Going off of memory, the M1 Carbine is why we get 16″ barrels for rifles, while shotguns are still required to be 18″ (26″ total length for both). In the ’60s, when vast quantities of M1 Carbines were becoming surplus, the Feds realized that the 17.75″ barrels didn’t meet the 18″ minimum and decided that a decent payday was better than keeping the dumb minimum barrel length. So, we can now own 16″+ barreled rifles. Or we can just pay the $5 or $200 for our AOWs or SBRs.

The original act specified 18″ for both RF and CF rifles. In 1936 RF makers pointed out that many of their rifles had barrels shorter than 18″ and it was amended to 16″ for rimfire rifles and 18″ for centerfire.
This was changed in 1968 to 16″ for both. The truth was the government had already sold hundreds of thousands of M1 Carbines to Americans starting in 1963. They could all be prosecuted as felons for possessing them, many of whom were NRA members.
Nowadays, they would have said “feature not bug”.

Ok so Tedros Adhanom meme, missing a truck load of context. First off he has doctorate degree in community health from Nottingham. It is very common for heads of hospitals and other medical administrative leaders to not be doctors. Doctors tend to not make great administrators and vice-versus I might add.
Secondly the Tigray People’s Liberation Front was indeed labeled a terrorist organization by the government of Ethiopia (only) from May 2021-March 2023. Tedros was appointed in 2017 as the head of WHO and no longer a member at the time. This was due to a civil war and had no real relation to terrorism, excepting of course that they were rebels fighting against the rise of a dictatorial state that had declared their party illegal in a power grab (I see a similar trend in our country these days, republicans are labeled terrorists by Democrats every day). The US never labeled it a terror organization.
Thirdly when he was a member I would see this is a good thing. The TPLF was an anti-Marxist-Leninist organization that helped overthrow the Communist military dictatorship Derg regime in Ethiopia that must have been using crib notes from the Khemer Rouge. They killed hundreds of thousands of people by starving them to death. In 1991 they and three other parties got rid of the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and helped write a new constitution ending communism there.

I do look at source quotes that are weirdly suspect. Now just about any quote from say FJB or Sheila Jackson Lee and a few others could be legit so with those type people there is no point. No human takes people like that seriously anyway.
