The US and UK strike Houthi targets in Yemen

| January 13, 2024

In response to Houthi terrorist attacks against shipping and warships in the Red Sea, the US and the UK hit back. Targets were hit with precision weapons fired from the air and from the sea. The US and UK aimed at weakening the Houthi rebels’ ability to conduct their attacks against shipping. The Houthi rebel leadership described these strikes as acts of terrorism.

From Reuters:

Witnesses confirmed explosions at military bases near airports in the capital Sanaa and Yemen’s third city Taiz, a naval base at Yemen’s main Red Sea port Hodeidah and military sites in the coastal Hajjah governorate.

“These targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel or allow hostile actors to imperil freedom of navigation,” U.S. President Joe Biden said.

The Houthis, who have controlled most of Yemen for nearly a decade, said five of their fighters had been killed in a total of 73 air strikes. They vowed to retaliate and continue their attacks on shipping, which they say are intended to support Palestinians against Israel.

“We saw a large fire from where the attack took place. It was half an hour of terror,” said Kheloud, a Sanaa resident who awoke to loud explosions from the direction of the airport.

By mid-afternoon, crowds had gathered in central Sanaa and other cities. Drone footage on the Houthis’ al-Masirah TV showed hundreds of thousands of people carrying Palestinian and Yemeni flags, chanting slogans denouncing Israel and the United States in a response to a speaker on a giant screen.

“Your strikes on Yemen are terrorism,” said Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, member of the Houthi Supreme Political Council. “The United States is the Devil.”

The commander of U.S. air operations in the Middle East, Air Force Lieutenant-General Alex Grynkewich, said 60 targets at 16 locations had been hit using more than 100 precision-guided munitions.

A U.S. official said the targets had been chosen to weaken the Houthis’ ability to attack: “We were going after very specific capability in very specific locations with precision munitions.”

So we used super expensive precision munitions to avoid accidentally killing any “innocent” people that are more than willing and ready to kill us because we’re “the devil”… got it..

I think a B52 carpet bombing run on the rally might not be received as being friendly, but it just might cut down on the willingness to be in a death to America rally.

5JC

They don’t care about that. They just want them to stop shooting missiles at oil tankers. Because they want to import expensive oil from the Middle East, instead of having cheaper oil piped directly into the country. Because of reasons….

SFC D

It’s also more cost effective. 500lb dumb iron bombs are relatively cheap.

F*ck ’em.

Skippy

Don’t forget
we also gave them a 2-4 heads up that we were going to bomb them too

KoB

If we are to be accused of being the Devil, I stay we become guilty as charged and bring some Hell Fire and Damnation down on them. I like Old tanker’s idea…carpet bombing is cheap.

Might help…

Odie

It wouldn’t hurt.

Attacking passing merchant vessels is okay, but getting bombed in return is “terrorism”… they read the Hamas/progressive playbook (just repeat it often enough and some guilible person might believe ’em).

Carpet bombing is great but if the crewmember releasing the bombs and missed the target is now on the carpet. hope he or she wasn’t NAPing at the time.

None of this happens in a vacuum.

They’ll just sweep it under the rug.

And ships still aren’t moving. Several US-flag vessels are drifting and last we heard have been hearing crickets from naval escorts and their own shoreside management. No one knows what the hell to do now.

If it’s taking 12+ days now to decide whether or not to go around the horn, that tells us they have no intention of doing so.

Houthis need some more blastin’ done to their sh*t– commercial ships getting fired upon aren’t convinced that the Houthis are done yet.

Deckie

Believe it or not there are more than a few senior officers aboard vessels in the US flag merchant fleet who believe we’re being used as bait to draw us into a wider conflict. The lack of a response from the government and management ashore is making many uneasy.

Houthis hit US-owned cargo ship with ballistic missile today:

Maybe so, but iran may be overconfident.

“Bomb them back to the Stone Age” IMO doesn’t really apply to those savages, they already live there, I say simply bomb them into confetti, one and all.

Go figure, the camel fucking terrorists see retaliation as terrorism.

Just kill ‘em all. They aren’t human beings and don’t deserve to be treated as such. Wipe them the fuck out. Erase them from history.

Where is the giant magic mushroom cloud(s) as depicted in lead photo? Yemenis may not live to see the results, but their neighbors would.

“Your strikes on Yemen are terrorism,” said Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, member of the Houthi Supreme Political Council. “The United States is the Devil.”

Well, my advice to you would be that you not stay in the same house more than two nights in a row for a while.

Odie

I wonder if he will heed your advice.

Another idea, let him float around from house to house for a week or so, whether visiting or staying, and send ordinance to each location. If someone is letting him stay, they too should be eliminated.

Graybeard

Venturing a guess that Mohammed Ali al-Houthi used the word shaitan or shaytan  Arabic شَيْطَان, romanized: šayṭān, a cognate of Hebrew: שָׂטָן, “satan”, – which means “enemy” or “adversary”, with the moral overtone of “evil” implied.

A better translation would be “The United States is the enemy.”

I don’t expect the average “journalist” to understand that, though.

Am I the only one who thinks that we should emulate General Sherman’s “March To The Sea” here? Burning farms, besieging cities, starving the population into surrender, and just basically hoisting the black flag of total war?

The news is that the demoRats are pissed off at Herr Biden for not informing them of the mission. Maybe he did that so aoc and her ilk couldn’t warn her houthi friends
