

I fought alongside the 7th FFL in 91, they fell back and almost caused a fratricide incident. Luckily our leaders were paying attention and didn’t pull the trigger.

timactual

Yes. They left in 1966 and rejoined (in 2009?) after the USSR collapsed

Why is it that Europe in general is fucked up as a football bat?
