Michigan asking for volunteers to house illegal aliens and get them employed
Michigan has asked for volunteers to help integrate illegal aliens into the Michigan communities that they’re sent to. These sponsors would be required to set these individuals up in their home or in other housing, to help them find employment, to help children register for school, etc. As with the other states that have received illegal aliens, Michigan is trying to find ways to process them in without stretching their resources too thin.

Michigan is asking residents to help house migrants in their homes and help resettle them into society as the crisis at the southern border continues.
The state Department of Labor and Economic Development said volunteers who wish to participate must commit for at least 90 days as part of the refugee support program.
“Programs like the Welcome Corps advance the Office of Global Michigan’s mission to make Michigan the home for opportunity for our immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities,” said Poppy Hernandez, Global Michigan Director and Michigan’s Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer. “Expanded refugee resettlement pathways empower more Michiganders to support our state’s growing refugee population and build a more welcoming and inclusive Michigan for all.”
Sponsors would be expected to support newly arrived refugees by greeting them at the airport, securing and preparing initial housing, enrolling children in school and helping adults find employment.

I think the out-of-touch feel gooders out there have an idealized vision of these illegals being innocent and grateful families. Mami, Papa, three little wide-eyed kids, all looking for a new life as Americans wanting only to assimilate. Based on comments made since I started typing this an hour ago, it seems that not only should we house and care for these poor people, but we should pay high fees for the privilege.
We’ve seen the thanks that many of these illegals give us. Assaults, murders, trafficking, drug smuggling, and more. If I open my house to a “family”, what’s in it for me, besides the risk of getting robbed, attacked, or having a liberal court side with the “guests” should I spend part of the year at an out-of-state property? There are plenty of horror stories of squatters taking over homes, so if you invite these “guests” into yours, and you have more than one property, can a savvy attorney make the case that they have a legal claim, since you invited them to reside there rent free.

I don’t think you are in left field at all. A coworker got himself elected to the county board on both a bet and a dare from his coworkers. The guy he ran against was (still is), kind of a dick.
I asked him what new stuff the county was working on that’s not making the news, and apparently Gov Pritzker is offering my county $17M to become a sanctuary county. Even the democrats on the board threw a wrench into those spinning gears. It was soundly defeated, but he expects it to be brought up again. And again. And again. You get the idea.

Connecticut is already asking folks renting property to “consider housing a migrant family.” Happened to me when I rented a property of mine out… the realtor brought it up out of obligation (I’m guessing) before quickly saying “you do NOT want to do this… you’ll never get rid of them and become liable for whatever shit they pull in that condo.”
He told me most renters have been saying “hell no,” when asked. I was glad to hear it and hope the nicer big cities in the state hold out awhile longer… it’s not like people will learn their lesson and flip it red anyway…

The legal channels that I propose are recruiting offices at the border. Every major border city would have one. Besides, all those buses would cost money with no real benefit. My proposal would have the illegals’ labor paying all costs several times over.
And exactly how do you intend to vet these people, major? Do you have some sort of S2 crystal ball, some miracle background check supercomputer? Nope. The benefits do not outweigh the risks. Don’t even wiggle the scale.
